  1. Thanks guys, I appreciate it.
  2. Calling build #7 for the year done. The Revell '78 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car 1/24 scale. Paint is Tamiya TS-55 Dark Blue over their white primer. Interior colors are a custom mixture that I tried to get as close to the factory Oyster color interior option as I could. Outside of the initial failed interior paint, this was a pretty trouble free build. Everything went together well and made for a nice fun build. I will definitely get another one of these kits and actually do it as a Pace Car next time.
  3. Very nice! Great job!
  4. Great save! That's a well done rescue job!
  5. That's happened to me a couple of times so far, including my very first paint job with it. I don't want to permanently keep the top and bottom together though, as I actually have taken the top off for painting to get a better angle on the bottom and underneath the car. I then just push the top back onto the bottom part. I've just learned to push down on the stand before painting a body. Luckily my paint jobs were not ruined by having the top fall of even though they of course landed on their roofs.
  6. Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean, there's a few cars from my past I miss real bad too. If we only knew then what we know now, LOL.
  7. I keep forgetting about the option of using sleeves on stock wheels to give the larger appearance. I seem to recall a friend from high school owning some kind of Special Edition Buick from either '76 or '77 with that kind of interior option, although it has been 34 years now so the memory is a bit fuzzy. I do remember it being a real nice car with a unique interior. Looked very similar to this, even down to the color.
  8. Oh my! What a beauty! Absolutely stunning build. That Shelby Cobra has my attention also.
  9. Beautiful finish, nicely detailed engine and interior. An absolute stunner!
  10. Looks great! Great color choice and a real nice finish.
  11. That looks real nice. Those snowflakes look like the set I have my eye on from a seller on ebay. Hopefully soon I will be able to make the purchase, probably 2 sets since I have another of these kits, but hate the 2 wheel options. I'm also torn on window trim, whether to do the chrome, black, or none. The chrome looks really good on yours so that might be my answer.
  12. There are no actual production numbers available that I could find. My research actually consisted of googling 1979 Trans Am images, then clicking on the blue subheading. About 90% of the blue T/A's shown had the lt. blue interior aside from the aforementioned Nocturne Blue/Camel combo. A couple of darker blue ones had a black interior, but I really wanted to stay away from another black interior. My thoughts on the build were to do more of a restification look, as one would do with a 1:1 car changing the body color but not going into the cost and work involved in changing interior colors, rather than a straight restoration. I do recall seeing a few blue/blue T/A's here and there, though not really recently, and really liking the body color with the hood bird. With blue being my favorite color, I was finally able to do a model of one once the MPC kit was available with multiple color birds.
  13. Thanks! In doing a lot of research for this build to get an idea of color combos, I noticed that pretty much the only color interior one could get with a blue Trans Am of any shade is the light blue interior in either cloth or vinyl. Most had the cloth which is darn near impossible to replicate. The only shade of blue that I saw with a different color interior was the Nocturne Blue, which looks Teal to me, and that came with the Camel interior. In trying to stick with 1:1 color variations of interiors, the light blue was really the only choice, the problem being how to color match it.
  14. Looks great! Very nice job!
  15. I honestly hadn't spotted that difference until seeing your post, so definitely thanks for bringing that to my attention so I can try to correct it. I do have an older (probably from the 90's) unused can of dullcote that I am contemplating using, but I have to test spray it first so as to not ruin the interior if it doesn't turn out. It's currently struggling to get higher than 30 degrees where I live so it might be a bit before I can try it as I have to spray outside. If not, I will be fine with how it currently looks. And thank you, I am very pleased with how the body turned out. The Tamiya sprays really go on nicely.
  16. Pretty much what I am going for is a '79 Corvette with the '78 Pace Car kit. As far as I can tell there is no real discernible difference in the two years but I am labeling the build as a '78 simply because that is the year of the car as shown on the kit box. I love the Pace Cars but didn't really want to build it as such at this time (I will certainly look to do one in the future) as I have always liked the dark blue/oyster interior color combo so I decided to go that route for this build.
  17. Painted this one over a year ago, then put it away because I was stalled on interior color. Did bits of minor parts painting here and there and put on the decals earlier this year. Finally last week I called upon my wife to mix up a batch of the color I was after. Turns out I should have asked her a long time ago, because I think the color turned out great. I think I'm going to spray some dullcote on the seats and carpet to separate the color from the dash and console a bit and hopefully that will do the trick. Last pic is what I am aiming for.
  18. Well I mixed up a couple of batches of paint for the '78 Corvette's interior so I decided to put it back on the workbench. The carpet color is off a bit but I am very happy otherwise. I think it looks much better than my first attempt. The only problem is that my mixture is fighting me consistency wise. I'm using Model Master enamels and it's becoming thick and pasty even after mixing in some thinner already. Hopefully I can smooth it out for final touch-up because it's a bit rough right now. Also got the badge decals on. Last pic is interior of real car I was aiming for(not mine).
  19. Looks great! Nice job on the interior. Well done!
  20. Looks great! Can't go wrong with a bandit T/A.
  21. She's a beaut! That red paint is gorgeous, and I love the gator in the back seat.
  22. That's awesome!! Beautiful paint job. The Escalade front end looks like it belongs there. Bravo!!
  23. That's a very good idea and definitely worth looking into.
  24. Absolutely, reading Poseiden's Arrow currently at the time of this post. As far as where to put it when finished, I haven't thought ahead that far, LOL.
