Ollie's strike again
BlackSheep214 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I happened to be in the area of my local Ollie’s store and decided to see what they had left. Tanker trailers, all the modern Corvettes, Escalades, Camaro Concept kits, Revell Delta Dart Jet, and surprise, surprise... LaFrance Pumper fire trucks. Was debating on whether or not to grab one but decided not to. -

El Roberto... it depends on the collection on what they collect. They may think were odd as well. How many of you have a sizable model kit stash that you know you’ll never complete every single one of them? Call it “building your stash” but no matter how you slice it, you’re a collector. How many of you still have your old baseball cards from your youth? Why are you holding on to them? To pass it along to your kids? Your grandkids? Sports trading cards is a whole different hobby. I’ve still have mine going back to 1980, a small handful from the 70s. Sports memorabilia collectors are no different than model kit collectors. The difference today is the chase cards are more valuable than regular cards. I stopped collecting baseball cards years ago when the market got flooded with so many cards manufacturers and different chase cards. It’s become impossible to keep up and expensive. Collecting sports trading cards nowadays is like playing the Lottery or stock market. Every pack you open, you might get real lucky with that elusive high sought after card in the pack of cards but 99% of the time you get well, basic random cards. You may find some you need to complete a set or doubles (duplicate) cards you don’t need. As far as players cards goes, you never know who’s going to go up in value or who’s going to tank in value. -
A couple eBay purchases showed up at my mailbox these couple days. I've gone mad over Nomads....? The Alternomad is sealed, the '57 isn't plus lacking decal set. (no great loss for me since I won't need them). I'm planning on looking for the '55 and '56 Nomads soon...

Maybe so but Hereford, Texas is America’s beef capital of the world. We don’t get beef from across the great big pond. -
I have heard good things on Revell paints. Haven’t seen any in my area but am eager to try them out.

No surprise... all the rich folks in NYC can afford it. Their cheeseburgers must be made from Kobe beef. Oh yeah, Kobe beef is awesome tasting but very expensive. My local deli used to carry Kobe roast beef but no more. The distributor told them they had to buy like a case load of them if they want to continue to sell their products. They told them no way. i have bought their Kobe roast beef from the deli in the past. It’s Oh My God delicious. It’s so tender like butter. Even a quarter pound of it is expensive (around $7). Worth every morsel because I’m the only one that will eat Kobe roast beef cold cuts in my household. Lol -
I like the color combination. Well done!!

All valid points, Tom. I'm now starting to understand why some folks charge ridiculous money on these "rare, hard-to-find, and/or out-of-production" kits AND are willing to pay those crazy prices. As several pointed out... each to his own. Had to laugh over the "$50 cheeseburger" comment.... -
The biggest question is will they stock Tamiya paints once certain Testors line of paints disappear for good. I agree, that email sounded very vague and not giving out a real answer. I guess we all have to watch and wait what gets stocked over time. I hope they don't do away with model kits altogether.

You ain't kidding! I remember doing those gold pinstripe decals back in my teen years You ain't kidding! I remember doing gold trim decals on the 77 Trans Am during my teen years. It's enough to drive you insane without them twisting upside down before applying to model. The golden chicken wasn't as bad. Looks really good. I need to get myself a Trans Am kit.

Heh...I had the Hot Wheels of the Paddy Wagon. I fondly remember that kit back in my youth years.

What Are Your Top Ten Kits?
BlackSheep214 replied to doorsovdoon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ok... I’ll bite..LOL! Here are mine in no particular order I’d love to get another shot at building again from my youth years. 1 - MPC Dodge Off Road Camper with motorbike 2 - MPC Streaker Vette 3 - Great Street Machines Series kits 4 - MPC Warlock Dodge Truck 5 - MPC Smokey the Convoy Chaser and Force 440 6 - ‘77 Trans Am Blackbird (gold chrome) 7 - KISS Custom Van 8 - Monogram 1/48 scale B-52 Stratofortress Bomber (yeah this is a big bird with wingspan about 3 feet wide) 9 - Prehistoric Creatures Snap kits 10 - Famous Monsters Collection kits (Frankenstein, Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, etc... 11 - SSlasher / Red Alert ‘72 Chevelle SS 12 - 1970 1/2 Baldwin Camaro 13 - Spirit of ‘57 Gasser 14 - Monogram Vandal/Vanbulance 15 - BJ and the Bear rig Looks like my list continues beyond the Top 10 kits. As I’ve already mentioned - it’s hard to choose a Top 10 because all of those were from my youth/teen years. My guessimate is I’ve done at least 350 - 400 + kits during that span. Those I’d love to get another shot at building again. -

Ollie's strike again
BlackSheep214 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lurked in FSM forums and one poster sent the news Ollie's got kits and posted what he picked up - Civil War wagon kit. No mention on the newest stock. My guess he was too late for the party and didn't know or didn't see the no rigs, trailers, T-bird, Corvettes, Hurst Olds, etc... kits But hey he mentioned the Snark middle kit though.? -

Ain’t that the truth. Your mom was wise. I guess I just don’t understand why folks will pay ridiculous money on plastic kits. -

I know exactly that kit you speak of. Oldmodelkits website has one up for sale for $799 but is missing the service truck, figures, clear fence parts, paper mat and booklet. Not to mention that Revell released that kit in 1959. LOL! -
Wow... she’s a beauty. Well done!

Following this one... What about the doors? Were they stripped of old pain5 as well?

And how long was it listed and did he get it sold it for his asking price? My guess he didn’t get any bites on it.?
