Has anyone else noticed how dumbed-down Google searches have become? Do a search on anything... and a litany of inane questions will pop up. Most are completely irrevelant. Whoever is behind the AI revolution, making us any smarter is not the goal. -
I buy only cans of touch-up paints online. But just about anything is available on places like eBay and good online hobby shops. eBay you may find free shipping here and there. I have 2 hobby shops close by, they have Tamiya paints, some Model Master and acrylics. But have zero in aftermarket parts. The next 2 shops are 25 miles each way, they too have no aftermarket parts or very little. Some guys like hardware store paints and get god results with them. I hit up auto parts stores for VHT and Duplicolor paints.

This is why I "pin" almost everything as I go along. I have to make up location blocks, pin sub-assemblies with plastic, brass or whatever I have around. The interior, body and of course glass have to go back together the same exact way. Glass is always the wild-card and deserves a lot of attention. Sometimes it will interfere with the dash and interior tub. I have cut the joining strips off them too.

I like it a bunch. I have a Dale Jr, snap kit in the works, I'm going 90% per what is in the box. I need a few more of these. I like the Powerslide line of decals.

My 2¢.... Maybe the engraver did a mash-up of one or 3 of his kids names just to mess with us from the grave. -
The old long-tube headers were fairly symmetrical, like the Black Jacks I had in a Chevy C30. There was a ton of room to install those. I had a '66 Nova with Hedman headers, the driver-side was in 2 pieces to get around the clutch linkage.

Painting parts while on sprue
bobss396 replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I read somewhere about the practice in a modeling magazine, pre-internet. I guess it has caught on, I still see model parts/kits for sale with painted parts trees in them. There are many ways to skin a cat and most will make you puke. -
My account got frozen some years ago, I should go check it again. I just did, it looks like my account is gone. Someone I know would use it to look at... ahem... risque... photos of women without his wife knowing. She would go through his browsing history pretty often.

This is why I wind up making my own radiator tanks or even entire radiators from scratch. I save spare radiators to cut up just to make a presentable radiator. -
I bought an old glue bomb '62 Ford kit and took it apart. It was assembled many moons ago using tube glue... and lots of it. I had a set of Model Car Garage photo-etched saw blades and those made it possible. They were flexible and I never even broke one.

Painting parts while on sprue

I do the same exact thing. One guy in my club preached that every part of the model is a model itself. For example, a steering wheel has to measure up on its own, etc. It takes time, yes but pays off in the end. -

Decals make or break a stock car build. But you nailed it. I had an uncle that worked for Winston for a long time, he got "free" smokes for years, guess what killed him? -
What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
bobss396 replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I have another package I am expecting "today". From eBay via UPS, another hand-off to the USPS system. I really don't get that logic at all. It was transferred from UPS to the USPS yesterday at 1:48 PM, too late to go out for delivery. I just checked, status is the same, confidence is not high. -

I got a refund on my paint from my credit union, no word on my BBB complaint. I tried to lodge one with the USPS, but was not able to. I ordered 4 tires on Tuesday from Tire Rack, they were at my house via UPS in less than 20 hours. He also had a box of Rock Auto parts for my Belair. I'd call that stellar service. I had one instance a few years back, I had a Summit order get hijacked at a UPS facility, my car parts were GONE and in place were plastic PCV fittings, Summit made good on it. Back around 1975 when I worked for Sears while in college, we had on the crew a bunch of UPS guys. Sears was a part time gig. They openly bragged about opening up boxes and taking god things out, sending them to the address of an accomplice. -
I don't like messing with brake fluid, there are disposal concerns. By working with brake fluid for many years, I had developed an allergy to it, especially in summer. My fingers would break out in bumps. My partner at work at this time would get blood poisoning from it. This was before latex gloves were popular. NOBODY wore gloves unless they were using an air chisel.

Google's "AI Overview" is really, really stupid.

I saw a great AI image over on Instagram. It was an old salvage yard, cars from 1950 to 1960 or so, in black and white. In the middle was what looked like a scrapped flying saucer between the rows of cars. At first glance the cars looked Russian... but I realized that they were all made up. -
The delivery time from my experience is often quicker than what I get on the eBay site. I plan accordingly.

On the '60 I'm using, I opened up the grille from the back, looks more better. VCG Resins makes a '66 GMC conversion as well. -

Nice... I haven't built one since around 1970 or so... -

My 2¢ on AI... go back and watch the Terminator movie series. There was a tale on AI some years back. Amazon had 2 AI systems going, not sure if it was a beta test or what. Anyway, the 2 systems quickly created their own language and shut out everyone else. Amazon pulled the plug on those real fast. -
Nice.... those were always a challenging build, some parts were extra-fiddly. Digging the paint big time. Well done.
