Revell '30 Model A coupe w/inline 6 - final update 7/24
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks very much guys. Unfortunately due to a sad need to make a living, my building has been pretty much Friday night, Saturday, Sunday. So progress is slower than I'd like. But things are coming along and this will be getting finished with only one visit to the bench. It won't be a contest quality, but she'll look great on the shelf. The immediate plans are to plumb the remote oil filter, build the exhaust system and the intake tube on the Paxton with a cone air filter. I'll try to get a mock up shot tonight. More soon. -
I really like the personal touches on this model. It's not stuff most people would do to a model, or even think to, but that's why I like it. Nice job.

I asked the same question when I was building my drift Pacer. From what I was told, was that a dual leaf rear suspension will work if you upgrade it with traction bars (not the slapper bar style) and a panhard bar.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
Jantrix replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Very impressive stuff. -
Monogram 1/24 '79 Z-28 and the Revell IMSA Monza. I'm sorta on a hot rod kick right now, but I do have more pro-touring builds planned.

What kind of builder are you?
Jantrix replied to Mike77's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't collect. Everything in my stash is either parts or I have sufficient interest in building it. As a builder, I figure I'm an intermediate level builder. And frankly I'm content to stay there. I need to learn to air brush and polish. With everything else, I'm content with my skill level. I build what I think is cool. As far as quality, I try to build to a competitive level. I do a few local contests and do pretty well. But not always, sometimes I just build a two-footer for the shelf. Those decisions are made though before the model is even started. I don't make a mistake and then say, "The heck with it, I'll just put it on the shelf, and face that side to the wall". I plan it and stick to the plan. -
I've checked out all of your posts and I'm really quite impressed. You do excellent work. Glad to have you here.

Revell '30 Model A coupe w/inline 6 - final update 7/24
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Some work today. First off, my test spray of my Duplicolor metallic black blushed big time even when sprayed indoors in my booth. It's just too humid. However, the Modelmaster lacquer red that I put on the dash, looked great. So we do some quick thinking and decide on Testors One Coat Rootbeer Brown, as it goes nicely with the red engine and I've come up with something usual but complimentary for the roof insert. After I decide on decals, I'll be shooting the body with some flat clear for that suede look. -
Duplicating primer showing through the paint
Jantrix replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Also if primer is wearing through it's because the paint has been worn thin, so your top color should be a very light coat. A coat of dull clear will help give you consistent finish, that is, one area won't be shinier than the rest because you didn't want to sand a particular area very much. It will also keep decals from looking too shiny on your weathered model, should you choose to use them. -
Compliments on posted models
Jantrix replied to Repstock's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We have seen people here over the years get upset at being critiqued. The same has happened on other forums. Remember the debacle years ago on SA forums? So no one is comfortable giving critique on forums. Most would rather say nothing as we have seen in dozens of threads on the subject. The same goes for many of the FB pages. What I did was create a page that was created specifically where there is no question. If you post in Model Workshop, your work may be critiqued even if you do not ask for it. It is allowed and encouraged. If you don't want to be critiqued don't post. I know that that is your idea for this forum, but it hasn't turned out that way. So far we have had no issues with members getting offended or rude with their comments. These are the rules I set in place on day one. It's working just fine so far. Here's the rules folks. We've all seen critiques go bad on the forums, so lets keep this polite and tactful. Keep it constructive. There will be kids here so lets keep the language PG13. 1. Rudeness will get you booted. This applies to critics and those being critiqued. If you aren't open to hearing things you don't agree with, DO NOT POST HERE. If you can't critique without saying something sucks, we don't need you here. 2. Arguments are likely going to happen. As long as they are polite, I'll let them continue. But lets not turn it into a dogpile. If Bob and Joe are having a disagreement, joining Team Joe or Team Bob and adding to the melee will not help things. 3. As I said in the description, this is also a place to kick around ideas for future builds. Got an idea for a build but not sure what kits would help get it done? This is the place to ask. 4. This not a place to "show off" your work. We have plenty of other FB groups for that. This is a place for you to show work and be critiqued or discussed. If you want your ego stroked, this isn't the place for you. 5. I can't be here every minute, so if something does get out of hand shoot me a private message and I'll get it immediately on my Messenger phone app, and I'll take care of it. 6. I love a model contest as much as the next guy, but please do not post any ads for your clubs shows or contests. There are plenty of other model related pages for that sort of stuff. -

Guys, if anyone is interested, some months ago I started the Model Workshop on FaceBook, for the express purpose of providing a place for honest discussion and critique of our work. Everyone knows this joining up so anyone with thin skin can buzz right off. Join and contribute if you've a mind to. https://www.facebook.com/groups/962746283798179/?ref=bookmarks -
My sons and wife are playing a new phone game called Pokemon Go. This game is tied into your phones GPS and you search for pokemon and pokemon related locations using a gps map. My wife was playing it as I drove this morning. There's actually things to do as you travel, BUT once you are at 20mph plus, the game stops functioning. It can't update fast enough. Long story short, there will be people driving distracted even more now, albeit more slowly. So if you see people driving slowly or parked in unusual places, and suspect something nefarious, odds are they are just looking for pokemon. Which is altogether sad in itself.
