I think it's a good idea. Going with a single or double leaf front end?

Lets See Some Muscle Bikes (banana seat bikes)
Jantrix replied to ProStreetOnTheStrip's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Very cool. My first bike was an Iverson Roadrunner, in orange with the two piece handlebars and banana seat. Man, I loved that bike. Since I got it for my 5th birthday it was likely a 1972 or 73 model. I wish there was more info on the web about Iverson. Rumor has it that Barris did some design work for them on some models. -
Thanks very much guys.

I'm seeing a lot of brush painting. Do you not have access to spray cans?

What's YOUR opinion on "Theme" contests?
Jantrix replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love themes at contests, but to date, I've never built a model just for that one contest theme. If I have something new that fits the theme, all well and good. I might also pull out a retired contest model, but not often. -
This is gonna be great. Love the stance, the y-block, the wide whites. Very nice!

'32 Ford High-Bolster Roadster - 9-7 Update
Jantrix replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very cool. Looking forward to seeing this. -
It is leopard print decals film for use in interiors. I forgot though, that it is on a clear background and would need to be on a gold paint to really look like leopard, but I kind of liked it anyway.

Lets not forget the small block from the Revell 32's. I find it too small for a hot rod but it might be perfect for a Cobra.

Outstanding work.

Carl, Bob, Marty, thanks very much. The I6 was the plan from the get go.

Well I replaced the filter just this morning so .......................

Steve - the engine is from the AMT 51 Chevy. There are at least three kits with decent inline six cylinder engines. In hindsight, I wish I'd used the the one from the AMT '37 Chevy, it's a much nicer piece. The Paxton was a gift from a friend, from his Revell '57 Ford. Ed, Snake, that is my goal with every build. A couple notes on this kit. 1. The windshield frame mounts from the OUTSIDE. Then the windshield goes in from the inside. The instructions say otherwise but it is all lies. Lies I tell you! 2. For the channeled version, DO NOT glue the interior floor to the chassis, (it say to says in the instructions, but it's just more lies!) until your final assembly. Build the interior as a separate assembly. It is not easy to get into the body, but it would be impossible with the chassis attached. 3. Even with un-upholstered panels, the battery and gas tank can hardly be seen from the outside of the model. Unless you are opening the trunk/rumble seat, I would just save those for another build. 4. The very tiny gauge decals are not worth the hassle. They are so small the adhesive is gone in a flash. 5. The headlights are beautiful. Although I would like to meet the engineer who decided to put a mounting tab right on the top of the part, which is a chromed piece. I have a few choice words for him/her. 6. The surface of the headlight support where it meets the chassis is shaped oddly. I'm not sure what the original plan was. 7. I will very likely build at least one more of these soon. A very unusual thing for me. Glad you guys liked it!

Well I've nothing but good things to say about this kit. I've stretched the chassis 1/4 inch forward of the steering box mount. The engine is a inline six from the AMT '51 Chevy. I've added the belt and supercharger from the Revell '57 Ford kits. Lots of modification. I sanded off two leafs from the front suspension, omitted the kit shocks and added friction shocks. The rest of the kit is pretty stock.

Revell '30 Model A coupe w/inline 6 - final update 7/24
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I have been right there with you Joe. But that's all part of figuring this hobby out. You have to know your skill level, plan the build accordingly. -
Revell '30 Model A coupe w/inline 6 - final update 7/24
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in WIP: Model Cars
David, Tom, Joe, thanks very much. I appreciate the ataboys. Tom, originality is always what I'm striving for. It's hard to do in the automotive world, so it's a challenge. Joe, the photos are VERY forgiving. It's a three footer for sure. I learned a while back, that my life doesn't allow for more that 4-6 hours of bench time per week. But, until recently I was always swinging for the fences as far as build quality, so I was never finishing anything. So I've decided if I want to finish more than one/two models a year, I gotta decide how much time I want to put in each one. Some models are for the shelf, some for the contest table. It's been a difficult transition, but I'm having more fun building than I was, so it all works out. I have the day free tomorrow so I'm really hoping to get some more done. -
I'd like to thank them not just for their customer service, but for the effort they are putting into their product. To go so far as to reverse engineer parts from earlier releases (the AMT '53 pick-up comes to mind) is really going above and beyond. New molded tires with tampo printed white walls or lettering. Excellent high quality decals. Vintage box art. I mean, these guys are really thinking! And this is because they know their target demographic. The same guys who bought the original release in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

I really like this. You had a plan, stuck with it and it shows. Lots of attitude and originality. Well done sir.

Do You Have Any Kits You Will NEVER Build?
Jantrix replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No not really. I can understand collecting certain things, but collecting kits doesn't make sense to me. When I happen across a collectible kit it is traded away pretty quick for more kits I can build. -
NEW REVELL '30: Zee frame!! Zee frame!! + 2nd mockup
Jantrix replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I love where you are going with this. This is very close to my plans for my second build up of this kit. I was thinking about an injected Stude mill though. It's a long way off though. Lots to finish first. Like the first build up. -
How in the world did you accomplish those crazy wheels?

1971 Pinto Wagon Street Freak Showcar - Done!! 4-18
Jantrix replied to Impalow's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Seeing this I can't help but think that for a drag car, it would look so much better with about 3/8 of an inch removed after the rear wheel well. Just my opinion.- 172 replies

Not without modification.
