  1. I can tell you why. Because there is no worse feeling than to be ignored among people you respect or admire. I mean if Joe-14yr-old posted up his first build with orange peel and glue on the windshield and mounting tabs visible on the bumpers and NO ONE SAID ANYTHING, like as not, that would be his last model. I mean, can you imagine anything more disheartening? So because I know that feeling, I will find something I like about the model and compliment it. I will occasionally offer advice, but most often not.
  2. I have built the 1/24 Monogram '79 Z-28 BUT it was heavily modified and kitbashed. It is a simple kit. With T-Tops that don't fit all that well. The body looks great though. It can certainly be built as a very nice shelf model. You can see my WIP shots here if your are interested. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/Camaro pro-touring?sort=3&page=1
  3. Based on this. http://www.chargersourceguide.com/66_67Differences.html It looks like the differences for a scale model would be 1. Delete the fender directional indicators for '66 2. Side mirrors: '66 - "dual post" style, '67 - single post and look like the remote mirrors. 3. Hubcaps, spinners on 66, not on 67 4. Console (full in 66, split in 67) 5. Single stage master cylinder on 66, dual stage on 67 ( I don't know how physically different they would look.) That's about it.
  4. I have built both but literally decades apart. Not to mention the differences in skill level. This is the MPC, built 90's style with the engine chassis from the AMT '70 Superbee pro-street. The build is 20+ years old. Aside from the sink marks already mentioned, one thing that was an issue was the shallowness of trim and badges. It would not be fun to foil IMHO. As you can see here, I did not. I'm fairly certain it's an "axle through the engine block" kit as well. The Revell kit is - in a word - spectacular. This was built shortly after release ('01?) and it's box stock - something I've yet to do since. Great fit, everything short of the lower coolant hose is a breeze to put together. Great trim definition. In my opinion it's in the top ten best kits of all time. My only beef is that it would have cost Revell another twelve cents to add parts to make it a '66 OR '67 and they didn't think to do it.
  5. Yeah. So the next question is, do we all want to do individual threads and put the finished builds in a group thread like we did with the roadster, OR, start a Community Build Project? I'm happy to start one, but ONLY if there is significant interest in doing so.
  6. Now. The question is ......................... do I clear the bench and get to work or continue with the bobber? Is anyone going to use the skeleton door panels and NOT going to add a rolled down window pane? I'm looking forward to that. Lots of plans for these kits. The first will be simple, just an engine swap and drop the front a bit. Thanks very much for the overview Tim.
  7. Also, although the straight axle was the preferred front suspension, a budget racer might have used ball joint spacers to get the front end up a bit and run in the gasser class with the stock independent suspension. I asked about this a number of years ago. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/50041-gassers-all-straight-axle/
  8. I don't see any questions. Looks like you have the parts and the plan. What exactly do you need help with?
  9. Please ignore these silly quote boxes. I can't figure out how to delete these darned things. Anyway, look what followed me home on Saturday. Mom said I could keep it I'm pretty surprised to see the two part body.
  10. Wow. Who does this guy think he is? Barris? Roth?
  11. Is this the same animal as the others?
  12. Not out of the question but I'm looking for a vintage speed part look.
  13. I wondered about that as there was no mention of the 354 in the Cadillac motor wiki. This will help. I'm going to try to rework the headers from the AMT Double T kit, to match the port spacing.
  14. I heard on FB that they were on store shelves. Give us some unboxing photos when you get a chance. I can't wait. Paydays coming.
  15. I've got the Revell Parts Pack Cadillac 354 in a current project. I'm not thrilled with the kit headers and want some other options. I'll likely modify some other headers, but I just want to get some other thoughts on the subject. You can see what they look like here.
  16. My plans for one will use the image below as the plan, with the I6 from the AMT '51 Chevy. And some styling changes. The second one I build will be a modern take using the Phantom Vicky chassis/engine/suspension and a track racer theme.
  17. Thanks Bill, I was able to get the heads off. The benefit of using solvents. That is a very impressive piece. I'm going to just use the resin part from 'ol Crazyjim, well painted. If it doesn't do it for me, I'll think of something else. Like an old military footlocker.
  18. I don't see them either. I'll check the kit again tomorrow morning.
  19. Unboxing. The slick tires are very nicely done and two of the standard tires have a very tiny white print on one side.
  20. Yep. The PO hasn't posted though in four years. I doubt he'll see your ataboy.
  21. I think that last statement is very true. At this point just being around him and interacting is going to help a lot, but when he starts into the pre-school ages you are going to have to just suck it up and spend time with him, bored or not. Yeah, as an adult there's just so much Chutes and Ladders you can take, but ya gotta do it.
  22. I have the new release. I can take some unboxing photos if you'd like.
  23. My bobber is coming right along.
