How About Some Stalled Projects?
Jantrix replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh yeah. Lots of hangar queens. First the Puma ATRV. Mostly scratch built. '32 Ford bobber My Olds Ute '51 Chevy Allison powered '67 Charger Skinnie Minnie - I'm not really sure yet what it will be when it grows up. Plus a few that were in the works but have taken a different path and it's back to the 'ol drawing board. -
Hey guys, I've got a new idea. I'm gonna drag some kits out tomorrow and see how how everything fits. I think I'm going to combine a couple of builds that I've lost interest in and come up with something new. More soon.

I really dig the paint choices. Nicely done.

Very impressive. -
Very nicely done. But I must add though, if there was ever an opportunity to do some weathering. This was it.

Status Update: Model Cars #201

I don't disagree with anything you said there. But the future may be just as obdurate as you are. -
Status Update: Model Cars #201
Jantrix replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gregg. Like the rest of us, I'm very appreciative of what you do and sympathetic of your troubles. But maybe, it's time to go paperless? I know the old farts will hem and haw about not having their paper copy to accompany them in the can, but I think its the right time for it. Prices on tablets are getting cheaper and they are very simple to use. With the manufacturing process getting all of the $$ and you and the contributors getting squat, it's not fair to any of you. This way you cut all your production costs and the people that do the real work will get theirs. My $.02. -
Yep, and those violet eyes are so striking. A very rare mutation.

Most likely he posted originally in the wrong forum, so the mods moved it. When he returned to check it, he couldn't find it, so he reposted. -
1929 Model A 60's Custom - Now in 'Under Glass'
Jantrix replied to maltsr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bring it on. We're ready. -
Assuming I always had parts to keep her healthy, I'd have to say my 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab with the V6. She has 180K on her now and I will really be sad when it's time to put her down. I've never had a car I've liked this much. Comfortable, plenty of interior space, room for five. V6 has decent power and is a great highway car with 24mpg. Short bed but long enough.

I just got a built up one of those. Still wondering what to do with it. Yours looks pretty cool.

One of the most beautiful actresses EVER.

Yep. Great for door/trunk lines, grills etc.

Automotive (and other) toys from our childhood
Jantrix replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I had quite a few of those Elev Kneivel toys, 12" GI Joes and vehicles as well. SSP racers were always a favorite. Especially the Smash Up Derby set. -
Let's See Some Survivors!
Jantrix replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Whoops I didn't see the '81 cut off. I was 13 and none of those models survive. -
I've been listening to a lot of symphonic metal lately and Nightwish from Finland is probably one of the best. Going for 20 years now, and been through three excellent female leads. This is a favorite featuring the second lead singer Anette Olzon.

Admittedly I've yet to master the shiny paint job. I'm pretty terrified of ruining good paint with the buffing process, which I have done twice. However I did win Best Paint recently for my patina'd '49 Ford.

Question about commissioning models.
Jantrix replied to ownnddd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My advice is to look on ebay for any listing called pro-built. Some of the guys that do this are hacks but there are a few that do good work. When you see a builder that might serve your needs contact them via ebay. And see if someone will take on the job. The listings might also give you an idea of what you might pay. But bear in mind even an out-of-the-box-with-no-mods takes at the least 25 hours to build. Even if you could find a builder to work at minimum wage you are still over $200 bucks for a simple model. One with custom work will be a lot more. Good luck. -
That came out terrific. Great paint color choice.

Updated. The bed is now permanently mated to the body. Still some sanding to do. I had to fill a small gap on one bedside with some CA. Plans are for rootbeer brown and a real wood bed. I have done the mods to lower the rear suspension by 3mm. First I cut the control arms away from the rear axle. Shortened the coil springs and added blocks beneath the control arms so that everything mounts together properly. I then cut away the rear crossmember and added a new higher one. Interior has been shortened. It will be beige with leopard skin seat and door inserts. More soon.

Help w/engine modeling.
Jantrix replied to Stang Assembler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here's you spark plug locations. http://www.vintagemusclecarparts.com/pages/302crossram1.html Since the coil location cannot be stock because of the blower, wherever you want to put it would be fine. -
There is no way to repair this and have it unnoticeable without repainting. But ask yourself what is the plan for this model? Is it a shelf model, destined to live out it's life in a case? Then glue the joint as carefully as possible and finish it up. Is it a gift for someone or something you wanted to take to contest? Then you gotta fix it right.
