  1. Eric, Bob thanks very much. I'm gonna scratch the coils and as they will be nearly invisible in this chassis, no need to do much more than hold the wires. Chassis is painted. It's a Krylon color that I really like called Oiled Bronze. In still trying to decide if I should do GTS blue, Viper red and their corresponding two tone interiors, or come up with something atypical for Vipers. Rear wing is in the works.
  2. Thanks. I've plenty of gear for the dio. I've seen those sets and wasn't impressed. I'll be back at it soon.
  3. Some new work.
  4. So lately something called Vette Karts have been popping up on my Instagram and Pintrest. It's basically a C4 or C5 Corvette that's been stipped down to it's lowest common denominator. From what I've read it's a bit of a chicken and egg thing. Some say they existed before those Roadkill guys did one, others say it didn't. In either case, it looks like a helll of a fun thing to do with a car that isn't all that collectable or valuable, although I'm sure there might be some that are, for whatever reason. I've seen them built for the track, the dragstrip and off roading. Pretty crazy. So I thought that building one for my club corona build off would be fun. However, the only Vette I had that wasn't a picked over parts kit, was the Monogram Calloway. After perusing the kit, it was clear it was not going to be very suitable for the project. But I did however have a WIP Viper, that was sort of already being stripped down, so I busted it out and went further with the idea. First pic is the a Vette cart, the rest are the Viper (Revell GTS) from start to current status. I'm going to use the stock interior pieces, but cut up to look gutted of stereo, climate controls, etc. Stock wheels/tires as the stance is very good. I'll be adding a rear spoiler. Comments, criticism, and insane ideas are always welcome. More soon.
  5. My son is 27 and he loves these things. There are really well engineered, the fit/finish on them is phenominal. The go together REALLY well. For those on Facebook, check out a page called Weathered Models and you'll some folks doing amazing work with these Gundam kits. As the scale auto section of my local hobby shop has shrunk, the section for these has tripled in size. I'm with Ray, whatever gets folks building.
  6. Likely the nicest build up of that kit I have seen. Well done.
  7. That looks terrific. Nicely done. I hope to get back at mine during this Covid19 stay at home fiasco.
  8. This looks great. Right there with ya. I like everything except the headlight wings.
  9. Call me cold hearted if you want, but that's natural selection at work folks.
  10. I don't have recurring dreams, but I do have dreams with a recurring theme and thats' me being back in the Coast Guard. It's usually very weird and twisted, in no way resembling actual Coast Guard situations, and people from my life now are often there in the Coast Guard as well. I was in for 10 years, left in 2001 and I still miss it tremendously. This probably accounts for the dreams. Fair winds and following seas my friends.
  11. Kit! Thanks so much for posting these. You can bet some of these will end up in my shadowbox dio, currently on the bench. Just what I needed! ?
  12. After some initial test fittings and then seeing one buuilt here on the forums. It looks like the '32 chassis from this kit works REAL nicely under the AMT '32 Vicky, at least in the channeled configuration that I was looking at. A highboy, the chassis from the deuce kit's might be better. I'll try that out soon.

    32 Ford Vicky

AH! You beat me too it. I have both those same kits out on the bench testing to the chassis swap. It's nice to see they work so well together. I'll get to it eventually. Yours looks terrific. Real nice work.
  14. Curt, a very cool piece. Very authentic looking.
  15. Hmm. Shadow boxes are hard to light for photos. I have decided to halt adding more parts or detail until the I get the model car that will be the centerpiece. I'm going to do the Revell Henry J. Kind of perfect for this build. Working on a trade/purchase now. Gonna do the balcony now.
  16. Due to space constraints, these are my options for a WIP vehicle in the garage. I'm planning a body-off-frame scene with a engine and chassis on the left and the body on a rolling table being body worked. I am open to suggestions if you have an idea for something eye catching and different, that is of a similar size. AMT Ford Cobra 289 Revell 32 5 -Window Revell 29 Roadster AMT 32 Vicky (recent issue) AMT 25 Model T (chopped version) AMT Double Dragster Some cobbled together parts box hot rod.
  17. Very nicely done. I dig it.
  18. Yes. It is possible that automotive modeling will fade away when we do. But modeling itself will continue. Of the many still open and successful hobby shops I know, THIS has been dominating the shelves. My local Hobbytown USA has severely altered their shelves to accomodate 15-18 feet of shelf space to this one interest. They cost 3 to 5 times as much as a model car. I do not think cost is a factor in scale modeling, because kids still seem to afford $60 video games with no problem. The model companies KNOW that we oldsters are the target demographic for scale autos now. Their attempts to bring in the young crowd over the last 25 years have not been successful. They get that now, and that is why we've seen more and more old hot rod type kits, and fewer moderm vehicles. Don't sweat this because the future will take care of itself. We don't get to decide what happens. A wise man once wrote, Come mothers and fathers, throughout the land And don't criticize what you can't understand Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command Your old road is rapidly agin'. Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'.
  19. Pat, as luck would have it, we just harvested our steer.
  20. Finally back at this. Working on this suits my build time right now. I've decided to go about 70% on the detailing. Sort of a Normal Rockwell style garage. Still undecided what model car will be featured. I've got a gas compressor for the left corner. 3D printed and kinda rough. It's gonna take some serious sanding.
  21. Thanks Alan. Between all the Revell Ford Model A abd Model B kits, there are a lot of options for all sorts of swaps. I'm gonna try one with the AMT '32 Vicky soon.
  22. I think I've got this social distancing thing down pat.
  23. Man, this looks very cool. The weathering looks very realistic for a dry climate. Well done sir!
  24. I wouldn't think that would be an issue. Yes, this is an older thread forgive me, but it's been good for conversation before, and since I'd gone looking for it anyway, I figured why not give it a bump. As for bar raising models. I suggest you check out the coverage from the last GSL. I was there and I was beyond impressed. http://www.gslchampionship.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/GSL-XXVII.pdf
