  1. Sorry to be Debbie Downer. Now if we're talking Hurst editions, my vote would be for one of these - And they could base it on their Cutlass chassis, and go from there.
  2. Not enough sales to justify the cost. Can't do Lowrider or Donk variations with this tool. Very limited outcome. If only one had been done way back in 1970, we might still have it today!
  3. Impressive! Those wheels look great on there. Even at 1/18 scale, they balance out the cars lines.
  4. FYI, that wrecker body looks A LOT like the tow rig in the "Midnight Cowboy" kit. If you want to save time scratch building all that!

Do those headlights flip up? Never saw one of these close up before.
  6. I have to wonder how and why did it get there? Very strange.
  7. Definitely improved a lemon! The chopped roof just completely ruined that kit. And they're never going to fix it, so any way to eliminate that roof is welcomed!
  8. Jim would be proud!
  9. Great job on both! Gotta love the shape of those 2nd gen F bodies.
  10. Alan, I'd love to see your collection. You'd probably have a lot of great stuff I'd like to own (or at least USED to own! ?) Unfortunately, I'm currently not able to drive up there to "God's country" of Bakersfield, nor do I have the funds right now to do any buying. But I would enjoy seeing your current stash before it all goes away. PM me some photos if you're able! I love to live vicariously through other builder's collections! Too bad you won't be doing any more trading, we shared some GREAT stuff.
  11. I remember 13 years ago I said I was hanging it all up and tried to sell my entire stash to a local collector who would ask me when I was selling, to give him a call. I gave him a fair price for the whole K&K (kit and kaboodle) and he turned me down flat! After that, I swore I'd never again offer anything to so called "collectors"! I said, all I have was fair game to build or trash - or whatever I felt like doing with it! Collectors be dammed! Instead, I boxed it all up, stuffed it in the rafters of my garage and moved on with life. Kind of forgot about it all, until my son became 10 or 11 and we got to talking about cars and I told him about a big prize I had in the garage waiting for him. We pulled out the boxes, he exploded in happiness and I pulled out kits I forgot I even had! It was like a huge Christmas in July. I felt I stumbled upon a giant treasure trove in my own home! Ever since, it has been a personal getaway for me to explore, create, modify and build these cars into anything I want. Even if I don't finish them, I've decided that it's the "journey not the destination" that I enjoy. I let my son finish them if he wants to, and If he doesn't, at least it's still relaxing for me just as it is. Point is, Alan - may I suggest you keep the ones that you most like and put them away for someday. You may find that "someday" you'll again want those favorites, and cost will prevent you from getting them back. Collector's wont give you squat to buy them from you, but they WILL gouge you to sell them back! Best Wishes!
  12. I never saw it, can you post a pic of the box and contents for reference? I'd like to see what an original stock Comet kit looks like.
  13. It's not too late, drill a hole in the end, slip the wire and glue into the hole, let dry and seal the hole. Done and done.
  14. That's not bad steel, that's SALT! Especially the Chevy pickup, that was probably parked on the side of the road every time the spreader went by to clear the roads. Apparently the Bronco is still used in the snow. I wouldn't even want to attempt to open the door on that Ford, that door would just simply fall off! I need a tetanus shot just looking at that one.
  15. Why not just cement some wire inside it, and then bend it where you want it?
  16. Anyone noticed that at this car show, EVERYBODY is just walking away from it!
  17. What, you don't use your teeth for fine cuts?
  18. Maybe they'll put Coca Cola decals instead.
  19. Anybody know if they actually got the rights to use "Caterpillar" this time?
  20. IMO, This is the best version of this kit! It came with the camper shell, 2 sets of bed fenders, stock and custom vector wheels (which look perfect on a DofH General Lee, BTW), stock decals, fender flares, front air dam AND LOTS OF FUN!! Back then, I enjoyed building this one stock and used the extra bed parts on another stepside for a custom. I always searched for another kit to replace it, but as it was never reissued, it was always the hardest one to find complete. I ended up getting one with the camper shell missing and I was grateful to have found that! I'm glad I'll finally be able to get more of these babies, soon. Love that box art!
  21. Michelle, I deeply admire your creativity in wanting to scratchbuild something not available as a kit. However, you picked quite a "doozy" for a first project and I wouldn't want you to get frustrated and discouraged if it doesn't come out easy. If you do want to continue with this endeavor, I suggest using side profiles to get the general shapes right. I would start from the bottom and work your way up. Side fenders, I see a lot of Ferrari and 2007 Corvette blended together. The roof could be from the Charger kit that you have now, but chopped and recontoured. Lots of Sheet plastic and putty is going to have to go into this one. There just isn't a lot of readily available parts for this. Are you sure you're ready for all of this modification? I would suggest start with projects that have simpler mods. Smaller changes, but big on impact. Maybe try making an early 50s mild custom or even a 70s Corvette. Just to get your building skills down first. You can do a lot of scratching and puttying on one of those without having to redesign a whole car. And always remember to do most of your custom work in plastic or some solid base. Don't rely on putty alone to make heavy changes. Putty is easy to shape but won't hold up on it's own without a firm backing. Let it be the final finish to smooth out imperfections, not the "go to" to hide sloppy bodywork. Good luck, and make it fun!
  22. Boy, George sure had an eye for dressing like a pimp. Can someone turn down that suit? It's way too loud!
  23. Snake, Try using parts from the 65 El Camino or wagon. Same scale and tooling era. Might be closer.
  24. Me too! Small airbrushing to update the cab and hubcaps on the box and you're good to go. Even better if they could find the GMC cab. But I'm not picky.
