Or how about an American Limo? Or 4 door roadster? A Phaeton, using the roof from a Monkeemobile? A Corvette Summer Sedan? An Uber Cab? Sorry, I'm not feeling well.???
-
That's probably what happened to the America kit, so we'll never see that one reissued. And just when we were getting so many ideas, too! BTW - it was a real car...

Are you saying that the ENTIRE body is 3D printed, or just the added on parts? Fender flares, rear panel etc. I want to know what parts are possible from a 3D printer. Thanks.

Does this look familiar?
Oldcarfan27 replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looking at all the cars in the background, he's probably a buyer/seller not a junkyard, so I'm going to assume the car is safe from that fate. My opinion is, if the original builder was an experienced professional, why did they neglect such visible details in the back window. It looks fixed in place and may not roll down. The rest looks very restorable though. -
That's a good build of that car. I don't know what you started with, but you did it up well! Very stupid movie though. I always thought the late model Chrysler 300s looked like this car - high beltline, chopped, blocky roof, headlights and all. BTW, this is another one of George Barris custom cars and he ruined a classic Lincoln Mark III to do it.

I love it! I want this as a kit. You really like those barges? Looks like the headlights open, true?
-
Just found this on Google images. Apparently, it was up for sale recently. Don't know if it found a buyer. I wonder if it was inspired by the kit? Looks like a decent job except for the "rush job" back window area.

I remember an old build article in a model car magazine back in the 80s that explained how to build a torsion rod mechanism that duplicates the spring loaded action on the trunk, just like the real car. He also recreated a snap latch to hold the hood down when closed. He made a small button on the chassis that popped the trunk and the torsion bar spring held the trunk open. Just like a real car. It was a cool design! I think it was Jairus Watson who did it. And if I recall correctly, he did it on a red mid-eighties Mustang convertible. Anybody else remember the article?

Aerodynamic it may be, aesthetically pleasing it ain't! -

Nope, Amazon EXPRESS! -
I personally wouldn't mind decent scale models of these done as 1/24, 1/25 die casts. As long as the design was right and the scale fidelity was accurate. They would look good on my shelf! I'm not a huge fan of die cast models, usually because the proportions are wrong or the opening door gimmicks have gaps that you could stick your foot through if done in full size. And I'm so sick of the huge wheel/rubber band tire combos that they come with. However, I realize there may be more of a market for cars like these as collectibles than as plastic model kits. If they produce them in our scale (not 1/18, 1/32 or 1/43), then yes, I would buy them. But they have to be stock, with proper wheels and tires and accurate to scale! Plus, The weight of the die cast heft that they would have, could add to the feel of the largeness of these cars and could be considered a bonus. What say you?

Agreed, but only if it had wheels like this and not the "pimp sized dubs" that they put on everything else. -

For all you guys who want a Vette wagon
Oldcarfan27 replied to oldnslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think it was a 67. If you look close at the side glass, it doesn't have vent windows. It looks more like a vertical mark on the glass in that area, so it probably started out as a 68. The 69 quarters were changed out, so they probably filled in the side markers too. Either way, it looks like they just "plopped" the Vega roof on it and called it a day. It's a monstrosity, to be sure. As far as the yellow one, it bugs me that they didn't widen the Vega roof to match the width of the Camaro. And then they added IMSA fenders on it, which dates it back to the late 70s, but it probably wasn't finished until the 80s judging by the paint graphics. My favorite part is the dual license plate holders - for multiple state registrations! -

Lindberg's big Stealth - Mopar from the East (OOB)
Oldcarfan27 replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Interesting review on a not so interesting kit. I remember being one of the first go rush out and buy this kit when it came out back then. I went headlong into building it before I found out it HAD NO TURBOS! A Stealth R/T with no turbos is just a Stealth E/S, but then it has AWD which wasn't available on non-turbo cars. I did end up finishing it as a custom convertible, which looked good. I never built another Stealth again. That itch was scratched with this kit and I lost all interest in the Stealth after that. Apparently, the same thing happened to the real car, because it didn't last too long either. -
Makes sense! It sounds like a turbine on the show. Very clever.

Now this I really like! Looks like a stretched Ferrari/Jaguar. If you're gonna rob a bank, make it Fort Knox! I like the deep offset wheels and the white stripe tires - must be from the 60s. Should be posted as Wild Things 4, instead of those other "freak cars" -
These are cool! Very unique builds. I've never seen a build of the Stroker Ace Tbird and I really want to build the Emergency! paramedic truck. Where did you get that large decal for the Smokey and the Bandit truck? That's another someday build for me. I love that movie. I want to post some of my ancient TV car builds, but am intimidated - all these posts look sooo good!
