Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that's a rare one! -
And some people say the old kits are inferior to today's new kits. This goes to prove, it's not the age of the kit but the amount of effort put into the building of it that makes it look stunning! Well done, Yuri. Great photography too!

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!

My current "Hopeless Case", provided by Pat Minarick (Thanks, Pat). 69 Falcon junker. As received... After 3 soaks in brake fluid, 4 sprays with Easy-Off oven cleaner and 2 swipe sessions with mineral spirits to remove the small stuck areas. That blue paint was tough! And as it is right now... The hood is borrowed from my 66 Falcon and is used to make sure all the pieces are in the right place. I might try scratchbuilding a new hood if I can't find another one. I plan on using the chassis and most of the interior from the 66 Fairlane and a small block Ford from an early Mustang to get it up and running. Pat supplied the grille, bumpers, taillights, dash and windshield, so I'm almost there. The body still has all of the trim and script details intact so I'm trying to restore this to stock as best as I can. -
Hey guys, what happened to the MODEL cars?
-
That's what happens when greedy speculators get to Hobby Lobby first. Notice it's still up for sale. I hope he is stuck with it forever!

I think this might be the one you're talking about. The car was cool, but I don't think the show was on for that long back in the 80s, that's probably why no-one remembers it.

Name those parts #4

Yep, that's it! Now I want to find those other custom parts and attach them to a Nova for a Ventura clone! Thanks guys. I'll post more oddball parts like these as I find them. It's fun learning where they came from.? -

I looked up AMT 76 Nova online. Kit no. is T472, but I couldn't find any pictures of the contents. If anybody can find pictures of the parts for this kit or the instruction sheet, please post it here. I'm dying to know where this part came from. Thanks. -

No, I don't. The hood was loose in a box full of miscellaneous parts. It's a smaller size, like a Mustang or Cougar. And it has hook hinges like an old AMT or MPC kit from the 60s. Other than that, I have no clue. I can't even tell if it's a stock or custom hood. Although the fiberglass texture on the bottom tells me it might be the latter. -

Ok, I'll match it up with the Round 2 reissue that I have. I've been thinking it was a Pontiac hood, never even thought about it being a Ford. The hood cover is a match for a custom part on a mid 70s Dodge van. Now, if anyone knows what car the orange hood goes to.... -
You really made a "silk purse out of a sows ear", so to speak. One thing, those giant front wheelwells cry out for some zoomie headers sticking out. Everything else is spot on! Great job!

Parts interchangeability was the Pontiac's hallmark. The only part that wouldn't interchange was the crankshaft between small journal blocks and large journal blocks. Exterior physical dimensions were the same. Heads were different specs, but most could bolt on any block. Open and closed chamber heads were the defining factors. The final "small displacement" Pontiac engine blocks were just hogged out castings, done to make the engines lighter to pass emissions standards of the day. Most earlier parts will physically bolt on, but the blocks are too weak to handle the same power output. That's why they are the shunned orphans in the Pontiac community.

What kits are these from? 1. Hood - top Bottom. 2. Hood - top. Looks like a Pontiac, but doesn't match any kits I've seen. 3. Visor? Hood scoop? Any clues? Thanks for playing.

Only because he's got more of them around his house! Doh!?

Oh, it's definitely a classic beetle - design hasn't changed in millions of years! ?
-
Yeah, but what year is it? And what SCALE is it? Get it? Scale, exoskeleton, beetle? Ahem. Ok, you got me. Funny joke. By the way - I think there's a small bug in the paint job.

Don't know about the yellow Mustang, but there was a green fastback on "Spenser, for hire" And the Tbird was from a show called "Vega$"
-
Very cool! I can't wait until I can afford one of those good printers someday. You should offer to sell copies.

Hmm, Porsche Panamera - Corvette America. I see similarities in the names. Maybe Porsche was inspired by the Corvette?
