SOME CURRENT ROUND 2 INFO TODAY...
Oldcarfan27 replied to AC Norton's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I would buy a few! What say you guys? To make this happen, we need to let John at Round 2 know we'd seriously buy them! This company is listening to us, let's not waste the opportunity. This was an awesome kit and we have never seen it reissued. With Round 2 looking at fixing it - it's now or never guys! -

Ain't it the truth. -
That's a GREAT idea! And the best part is, once you have the buck, you can make as many headlight buckets as you want - no more searching for the right headlights in the parts box or having to buy a certain kit just to pluck it's "eyeballs" out! Make molds for the lenses and resin copy them and you'll never run out of realistic headlights again. You know that old saying "give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day"? Well, "give a man an idea for realistic headlights and he'll be set for life"!

Um, OhKayy -
It's probably best not to glue it together until you are near ready to finish it. With all of the handling, painting and polishing, it'll probably break again and then your worse off than before. I suggest taking off that blasted support strap (that was supposed to keep it from breaking, gently bend the bent posts back into position and tape it along with a splint so it doesn't get damaged more. Carefully remove the tape and splint right before you are going to glue the windshield in place to keep glue buildup to a minimum.

Color looks authentic for the time period , Great Job!

Dust specks follow the same rule. They wait until you've sprayed that last color coat, then fall Kamikaze style right in the middle of the roof - why is it always the roof?! -
It's the headlight areas, they just don't look right at all! And the chassis and engine are worthless. I do think they modified the tool back to the 70 1/2 so I don't think we'll ever see the 77 again. And now that they have the new tool 70, the old one is probably dead now.

Kudos to Alan Alexis for another large box of great trades. His business works nearby, so we can do big trades when his driver is in town. Looking forward to next time Alan, 5 thumbs up ?????

I think you've proven that even bad kits can look good, given the proper building technique. They just don't "fall" together looking good. Attention to detail is key Great job! Now try a 69 Firebird, 77 Camaro (AMT) and old Revell 67 beetle (no fair using the new one) Honorable Mention goes to AMTs 59 (actually 60) Corvette. That one is so bad, you become a master builder if you can make that one look good!

Underbody painting on US cars
Oldcarfan27 replied to Matt Bacon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I don't know if there were any rules, but my way of thinking is this. When the body was in the paint booth, the painters had just enough time to shoot the "beauty" areas, they didn't have time to fully paint and detail areas that were out of general view of the public eye. Wheelwells and more visible chassis parts were just shot with undercoat or black afterwards. What you generally see on the chassis is color overspray on the primer base. Remember, on real cars the chassis pan is part of the unibody shell, so it would get hit with paint when the body did. What you see on models is the overspray effect to make the chassis look like it was painted the same time as the body was. Hope this helps. -
Just to save you some needless work, I don't think those are ejector marks - they look too clean and defined. Besides, they'll most likely be covered by the twin I beam suspension in the kit anyway. So I wouldn't fret worrying about them.

3d printed wire wheels
Oldcarfan27 replied to Bilingham's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That's incredible! I want those. Can you design wire wheel hubcaps? Like the ones on 70s and 80s luxury cars. Nobody makes anything like that, and I'm looking to build an 80s Regal and Monte Carlo. Similar to wire wheels, but more shallow. Basically spokes with no offset. -
I don't know if anyone else does these, but I like you're designs so keep these in mind, Especially since you brought up Oldsmobiles and Chevelles.... I know Fred Cady used to make the 442 W30 and Ralley 350, but since he's OOB and as far as I know, no one makes the stripes for the Laguna. Although, many builders have converted the race car into the stocker. Again, I have a conversion done for the Ralley and the Laguna, but they need the stripes.

Your Buick Pace car sets are Epic! The only bummer is it's the "cart before the horse" kind of thing. But I love them anyway. BTW - I've been working on a scratchbuild replica of my parents 73 Century Luxus for quite some time now, this might be my inspiration to get it finished. Do you know somebody reputable who'd want to make a mold of it? The 81 Regal is totally do-able. Will you scale it for the 1/24 kit, and will it have decals for both the Actual and Replica Pace cars? I've wanted to do both of those for decades now. Do you have a price on that sheet yet?

Just completed my first trade with Steve Guthmiller, hopefully won't be my last. Great stuff he sent me and it was even put it in a cool, old box! Shipped faster than Amazon. I'm very satisfied, Steve. Thanks.

1978 Dodge Adventurer 150
Oldcarfan27 replied to migace's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice, I've had a hankerin' to build one too. All it needs is a DODGE decal for the tailgate. -
Are you going to take it? Looks like a real cool project if it's restorable. Do you know what the "other" side looks like? Having been sitting on the ground that way for a long time, I'm betting it's gonna have at least some rust issues. Those Mopars rust bad enough in the normal position, can't imagine what happens when it's sitting on a side that probably didn't have ANY rust protection. Get more pics if you can. That car's got loads of character!

Murphy was right!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He never would've been interested if it was a reissue, ONLY the vintage original issue parts. And only the unbuilt ones, maybe because they're MINT flavored. ? -
Just some other ideas, Freewheeling Bronco (If Round 2 ever reissues this kit) Or this Bronco Freewheeling F150, for the Firestone pickup. Or the Cruisin van, If the next AMT kit doesn't come with these decals. Or the Pinto, but I think these were only on the 78. I always liked the vibrant colors these cars came in. They'd make great models. I wrote to Round 2 suggesting these options, but I'm not holding my breath.
