That's a really good job at converting the 4 door back into a stock 81. But wouldn't it have just been easier to use the Monogram 82 snapper and the 78 chassis? That's what I did, the parts fit perfectly, and no body work. Although, you now have me thinking about doing a Corvette 4 door Wagon! Or how 'bout a hearse? Hmmm, Now where can I get one of those America kits.....

STEVE SCOTT ,A.KA . [ UNCERTAIN T ]
Oldcarfan27 replied to bpletcher55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's the original Monkeemobile and it's designer/builder Dean Jefferies. And George trying to take the credit Thankfully the TV show gave Dean the proper credit. Also, Here's a blog written about Barris' integrity. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/master-fabricator-wherein-george-barris-takes-credit-everything-150734830.html?source=images -

You be the judge... Sam Barris And George Barris' work And who can forget? Let's just say George was the promoter, Sam was the craftsman. Although, Geo. Did have some inspired designs... -

You have to see his creativity as a collective whole to be able to judge. Especially the stuff he claimed entirely as his own. Then compare the cars Sam Barris did in his all too brief career. Including one of the first - if not THE FIRST 49 Mercs chopped in So. Cal and the Hirohata Merc, and you'll see who had an eye for design. The fact that George took credit for other builders is legendary. Dean Jefferies, Larry Watson, Bill Hines and probably many more. He was known to buy pre-built customs, change some trim, paint it and then show it as his own creation. It's the one thing that always irked me about his business ethics. Case in point, compare the 66 Batmobile that he gets credit for building and compare it with the Lincoln Futura that it was based on and you'll see 90% of it is Ford's "better idea" the rest is just the gingerbread he added to it. The original Batmobile is the best Batmobile though. -
So does Kim Kardashian, but I don't want her either!

Especially if they are expecting more than $100 for the kit! No excuses. -

Imagine trying to color sand and polish out the paint on a scale model of that!

Name those parts #3

Looks like you're right. I looked it up online, that thing is hideous! Somebody from Palmer must have worked there then?. Thanks Mark. I know why they called it "Fireball", a little subliminal selling point, perhaps? It was either that or "Firecracker " -
I'd hate to be the one who gets shishkabobbed crossing in front of it while jaywalking! Seriously, this is where automotive car design has gone to - styling gimmicks! This car is loaded with them. I have to admit, it is unique for the time being. Until every other car maker copies it, and it becomes mundane. Car companies are so unoriginal.

Anybody know where these are from? I got these parts from ewetwo, but I have no idea where they could have come from. They look like they're from a poorly scaled 59 Pontiac. I figure approximately 1/20 to 1/16 scale, judging by the 1/25 scale wheel I put next to them. I looked up ITC, Ideal Plastics, Premier and even Palmer, and I couldn't find anything. I even looked up 59 Pontiac toy, no luck there either. Any ideas where these are from?

I have a couple of acetate bodies that I want to strip the brushed on paint and then straighten them up. As I will be sectioning the curves out of them by cutting up the bodies, I'm not worried about heating the plastic or further distorting them. However, my question is this - What is the best and safest chemical to strip enamel paint from acetate? Also, what is the best glue to use to repair and bond new polystyrene plastic to it? I don't want to dunk them in just any chemical and risk ruining the composition of the acetate. Same with the adhesive. Thanks for your help.

86 Elcamino SS
Oldcarfan27 replied to OldTrucker's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Where did those wheels come from? They look like A-Team wheels. The wheel/tire combination and the stance look perfect. I have a few of those kits, but I've never given the SS serious thought until seeing yours. I have the kits as donors for stock versions, but now I may have to build one out of the box! Great job. -
Name that part #2

Makes sense, Console looks like its from a later mustang. Possibly AMT? Doesn't look like MPC. -
Yeah, junk it before it explodes!?
-
Dullcoat it, it's too shiny for a rust bucket. Other than that, the patina looks great!
-
Any body know what Mustang this interior bucket is from? I tried fitting it into my AMT 66 restoration/conversion, but it's not quite the same. Any ideas?
-
Sure looks like your car. Diecast or plastic? Do you remember the title of that thread?

Absolutely right! I found amazing deals at model train shows, 1:1 car swap meets, antique and consignment shops, thrift stores, garage and estate sales and swap meets. Never miss an opportunity to look in oddball places. The old guys are dying off so their families just want to unload this "junk" before escrow closes. Harsh, but true. Our heirs don't really care about this stuff like we do, so when were gone they just want it OUT! I'm an old guy too, so I know my days are numbered with my prizes. Just being realistic, I enjoy them while I can. I just hope a modeller gets them before an opportunistic seller does. -
Gorgeous 'vert, have you made a model of it yet? If I recall, is that cylinder on the sides or the center of the back seat? If it's in the center, it's right over the rear differential. Have you also checked that diff? They're notorious leakers. Follow the shiny oil trail. Run your hands along the entire system until you feel oily or wet areas. Look there when you find it. Also, check those plastic hoses for contact areas that vibrate and rub against sharp metal areas. It may have started to rub through.

I'm confused, my comment was stating that there's a lot of younger folks (under 30) living in the past, liking old cars and they weren't even BORN when those car were new! I didn't say they don't like old cars - quite the contrary, I was saying that they DO! My son loves old cars and he's only 13. I've brainwashed him well!
