  1. I may be the only one, but quite honestly I'm done with trucks that have the "styling by Tonka or Playschool" look. All the manufacturers have gone to this. Styling lines that go in all directions, lights and grilles that look like they came off of a school bus and fenders that overpower the rest of the truck. Basically, all automotive styling has lost any uniqueness. All the cars copy the same "me too" look. It's as if the designers were all given the same software and they only use what comes with the program. Click here for the jellybean sedan, paint it in white, black or grey and you can have the interior any color you want as long as it's charcoal. Click there for crossover SUV, make it look like a hightop shoe rollerskate and paint it silver. Oh and don't forget the black interior. I miss the old days when humans, who had a passion for cars, designed a car for an emotional individuality and drew it based on the way a car would make you FEEL when driving it! There used to be all kinds of styling for all kinds of different tastes. Options were everywhere and many times you wouldn't see another car exactly like yours for years after you bought it. Now they're just soulless lumps of Plastic and Steel. Just an appliance that you scrap when your lease expires. Just my opinion.
  2. Don't you know? That's the optional, ultrasonic, megawave, heat exchange, centralized hovercraft converter unit. A very rare part, only a few Avantis were ever sold with them. Thats why Studebaker when bankrupt. It couldn't overcome gravity! ? That's also why this one was only built with one wheel.?
  3. Hey, I just noticed - how come the wheel caps are chrome on one side and white on the other? Couldn't decide, huh? Both look good.
  4. Beautiful truck, very nice color choice. Can you get some shots of the interior? It looks like you've done some detailing in there, but we can't see it. BTW, I think yours looks 100x better than the ugly box art truck. They would sell a LOT more if they'd used a truck like yours to sell it instead of that.
  5. I agree, very restrained and very effective. Just enough weathering to make it look used, but not wrecked. Tough to do sparingly and not overdone. I like how the faded chrome matches the rest of the body. Chrome shouldn't be shiny when the rest of the truck is dull. Nice job, let's see the rest of the truck done to this same level.
  6. I'd kinda want to just put period wheels and tires on them and leave them as a window to the past - for a while anyways. That black roadster looks cool the way it is! You definitely can tell it was built in the 60s by those wheels and tires. They're not bad the way they are.
  7. I think that's the fun and satisfaction of it all. Saving something that everyone considers worthless trash. For me it started decades ago when I purchased a couple of built kits from a thrift store, they weren't anything considered rare, but they were all I had of those kits. They came out so nice, that I wanted to try again - and again. It's like an addiction, I find the challenge of starting with a cheap, pile of mess and making something better with it, is just too much fun! Besides, were just doing our part to Save The Earth! We're recycling to keep plastic out of the landfills, Right?
  8. Anyone local to Orange County California - Anaheim area, interested in trading model car kits and parts locally? We can PM our offers here and can meet up in a nearby public location to do the deal and save money and time in postage. We can also talk about model cars and our projects while we're there if you want. PM me and let me know if you're interested.
  9. My samsung android has it, up on the right - the 3 vertical dots. Click on it, scroll down to "Add to Home Screen" Voila! A shortcut should be on one of the home pages.
  10. Mike, why not post the before picture ro the Glue Bombs post and get that thread jump started again? This car qualifies. Awesome job, BTW.
  11. And it only took 21 pages to get here.
  12. I was having the same problem. The menu page is hard to navigate. I've saved a shortcut on my phone to MCM Forum to make it easier to get here. To find "Forums" when starting from the menu page, go to the bottom of the page, click on "View full site". Then click on the 3 bars on the upper left corner, click on "Home". Then scroll all the way down to "Forum". Took me a few tries to figure this out. That's why I just saved a shortcut on my phone. It's more better!
  13. This car gets better and better! Can't wait to see it finished. Only thing, I think it's sitting a little low for a stock Nova.
  14. It's your hobby, do what makes you happy. Some folks collect, some kitbash, others only build right out of the box. Some only like to do bodywork, some only like painting, some like superdetailing. Some like building mutiple curbsides for their shelf, other's pay to buy diecast builtups on their shelf. It's up to you how far you want to go. If it's not fun, it's not a HOBBY so why bother?
  15. The old ex-Monogram 1/24 Bronco is the easiest to build. I've done a few and they give the best results with the least amount of grief. The Blazer is a fun old kit, but is a little fiddly, especially in the back area once you cut away the reinforcement sprue. I'd suggest dry fitting EVERYTHING before gluing and painting, so you can see how it'll go before you're committed. It looks great when done though. The Ramcharger is OK to build, but lacks in some locating points, especially the interior to body, so it can be a little frustrating to assemble. Again dry fitting will help prepare you for unexpected repairs or modifications before you paint stuff. I find the body to be a little boxy compared to the MPC Dodge pickup, but the only solution to that is MAJOR reconstruction and I don't recommend that if you're just starting out. Hope this helps.
  16. Thank you all for all of the great information. I especially like the photos and the color samples. Because of your input, I decided to get key lime because it looks like the closest choice to what I have in mind. I'm also going to use it for a Datsun 240Z build that I have in mind, because it looks like it's going to match a color they used back then too. So this can is not going to waste! Thanks so much, for your help!
  17. I had one that I found at a thrift store way back in the 80s. I think I paid all of 2 bucks for it. Unbuilt, with all of tbe paraphernalia, I thought it was so cool that it had the tinted glass! There was even some tin license plates dated 1970 (the ones they used to give away in the cereal boxes) so that dated the kit for me. Regrettably, I sold it a couple decades ago when somebody offered crazy money for a bunch of my big rig kits. Now I don't have the money OR the kits. And I accidentally left the license plates in the box. Double bummer!
  18. Orange is orange, I don't think too many people are going to harass you for that. Just make sure the car NEVER has any dents or damage, even after hard jumps or run-ins with Roscoe P. Coletrane! Can't let anyone see the automotive equivalent to Superman as a weakling.
  19. I thought for sure it was molded in army green, but I checked it again and scraped it. Sure enough, it's molded in black. So it could be a Bat product, but since I don't have anything Batman, I have no idea what it came out of. Any guesses?
  20. Oh great, a crate full of beetles!
  21. Yeah, and most of THAT was already designed by Ford for the Motorama in the 50s. He even tried to "ugly" that up but couldn't. His brother Sam had an eye for good design. George just took the credit when other builders did good work.
  22. Or a Bug that got stepped on!
  23. Looks like an UGLIER VW beetle.
