Happy Ford/Chevy Day!

Wow, I'll bet he caught a lot of flak for that! If he had sold Dodge, he could have covered all his bases. -
Game of "Name that Part"

Just take small bites, no rush, this is just for fun. Anyone else care to add more? I like seeing oddball parts too! -

I thought it looked like a Revell casting, especially with the separate transmission. Cool! -

Some more: Resin copies, but what were they copied from? #16, snow plow. Front And back. #17. Looks like an RV toilet. Anybody know from where? #18. This is a strange one. It looks like an old 50s Univac computer, but I have no idea what it's for or where it came from. The rest of it is a simple block. -
Game of "Name that Part"

More... #11. Looks like a mailbox attached to a wooden gate or fence. Molded in aqua. #12. Artillery wheel, molded in white. #13. 2 fenders, stuck together at the mounting posts. #14. 1/20 scale wheel Which was once attached to this... Note: the front tire is an ancient piecrust drag slick that was grooved in the tread area like a sprint car tire. The rest of the Caddy is a sad nightmare. But I'm still going to try to salvage some of the parts from it. I think the 1/20 front wheels were related to the kit from this part... #15. Know what it is? Hint: it was just reissued recently. -

Here's more.... #6. All chrome Chevy engine. #7. Generic early hemi (392?) Molded in blue. #8. Amt Torino grille, but my reissues don't show the GT emblem. Early issue? #9. Die cast grille. This one's probably an easy one. But did it belong to a SPECIFIC kit, or were they all the same? #10. Rear double doors. These are siamesed together and look like they came that way. There is also glass and separate interior panels attached. MPC? -
It's time again for a Rousing Round of Name That Part! I just got a box full of miscellaneous parts. (Thanks, Alan A.) Many parts here are either unfamiliar to me or I'm not sure which kit they came from. Extra Brownie points if you can name which kit version the part came from. By the way, I encourage others to add their unknown parts to this post. Let's have fun. Here we go.... #1. A chrome tree - some of the small parts look like Ala Kart, maybe the double kit with the Model A? #2. small block Chevy - not familiar with the headers, any ideas? #3. Firebird hood - fits the original MPC 68 and the reissue 69 I have, but it doesn't show up in either instruction sheet. May be molded in light grey. #4. 90s Silverado hoods. - Molded in yellow and gray. Does not match the hoods in the old annuals. And I've never seen the AMT kits molded in yellow. #5. Unknown interior bucket, molded in army green. Dashboard shape has me stumped. Any guesses?

Atta boy! Show us both when it's done. Good buy on that new one, BTW.

He did a pretty good job anyway. The Plymouth script is just his signature. Try getting another one, build it and display them together as father and son builds. He'd be happy to see that. I'm a dad, so I speak from the heart.
-
If that was a kit MY dad had built, I personally would just find the parts to fix the wing and just leave it as a memorial to him. You can always find another Superbird, but you'll never find another one HE built. It's got his personal touch all over it. I'd say clean it up and leave it alone, but that's just my opinion.

New Links to Old Photos

Awesome of you to do that. I personally like seeing old posts, but get frustrated when there are no pics. I'll check yours out again. -
MODELERS! I BESEECH THEE- back to modeling, help me decide!
Oldcarfan27 replied to GaryR's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Now that's a REAL model builder! In order to be worth your salt, you gotta have multiple kits going at the same time. One kit means you're not creative enough! LOL Show us pics, they both sound interesting. -
Happy Hemi/Mopar Day!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I enjoy your little reminders. I wish the months were longer, so we could celebrate stroker days 3/83 and 4/92 and Pontiac days 3/89, 4/00 and 4/55. Actually, I just remembered, Friday IS Pontiac day 4/28. I gotta go get a cake! Woohoo!!? -

Aww, and I forgot to get you a card. Happy Big Block Holidays, and don't celebrate too much! -
Looks like a fun build. Gives new meaning to the term "Monster Truck"
-
That's a nice idea. Looks really good. Did Chevy build any like that? I'm not knocking yours at all, I'm just curious.
-
Cool, thanks. I'll look for it.

Those tires look excellent, a little off white, just like the real thing, especially since the rest of the car is going to look weathered too. Care to give us a picture of the tool you used to make them and the type of tape you cut them out of? How well did they stick? I remember some old whitewall labels in the past would stretch or curl up when you tried to put a wheel in the tires. If these stay stuck, I want to use this method to make my own too.

1970 Ford
Oldcarfan27 replied to tbill's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Beautiful truck. I gotta know, did you detail the tailgate panel yourself or did it come as a decal? It looks really good! -
We probably needn't worry about them completely eliminating their product lines, it says they're being "phased out" not dropped. They'll more than likely be doing similar size cars, but with new names. Besides, it's their own fault those cars aren't selling well - they all look the same! Park them side by side and you can't tell one grille from another. I've heard of brand identification, but these muzzles all look like they came frome the same cookie cutter. No creativity at all.

T Fruitwagon 1925 AMT stalled project
Oldcarfan27 replied to oneescalante's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is really a fun kit to build. My son built the model T (his choice - he wanted the kit just for this!) and I built the fruit wagon. I wasn't expecting much, I just wanted to use the leftover parts. But it turned out cool right out of the box. I didn't paint it, but now I want to find another one to do a fully detailed truck from it. He and I both enjoyed it a lot. -
Beautiful car, pictures would have been better if Richard Simmons wasn't there. ??? Is someone going to build a model of this one?
-
C This isn't the first time Ford has made radical decisions about their product line. They did this a few years ago (2012) with the Ranger - handing that busy market to Toyota and Nissan. (GM and Dodge stopped selling midsize trucks before that). This is how Domestic Automakers keep getting into financial problems over and over again, they keep shortsightedly chasing the big profits now and don't invest in future trends. Do you think the Mustang would have ever been conceived if the bean counters had been there to say "Nah, there's no market for a small sporty car". Or how about the Edsel when they said that the public needed yet ANOTHER big semi-luxury car. I guess corporate figures the taxpayers will bail them out once again if they fail.
