Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just want to 'bash it with a 57 to make a 58 that I DON'T have. I mostly want it for the stuff that makes a 58 different from a 57. I can make it work - whatever you have! Thanks -

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's some of mine. Got this on the 'bay years ago. Just needs an engine, wheels and some love. I haven't cleaned it off because I don't have the heart to get rid of those pinstripe decals. Found this one a year ago in a junk box at a kit show. Original MPC 66 GTO. Look promising? Insurance company said it was a total loss - but at least they found the drunk driver that hit it!? I got it because the scripts were perfect, mine was messed up years ago from too much paint, too much sanding and being too aggressive with the carving knife. Sooo.... I cut away the melted areas and grafted in my primered original. The red and darker parts are my butchered original. Whiter parts are the glue blob I got last year. And everything lines up! And this prize. AMT 67 Galaxie, started as an old worn out slot car. Also found at the same kit show parts box. Found the broken body(in 3 places), hood, grille and rear bumper and glass. (BTW - traded the other grille already, don't ask) I've already fixed the body and am using a 66 Galaxie chassis, with the interior as a stand in until I find the right one. I'm still looking for the taillights, hubcaps and interior. I haven't decided on an original Ford color yet. Yes, it's the same car. -
Let's See Some Glue Bombs!

Were ANY of those original issues ever built well from the start? I've seen a lot of bad ones that look like this, never any that didn't look like they were built by a 6 year old. And they've always had the lights welded on. Did they really flip around, or is that a myth? Just asking. -

That's great to know, I'll have to try it. -
Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Oldcarfan27 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, me too. Reminds me of an MPC 66 Pontiac hardtop, a 77 Pinto cruisin van and a few others that I tossed because they had too many coats of paint and I didn't know back then that paint could be stripped off of plastic. I never toss anything out now, never know how it might be used in the future. This is a fun thread - I had to revive it. I need to see more. I'd post mine but I don't have a hosting site yet. -

I can save it, do you still have it and do you wanna trade for it? Do you have the bumpers for it? -
50 Chevy Farm Truck

That truck is weathered just enough to make it look like its still usable for daily work. In fact, it's calling out to be restored! LOL.? The chrome looks perfect for this truck. It has the same oxidation as the rest of the paint. I especially like the faded woodgrain on the tailgate and the tape holding the taillight in place. Great job! -
Will the grille fit the 1/25 Little Red Express? I know there are scale differences. I've always wanted to build a replica of the paramedic squad truck from "Emergency!" By the way Scott, I'll be watching your build on this. Are you going to do it stock or off road? I have a 1/64 diecast of the Plymouth from Greenlight. It's stock in blue with the dog dish caps. That's another one I'd like to build, light blue with white lower 2 tone. Just don't see enough of these built as the older versions.

Did a great trade with Dr. Kerry. Looking forward to trading again.

Thanks for the props, JC. Would trade with you again in a heartbeat.

Volkswagen Taro
Oldcarfan27 replied to iamsuperdan's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Where did VW actually sell this blatant copy of the Toyota (I know, badge engineering) They could have at least changed the grille. I've never seen one of these before, and I live in California - we see everything! Must've been a European only car. I like the kit though. I'll leave mine as a Toyota. -

Imagine the size of the party if this was parked in your driveway. Looks like a fun build. -

Since he said he used military kits, I'm betting 1/35. ? -

I remember I had built Lindberg's 1/20 Dodge Stealth when it first came out. Built up OK, but the details were wrong (no turbo). Turned me off on buying any of their other 1/20 scale offerings. Looks like they improved their game by this time. Nice job. Try the AMT 1/20 Toyota 4x4 pu as a companion. It's an old Lindberg kit too. -
Looks classy to me. Your remade hinges will probably last longer than the originals would. If you're already reengineering models this soon, you're going to have some awesome builds to show us in the future! Great job.

Translation please.?

Hey, you just found a way to use those old Revell AAR Cudas with the stretched wheelbase proportions - convert them into four door sedans, problem solved!

keep stopping at the end of my builds
Oldcarfan27 replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know I'm just like you. My joy comes from the initial idea, the research and the creative process of building what I see in my mind. It's after that, that I lose my steam. I've had too many messed up paint jobs, too many broken parts after spending months modifying them into what I need, and too many times that bodywork cracks or shrinks after I've finished all that hard work. I'm now reluctant to finish them, knowing that they won't be completed to my satisfaction anyway. Here's what has saved many of my projects from becoming doomed, parts box refugees... My son. He doesn't care about the flawless paint jobs, or that the door jamb isn't far enough back, or that the seam I tried to hide with putty still shows. He just wants to see it done. He takes over where I get bored. He finishes it anyway. And you know what? It still looks pretty good on his shelf. He's given me perspective. He's become my inspiration to build it to the point where HE can finish it. That takes the pressure off of me. I create, which I like to do and he completes, which he likes to do. Together we finish what I can't do alone. And we have fun doing it. And ultimately, I'm passing on the hobby to him. Which is the goal many of us strive for, Right? -
Why do people dig up these old threads???
Oldcarfan27 replied to Force's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If that was the case, then why on earth would anyone ever want to read old novels, keep a library of classic literature or hold onto anything from those old dead writers like Shakespeare, Jack London, Charles Schultz or even Dr. Seuss? They're more than 2 years old, so they don't have anything to offer for newer readers, Right? Maybe it's better if we get rid of it so there's more room for only new writers. Sorry to go on a rant, but I find it a little disingenuous for someone to tell the rest of us what's good enough for us to read. There's some wisdom that those old folks have to share with the young whippersnappers, if they would only just take the time to listen. I find a lot of good subjects that were written years ago in these threads. Information that may seem dated to some, but is fascinating in it's topics and advice that might never continue to be of value if someone didn't bring it back to share with others. I can agree however, that threads that have no substantive information or contain lost photos can be deleted as they don't offer much to share if all the content isn't complete anyway. So my advice, keep the good topics and photos - dump the junk and empty images. BTW - If you think a thread has useless or questionable content, you CAN click on the little flag at the top of each topic and notify the moderators to check it out and delete it if necessary. That's what it's for! -
I'm glad that Dean Jefferies is getting the REAL credit for that car. For many years George Barris took credit for famous custom cars that he never even built. There were other cars that he laid claim as being his, when he had nothing to do with them. I read later that he would buy them afterwards, make minor changes and repaint them and say they were his. What a crook!

Good choices! And they look good too, I've seen your work. Do you think any of those could be offered as wagons too? You're half way there with the 4 doors already in place.

It looks like a 68 or 69 Buick Skylark to me.
