Polar Lights '69 Dodge Charger Funny Car Hot Wheels
Oldcarfan27 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think it was Monogram in the 80s. Does anybody even remember when Mattel owned both Hot Wheels AND Monogram models at the same time? -
I think we're just waiting for more model news. Seems like it's been quite a while since something unexpected was announced.
-
I thought it had to do with licensing costs. To keep prices on the cars at or near a dollar they eliminated opening features first, then started doing freelance designs next (no licensing or copyright issues). Lately, I'm seeing a lot more plastic and less diecast than used to be. I call these "Freak Cars" because they don't look like anything that would ever be driven on the road.

The '63 Corvette was almost a 4-seater...
Oldcarfan27 replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I find the styling integration of four seats done much better in this car than what was done with the Jaguar XKE 2+2. That just looked hideous to me and it got made! Can somebody please POP that pimple before it bursts!! ? -

Yeah and imagine the sunburn on his shiny dome! ? -
Gregg will do anything to get those subscription numbers up! ????

I've always wondered why the huge push for electric, but no research for other alternative "clean burning" fuels. Hydrogen is the cleanest. Put it in a fuel cell and it emits water as it's byproduct. Propane is already in use, why not improve it's use. Chrysler's turbine engine ran on anything. Maybe it's time to reconsider that source.

There, fixed it. Now it makes sense. ??

AMT Ford Courier Pickup. Any good?

Those decals and tinted windows for the shell look great! Now I know I have to get one. I'll use the extra parts to restore my "bombed" original! -
Always loved their opening features! Matchbox were always my favorite. Pocket Cars were second.

Back in the 90s, my friend had some employee friends who could sign us into the park, so we used to go regularly. I've seen so much of the main park that there's no surprises for me anymore. I do have many happy memories of spending time there, so seeing so much has changed leaves me longing for the old days. I miss all the stuff they used to have on Tom Sawyer Island. The fort, the rifle towers, the hidden tunnels, the spinning rock and lots of other things that were removed due to safety and lawsuits. That island was a park in itself!

I'm not familiar with this ride. Sounds like it would've been a fun one. Do you remember the name of it or what year you went on it?
-
According to reports, essentially it was. Problem was, the technology wasn't great, so it kept breaking down. That was the reason it closed after only 5 years in operation. Apparently, it was a very popular ride and is one that is most missed - even today!

While browsing the 'net, I came across sites that reminisced about what is gone from the "Happiest Place on Earth". Share your memories, anecdotes and regrets for what you wish was still there. Here's what I miss: 10. Mission to Mars. Hokey and hopelessly, out-of-date animatronics, but it was a throw back to where Disneyland began. 9. Fort Wilderness. Tom Sawyer Island just isn't the same without this treasure! 8. Sky Buckets. The view of the park was spectacular from here. Too bad they had nothing to replace it. 7. Country Bear Jamboree. This place was just a cool, air conditioned place to relax and take in an amusing little show. 6. Adventure thru Inner Space. By the time I was old enough to remember it without being scared of it - it was gone. 5. People Mover/Rocket ships. A piece of old Disneyland just looming overhead in Tomorrowland, but nothing going on up there. I wish they'd bring them back! 4. Swiss Family Treehouse. Another adventure from my childhood that's not the same anymore. There was always so much for kids to play on and have fun with. 3. Big Thunder BarBQ. Probably one of the best places to eat when it was there. 2. Capt Hook's ship Before my time. But how cool would it have been to have a meal on the ship from Peter Pan! 1. Flying Saucers. This was another attraction from before I was born. But I always wished, that with today's technology, this ride could be rebuilt and be more reliable and as fun as it ever was. What do you remember?

Looks good to me so far, especially the engine details. And considering you just had surgery, even better!

Too cool! Someday I hope to get a 3d printer. Any idea how much the resin refills are?

Motor trend super models
Oldcarfan27 replied to R. Thorne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, I wasn't referring to you specifically. I was just commenting on how so many folks defiantly say they're going to build their old kits however they want to, but get peeved if somebody else glue bombs a kit they don't have. That's the irony! -

Ah, the irony! For years I hear cries of "it's my kit, I'll do as I please", To,"They'll ruin all the old kits!" To that I respectfully reply: "It's their kits, they can do what they want with them. They were meant to be built". None of the kits he used were in any way old, rare or valuable. At least not yet. In 20 years - who knows? At least he's being creative and having fun with them. For that, I admire his work. No different than what we do here. -

Great trade with Rich Costello. Went quickly and smoothly. Got just what I was looking for! Probably too nice a kit to use for my plans, but I'm glad to have it. Thanks again Rich!!

Lindberg 1/20 Scale Kits..... any good?
Oldcarfan27 replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The early Lindbergs were kinda simple in the details. The Stealth was the first and the S10 came out second. The Stealth was an R/T but doesn't include the turbo. Looks good on the shelf. Lo-pro tires are blocky and don't represent the shape of tires with air in them. Later kits, Explorer, Toyota Hilux 4x4 and Jeep Grand Cherokee were much better in terms of detail and tires. Never had the Camaro, Firebird or others, so I can't comment on them. They're usually dirt cheap as they are kinda orphans in the model kit world. If you thought there was "scale-bigotry" between 1/24 and 1/25 builders, nobody even wants to touch these kits. Honestly, I think they'd fit in well with the old MPC 1/20 scale series. -
Captain, I think we've sprung a leak.
-
I've got one of those copies. Good information but even better for all the vintage kits in it!
