If I’m not mistaken, I think they may have been terne plate which was a 60/40 lead/tin coating over a nickel plated base. I believe the sheet or maybe the tank was then hot-dipped so the appearance would likely be similar to galvanized??‍♂️

I am no “pro”, but I am in the paint makes it more realistic camp. That said, you have six of them Laurie, so do a test on one to see what you think of it. JMO.?
