Revell 41 chevy truck
NOBLNG replied to Spruslayer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks pretty good from where I'm sitting. Those wheels do look really good on it! I like the colors too. -
I hear you. I have the same problem with impatience. I too try to get better with each model, but I am not going to lose sleep over incorrect details or proper paint colors. It is after all only plastic. The main thing is to enjoy what you're doing. The paint job on yours looks fantastic!

Excellent job on those tail lights... and the whole car!

I'm getting close now. Still need to attach the delicate cab goodies, wipers, emblems, mirrors, headlights. Also the rear bumper and trailer hitch. Both of the rear bumper gussets snapped almost clean off, so I want to wait until the front bumper glue dries completely before attaching the rear. I am undecided on the hub caps. I would like the white if they were the cake-pan style, but white doesn't suit the domed ones very well? Edit: I think this kit could benefit from an extra set of box mounts at the very back. There is a lot of frame flex when the model is handled after assembly. -

Hi Anthony. I like the weathered look too, I've just never tried it yet. There are 3 colors for the tailgate lettering in this kit. I did try to put the "C" on and it just did not want to stay put where I wanted it to. A little more patience and I might have got it?... then there was the "hevrolet" to follow. I gave up prematurely. Note the little issues I had above and also mask the axle pins and the holes in the wheels if you are not glueing them solid. if you have to sand your paint off them the wheels get really loose and floppy (maybe they are anyways?). My kit came with two complete sets of stock chrome bumpers etc. did yours? -

The kit tail light buckets were just a little tiny to cover the tailgate hinge pins so I wound up making new tail-light buckets out of styrene rod (couldn't find a chunk of sprue quite large enough). I ditched the kit lens since they were way too thick I thought. I counter sunk the new buckets slightly and dabbed in some Model Master stop light red metallic. -

The engine bay is done. Battery cables came from an old cell-phone charging cable. Heater hoses are mechanics wire, hard to work with, but holds it's shape once formed! -

I had some trouble attaching the frame to the body. The floor pan did not want to meet up with the firewall nicely. I had to really squeeze it to get them to meet. Next time EVERYTHING gets a dry fit before any painting goes on. I melted a couple of the prototype tailgate u-clips I had in place temporarily to hold it till the glue dried and then added a couple little straps to beef up the joint. -

I agree. I will be watching this one. I have two of these kits, and the local club is having a 1940's build off. -

Thanks, they are ear-ring making parts from michaels. I also fixed the trailer hitch. I didn't like the little nub of plastic they give you for a ball, so I chucked a finishing nail in my drill and shaped it a bit with a file. A touch of molotow and it looks better. -
This is what I used because I have it. The amber itself is too yellow. I put a little of each in a bottle cap and keep dragging a little orange into the mix until it looks right. The apricot would be a lot cheaper if you don't already have other stuff.

Outstanding! Which kit is this?

I got the glass and the interior installed. The windshield gave me a bit of grief, it doesn't really have a sweet spot that it sits in nicely so I have a slight gap at the top on the passenger side. Luckily the cab overhang hides it pretty well. I used regular cement, as I don't think the clear parts cement I have would hold it in place. Also managed to get the bed decal in and tailgate on. -

I Like it! You need a better spot for the spare tire though. -

My pet peeve is that Testors makes the printing so small on their paints that you can't read the colors. -
Sorry, Not in my book

It looks like JUNK! And I LIKE it! Other than no cover over the transmission I see nothing that makes me think it would be unsafe. It even has roll hoops which makes me think the builder has some sort of an eye towards safety. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and just because something is perceived as ugly doesn't make it unsafe. Practical...definitely not! -
Maybe the moderators should put a sticky in the introduce yourself section that tells newcomers to ASK for feedback in their posts if they are interested in advancing their skills and talents. Most of the members here are very willing and capable of offering constructive help in a non-threatening way if asked.

Maybe there should be a special section for professional or competition builds where everything is expected to be perfect. I personally see things that I don't like or would change on some models, but if I don't have anything nice to say I don't reply. I don't know if the builder has full dexterity and eyesight. Some folks have OCD, some don't. Now if the builder has asked for opinions, that's different. That said, I would encourage everyone to search the tips and tricks section. -
Nice build! My Buddy used to have a '92 NA. Thanks to him, I bought myself a '13 NC PRHT. I LOVE it! It is a real blast to drive.

What did you see on the road today?
NOBLNG replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Saw this parked at the local Partsource. I wish I'd gone and talked to him about it. Gives me an idea for a build! -
Thanks Guys. I think I will Just discard it and add a breather on the valve cover. Yes, the quality does not look to be the best. I will likely fab my own distributor for these engines.

I need something to do while paint and glue dries, so I bought this kit for $5.00. It is complete except for the headlights. The nicest thing about it is that it comes with two complete engines, a 428 and a 351. I am not sure if the 351 is a Cleveland or a Windsor? I have googled both and 1969 Mustang engines and cannot find anything resembling part # 35. Does anybody know what is supposed to be? Thanks, Greg.

Beautiful! I like the color. Were the wooden bed rails in the kit, or did you fab those? The grain on them and the bed are awesome.
