After the L-700 party i got into a big rig fetish and this is the results This has been hands down the nicest kit i have built.Almost everything fit properly, noted problems was the driveshafts, one to long and one to short and the mud flaps on the truck would not fit into the correct place. Basicly OOB with PH wipers, the kit wipers sucked Problems i had include trying to get that huge Coca Cola decal on the side of the trailer to lay into the ribbed sides, after a half of bottle of solvaset it still aint perfect! And the windsheild sun visor is so out of scale but i dident notice untill after it was on Was a fun build, next rig i will do is the Kenworth W 925 and the Revell auto transporter trailer So what ye all think, the good ,bad and the ugly

Beverage trailer
Spruslayer replied to Spruslayer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wasent really putting to much faith in the R2 suggestion but a guy can hope/wish Looking around at whats available right now this might be a place to start -
Hi Round 2!!!!!! Was wondering if there is a kit of a beverage trailer in 1/25 scale The above is a suggestion to R2 for the next branded kit to do Or maybe another trailer that could be bashed into something like this. What ye modelers surmise?

Ill be sending some more stash cash their way for the trailer Thanks for the heads up

I have been thinkin about trying this kit but have yet to stash one My thoughts on the headlight issue is the problem lies with the distance from the top/highest point of the radius on the wheel opening to the bottom of the body. Thats what looks to long to me When i compare a pic of the 1 to 1, the headlight buckets appear to be at about centered on a horizontal line with the top /highest point of the wheel well The build looks awsome Looking forward to seeing it done

I did the Shell version and that thing was a engineering disaster. The front spindles, the cab hinge,Try to make the trailer a short bed....Good luck I do love the subject but that kit should have never been released in its current form and expect someone to build a decent model with what comes in the box. For me the fun of the kit was trying to fix all the train wreck engineering.

What do you do with your built kits?
Spruslayer replied to Spitfire's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me being only one and a half years in this hobby some of the kits are displayed in the living room but none of them are car/truck kits. My master plan for the cars /trucks is a diorama including a gas station and a replica of a drive-in restaurant that was a cruising hangout for us in the early 70s called Frischs Big boy. -
What Are You Building Today?
Spruslayer replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Compared to the Dodge L-700 i just did for TAT, this kit is giving me the warm fuzzies the way everything is properly designed to fit OOB with no Mikieengineering needed -

Dodge L700 with dump body
Spruslayer replied to dshue76's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Doug, the method you describe for the spindles is kinda like what i did but my fix dident fix it.What you did to the rear axle to adjust the ride height is the same thing i did but i dident move it back.I did the short bed of the Shell tanker and between adjusting the truck ride height and the trailer ride height i got it acceptable looking, also the Shell tanker model of this kit cannot be built in the short bed version with whats in the box, there is no place to put the landing legs if you follow the instructions.I added 1.22" to make it 20 scale feet long .the tilting cab hinge was another scratch fix needed in that kit. Looking forward to seeing this come together -

Lookin good Doug I did the Shell tanker version and it was a nitemare! Dose the front axel spindles stay attached and turn without falling off? Even after i tried to fix that issue i wound up gluing it so it wont turn Fun kit none the less -

TAT L-700 & Tanker

Jim,you way to kind, and thanks to everyone for the encouragement to keep moving on even when i feel seconds away from turning a kit into tiny shards of broken plastic If i may throw a little rookie rant in this not specifically about this kit only but about the kits i have built in the16 months i have been back into it. A little background first,in my glory days i was a handle crank-in machinist schooled the old way before CNC took over.I did some injection mold work so i have a kinda fogy idea what if any flaws in the mold should slide by and which defects get fixed.Concerning the L-700,how in the world can someone let a design like the front spindles on the tractor fly,the other option that could cover this is that the mold is so old and wore out that when it was new all the parts fit and worked properly, but i dont think that is the case here.Another one that gets me as you really dont get exactly what you see on the box cover. The one that was the worst of this offence was the masterbox pinup girl, the one posing on a jeep hood.Yes,you get a girl figure in a sitting pose but in a totally different look. The cover photo of the L-700 Shell tanker did not have the cab side mount turn singles on it and to me,not to be to critical, the model used for the box top is not very well done. Not saying i could do better but i know i have seen many here that would do a far better job. Theres more but im starting to boar myself But ya know i did enjoy the challenge to turn the L-700 into a somewhat presentable form and i have amassed a small stash to keep me finding suprises for a long time to come Fair well for now and Model on -
TAT L-700 7-8 trailer done
Spruslayer replied to Spruslayer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The trailer is done.Adding the extra 1.22 " wasn't as bad as i thought it would be but i ran into trouble when i tried to use 2 different brands of paint that did not play well together. So cheers to this one More pics in the under glass -
I have reached the the end of this glue bomb disaster and my figurative rope on this one. Unless im a complete ID10T there is no way to build the tanker trailer in the short bed version straight out of the box.I put it at 20 scale feet by adding 1.22" in length. Allthough i do love the Dodge l-700 i wouldn't recommend this kit unless you are willing to spend all the extra time involved in fixing many flaws in this kit, most notable is the tractor front wheel spindles, and then there was the cab hinge, fixing the ride height of the tractor,i could go on but im sure most of you know all to well about this kit. So,without further adu My TAT Dodge L-700 and tanker trailer
