  1. I'm new to all this and tried to get one last year when I first started this hobby. I love prototype cars and I think this might be the most detailed of them all. I'm not ready for it yet but it looks cool and when I have the skills to detail it out, it will look great on my desk. Funny thing though.. I think there is a Tamiya Nissan Prototype that sells new for $18 that is just as detailed...
  2. Yep.. 100 new cases in Florida over night.. we're all gonna dieeeee... at least that is how the news makes it sound.
  3. I built my first two models back to back when I was about 20 in the early 90s.. Saw some magazines on the subject as was blown away by how realistic people were making them. I always wanted to come back to the hobby but life got in the way. Thirty years later, here I am. Back then I built one of the Trans Am Mustangs and an Indy car. I want to build race cars now but can't find them new. Fortunately many people still sale these older kits in new condition. However, as a newbie, I have realized that for me at least... Tamiya is where I need to focus for now. I realized it this week. Their kits are perfect for those like me without much experience because they fit together so easily and everything is drawn out very clear in the instructions.. plus they supply their own paint colors that match perfectly to the instructions and the car I build can look just like the box art. I remember getting my first model at around 8 or 9 and after opening the kit I was disappointed in how much it didn't look like the box art. I had no desire to build it. It was even molded in an ugly brown and the green, testors paint I applied to the body with a cheap paint brush looked terrible. I find other kit makers to be a little frustrating because they don't fit all that well. As my skills increase I look forward to building these others but for now I want to build every Tamiya racing kit, box stock, that I can find. Road race cars are my favorite but I also like drag cars, sprint cars and Nascars. I also want to build Ferraris but after I'm satisfied with my race car building skills.
  4. Nice.. I have the Revell version.. may have to build this one after to compare
  5. The first vehicle I remember my dad driving was a truck around this time.. looked just like it, even same color only it was a step side. I've always loved this truck.
  6. Every time I hear a news report on the Corona Virus I start hearing this song in my head: ...honey we got your disease...You're in the jungle baby You're gonna die In the jungle, welcome to the jungle
  7. I had something similar happen when I won two Sprint car kits for a great price and a day later they said they accidentally shipped it to someone else and refunded my money. I made a note not to buy from them again since they had a lot of kits and other things for sale.
  8. Check it out at 16:42 if it doesn't automatically start there. It looks lighter on the video.. almost looks like chrome when he starts turning it.
  9. I don't have any but saw a video of a build Andy did at Andy's Hobby Shop YT channel and the Light Gunmetal was one of the best silver colors I have seen. I have a can at home and need to find a kit to use it on. Saw another YT video recently with a Zero Paints silver that looked equally as good but different.
  10. I'll be curious to hear what you find out about the Circuit machine.
  11. Yeah, sounds like he only decants enough for what he is going to shot right away.
  12. Thanks all.. I'm a big fan of @Zoom Zoom as I have read several of his articles, etc. and we have similar tastes in model cars. I was planning on following his advice. He says it doesn't take long for the decanted Tamiya paint to be ready to spray: https://public.fotki.com/grdeyed/model_cars-1/decanting-spray-paint/
  13. Thanks Mike.. that SMS paint looks like a great deal if shipping is not too much. Does anyone know what size the Splash paints are? I couldn't find it on their website. Just spent a couple hundred bucks at scalehobbyist for paint and supplies along with four nicely priced racing kits. I've got enough Tamiya and Mr. Color to last me a little while but will give these recommended paints a try as the need arises.. hopefully I'm set for the bulk of my supplies and will only need a little here and there from now on.
  14. Great job.. It's looking really good!
  15. Good find Pete.. I'm surprised these are not more available
  16. That's some detail Steve and nice work. Looks like your building a 1:1 car.
  17. got these two.. our last local hobby store is going out of business and I got them half off. Both original and sealed in box and I haven't opened them yet. The Petty 1/16 was $25.
  18. Doesn't appear to be any.. Maybe I need to talk to some of the ladies at work who have Circuit machines.
  19. It would seem to me that it would be easier, less expensive and more authentic to use a stencil for model racing tires. I can't find any, does anyone have a source?
  20. Saw a video on YT where a guy was showing how to detail chrome wheels. When he was done shooting dull coat on one wheel there was enough dull coat everywhere around the wheel to do about 10 more wheels.. all wasted. Plus the wheels were too wet.
