Transtar 4300

Some more progress. -
Reading this response I assume you don't know Art personally, or even by reputation. If you did, you'd not question his credibility. I know him personally, and I can tell you without question that I don't know anyone else who is as knowledgeable about automobile history or model car history than Art.

This is just awesome ! To think that back in 77 I would have scoffed at this car, but now I do think they are very cool.

Transtar 4300

Wheels and tires. One more to go so you can see what I started with. I bought the wheels from American Industrial models. They are really nice, very lightweight resin pieces, and I got them in a week! Great product and service from this guy. -

Youthfullness
Jeff Johnston replied to blackace183's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I sure wish more kids built models and enjoyed the hobby. Kids around here keep us all young. Let's not chase this nice kid away by jumping all over him for grammatical errors. Ya'll sound like a bunch of old farts LOL (and I resemble that remark haha) Build and have fun Nick. We're glad to have you here. Spelling and grammar do matter in life...a lot. But not so much on a model car forum :-) -
This you've gotta see....
Jeff Johnston replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ugh...this I did not have to see LOL -
Those who cannot take constructive criticism on their models will never be better modelers. I welcome it... Sometimes even as gingerly as you (not you as in you...in general, anyone) try to point out something a modeler can or might want to re-think the next time, people still get offended. I have a model builder I work with. He builds ships...all kinds of ships. I showed him a picture of my Titan 90 and how I was rusting it. He quickly pointed out that the way I was doing it wasn't how something would actually rust. It was actually where I didn't put the rust that he pointed out..and he was right..and I learned something..and I did not get offended.

I made it a point to stray from my norm this year, and not built muscle car after muscle car. I built a Semi Truck, Ford Focus, 53 Ford, a Midget Racer, a WRX and 2 muscle cars. For what I learned, I started using chalk pastels to weather chassis, etc. What I keep trying to learn is not to rush Every year I get a little better at that..LOL

Maybe GM should bring back Pontiac?
Jeff Johnston replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly my point as well. Really I can't see why they could not do Trans Am's in limited quantity in the same plant, and on the same line as the Camaro. -
Maybe GM should bring back Pontiac?
Jeff Johnston replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, I've thought about this and I don't understand why GM couldn't offer out a Pontiac Trans-Am, based on the Chevy Camaro. Think about it, GM owns the Pontiac name. Why would they not be able to offer cars based on a Chevy or Buick as a Pontiac. This Trans-Am is beautiful and basically a really well done body on the Camaro SS. Maybe a different, more "Trans-Am-esqe" dash.... I guess I don't get why GM could not offer select Pontiac cars, if only by name, Nobody wants a "Chevrolet Trans-AM". But that's basically what it is....so why not call it a Pontiac and sell it at Chevy dealers? -
Hmmm... I left there many years ago because they has some crazy strict moderators. I saw one chastise a 12 year old for his "poor use of English". it was in the rules that members have to use proper English, which in and of itself isn't a bad rule, nor am I opposed to strict moderation The issue was that the kid was from Estonia ! For a pre-teen Russian kid, I thought his English was pretty darned good.. I can't even remember the moderator name, or the kid's name for that matter, but that pretty much of did it for me. Great way to chase a kid away from the hobby, or at the very least make him feel bad. Bye Bye BMC. Don't let the door hit you in the can on the way out. I do hope we do see more of Alex over here though. I always had a lot of admiration for his work.

This was built for a friend to capture the memory of the car he drove in high school. He insisted I build it using the AMT 72 Kit, even though its a tough and rather archaic tool. I did use the Revell 1969, 396 ci engine, and used the Revell steelies and COPO caps as well. I used JS Hobby paint and I love that stuff. Cleared with 2 part Urethane.

Very nice to see you back Ismael, and also to see your excellent work. I thought of you several times recently as I am building the 1992 Corvette Convertible

Jeff Johnston replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually that's a nice looking Caddy...real nice. -
Bodacious Tatas coming our way?
Jeff Johnston replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
hahahaha come guys you disappoint me. Is that all you have to say about a car called the Nano Tata ? I can't think if anything witty to say either other than I prefer the Grande Tata over the Nano Tata. . -
Cadillac "Volt" coming...
Jeff Johnston replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
LOL A Caddy Volt...gotta be 60K if the Volt is 40K. Ummm...yeah. no thank you. -
thanks guys. Actually the car does sit on all 4 wheels. In this pic the car is sitting at a weird angle on the white paper background that I have under it, and it lifted the wheel off the ground. Here is a pic on a different background where its sitting level. It would drive me too nuts to call a car done if it did not sit on all 4 wheels

This was kit bashed with the 70 AMT kit because of the better suspension and engine bay on the 70. I had to cut the engine bay off the 70 body and graft it on to the 76. This is exactly the car I had from August 1984 until April 1986, until the floorboards rotted away. I weatherd the engine bay and chassis to what it would have been when I got it. The body was always good and looked good...it was under the car that rotted away... traded this for a 78 Trans Am..

New Jaguar F-Type
Jeff Johnston replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Agreed. I have not seen this design until now. I definitely take back my statement of lightning already striking on the E-type. That is a beautiful car. -
New Jaguar F-Type
Jeff Johnston replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love it. I think the modern Jaguars are some of the nicest cars out there. Everyone wants to compare every new Jaguar sports car to an E-Type and that's silly because NOTHING will ever be an e-type. That lightning struck 40 somethin' years ago !
