Will do, thanks Steve... I'll put them on my want list. Man that list is getting long LOL...

Thanks for the info on that one Steve, at least I will know what to expect. I almost bought a 1:1 57 Cadillac about 30 years ago and have always regretted not buying it. As long as the kit is build able I want one. I've always wanted to build a kit of it...

Nice, I want the Jungle Jim cars and that 57 Cadillac. I like a few of those trucks too. Thanks for sharing...

I was wondering the same thing LOL.... My spray booth is 2 plastic totes glued together with a filter and vent out the back of the bottom tote. I have a bilge fan hooked on it and vent it out the window. If I would have mounted some stuff differently it could definitely be portable.

I try to get an hour a day and just do a couple things, I build multiple kits at once so I can do a little on each during my hour. Only exception is I get a lot more vacation time than my wife so when I'm off and she isn't I'll spend a lot of time at the bench... -

Monogram 55 Chevy Street Machine Magneto

ok I got it, so I could put a regular distributor in it but I have noticed the kit doesn't have an alternator so I would have to add one some how to properly change over. -

ok cool, so it should come out of the top but the side of that top piece, Thanks.... -
I'm in the process of updating a build I did about 35 or 40 years ago. I built it long before I knew of anything but Testors products for building but had a fantastic paint job for my knowledge then. So I decided to rehab it using the original paint job and just rebuild it using BMF and adding some detail like plug wires and such. I noticed on the engine that it has a magneto rather than a standard distributor but I have no knowledge about them at all, would it normally just have plug wires out of the top of it just like a regular distributor? Pic of the magneto on the directions (#10) and a pic of the car before the start of the rehab.

NASCAR 80's Coil position
SCRWDRVR replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good point that makes sense, I guess I could replicate either about the same way since I wouldn't be putting those wires on. -
You could possibly find a color in paint like this to use also, I've used the Dupli-color beige for a kit interior before worked good I thought.

NASCAR 80's Coil position

Ok Cool, thanks for the info. I would bet even after they went to duel coils then that the switching was done outside the engine compartment and had something like that. I think I will work on making something to copy that then. Thanks a bunch guys... -

Ok, so I guess the wire on the other side runs to the coil then? -

Ok I guess I’ll just have to see if I figure out when they went from single coils to duel coils... -

Thanks guys, interesting on that 77 the coil is still stuck in the firewall to keep it out of the heat.... On the dash hmmm I guess it would still have to go though the fire wall too, definitely opens up the possibilities, I wonder when they went to fuel injection I would think the coil change would have been close to the same time... -

Could you post that pic of Earnhardt’s car so I could get a look at it... -
I am currently building the Salvino's Tim Richmond 27 LeMans. I usually never add plug wires on the cup cars just because of lack of space but decided to give it a shot on this one. I was looking for engine bay pictures but had no luck finding any or finding where the coil was located on that generation of cars GM, Ford or Chrysler. Anyone have a pic showing it or know where they were located back then?

It is a shame and I think most of us have done some version of it at one time or another, I know I stopped building about 15 years ago when I was moving and all my built and complete kits were boxed and moved but all my part for the most part were trashed which just makes me so sad today not that I'm back building. I had built for a long time before that and had boxes upon boxes of parts but I'm starting to get a parts stash again but sadly just newer kit parts.... -
Congrats Steve Guthmiller

Congrates Steve, Very well deserved your builds are master pieces... -
I have been wanting to stop in the hobby town but keep thinking it will be like a lot of the chains and focus on the RC cars, I’ve seen the one in Seaford have never had a chance to stop in. There are a few there I have never heard of but honestly when I lived outside of Wilmington I just always went to Simpsons
-
I didn't see this before, there is a place in Wilmington called Simpson's hobbies. The carry a fair amount of kits but a lot less them they did years ago, I was there right before Christmas for the first time in a long time as I'm about an hour away now and used to live a lot closer but if you want to check them out they are at 709 Foulk Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803 and are a small mom and pop shop. I saw after I added this that you find them, it's the only one in DE that I know of.

Unfortunately there need for better safety as well as there want to control every detail have made the cars what they are. I would love to see them go back to a stock bodied car and restrict it so it wouldn’t be faster than say 100 mph to keep them safe..
