  1. Dave...thanks for reminding me. I do ocassionally use lacquer thinner in my Tamiya acrylics...usually to tone down a gloss to a semi gloss or just to make them dry quicker. . You mention heat flashing and I have never heard of that. Many times I leave my sprayed parts in front of my space heater...about a foot away. Leaving them in a warm stream of air helps them dry a lot quicker. I have one of those small ceramic heaters...several of them as a matter of fact. I do decals in front of them as they are not too hot. Is this what you meant by heat flashing.
  2. If your decals are not completely dry it will wrinkle them. About 2-3 days. Go mist coats (2-3) and not too heavy on the final coat and you should be OK. X-22 dries to touch quickly but still takes 30 days to fully cure. It is rock hard when cured and takes some effort to polish. Its best thinned with X-20 thinner. Best finish over metallic paints like gold and silver.
  3. Very impressive. The engine weathering and interior really caught my eye. Can't wait til this kit shows up on this side of the pond. This build makes me want one even more.
  4. High speed Dremel bits do have a taste for plastic....that's a fact. At least you have a fix in mind.
  5. Steve,,,this is top notch as was your last one. Curious as to what you used for the red. I used Tamiya TS-36 flourescent red on mine. Your paint is excellent so this is no criticism.
  6. True inspiration for me Thomas. I have this kit and been dying to start it. I bought this for my Martini collection so that is how it will be. Your chassis work is amazing and i will follow the rest with great interest. Thanks for posting it
  7. Gary....thanks for putting this up as a WIP. I will be following closely as I have one of these in my stash (untouched) Never thought the price would go so high but as per usual, I don't care since I had always planned to build it anyway. This WIP may be just the incentive so thanks again Gary for the post and the plug.
  8. As an F-1 fan it is always nice to see one done. Decals and paint are spot on...great job.
  9. John...thank you for the wonderful post and kind words. I think we could commiserate all day on the shortcomings of this kit. You and I suffered the same problems and then some. If I did this kit over there are many areas that would see improvement. My LHS has another and believe me I am tempted. Its not really a bad kit, as a matter of fact its very nice. Certainly not un-buildable. But problem areas,if taken care of, would have made this a more satisfying build. I was very fortunate to be able to see Clark race four times at Watkins Glen. ( 63,64,65,66). He was spectacular.
  10. Andy...thanks for chiming in. Always appreciate the extra information you provide, which is spot on every time.
  11. Excellent model, Gary, of a rare kit. The background information was most appreciated. Thanks for putting this up.
  12. Mark...followed this from the very beginning. Been a great journey. This is truly a museum quality masterpiece. I have seen many of your other works and I think this is your best yet. Congratulations on a job well done.
  13. That is one outstanding model Bruce. Attention to detail everywhere (luv the engine) Four years to build...huh? Works of art do take a long time and this is no exception.
  14. An interesting collaboration between Tamiya and Ebbro ...the Lotus 33 in 1/20 scale. This is the car that took Jimmy Clark to the 1965 World Championship. Kit was very good quality but was a little bit fussy at the end. Color is Tamiya TS-9 British Racing Green. Built mostly stock with some wiring and plumbing added. See picture captions for additional comments on this build. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Engine detail without the covers on. Lots of fussy intricate details here. I sprayed most of the chrome semi-gloss clear. Kit chrome was too shiny for my taste. Turned exhaust pipes in carb inlets came in the kit. A very nice touch. Interior was sparse but what was there was well detailed. 1965 F-1 cars were that way...note the absence of seat belts. Common in those days. Finished model. Body fit could have been better but the overall look came out OK Another rear end shot. Pipes do not exit straight out the back. Might have been my fault when assembling the exhaust. It was easy to get wrong. I have see formula cars with exhasut pipes this way so maybe its OK. Two trouble areas for me were the fit of the engine cover and the windscreen. I originally tried to glue the screen in place but it looked horrible. Much cleaning and touch=up later I decided to pin it in place. There are 8 tiny pins much like on the real car. Aaaahh..much better. Interesting comparison between the Lotus 33 and the car that preceded it...the Lotus 25. The two cars have much in common but the 33 was much modified to accept a different engine (Coventry Climax FWMV) and the wider tires. The 33 was much faster and Jimmy Clark proved it by winning 6 times out of 10 races.
  15. Wow...Ray built something other than a Cobra....and did a darn good job too.
  16. That's a tough kit to get right with all those decals, but I think you nailed it pretty good.
  17. Atin, this is one of Tamiya's first 1/24 kits and it definetly had issues, especially the windshield. I built this kit twice and finally managed to get a decent model out of it. Your skills as a modeler show as you were able to overcome a lot of these problems first time out. Great job...I like it.
  18. I think you are quite up to the decal and paint challenge Paul. Looks good to me.
  19. That is a really sweet job on that kit Anders. The color, fit and finish are all perfect. Great job.
  20. Dave...it is more than likely we have the same kit. The resin looked the same and there was a lot of fitting to be done. I have a couple of Bill Jorgensens resin kits and will check at my end. Just curious. Wouldn't be surprised if I was mistaken. Your conversion is looking great BTW. Can't wait to see it finished. Keep up the good work.
  21. Been awhile since I checked in on you John. You are really knocking this one out of the park. This is going to be museum quality. Keep up the great work.
  22. Looks good Ray, what are you planning for the black trim on the body.?
  23. Dann....great to have you back and see you back art the bench. We missed you.
  24. Spectacular build Pierre. Attention to detail everywhere. I especially like the engine and undercarriage....sooooo good.
