Sunoco Camaro
Rich Chernosky replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Anton, dug out my Rain-X Camaro and took some pictures. Didn't realize how much I had done on this. Chassis and basic roll bars were glued together. this allows the body pieces to be fitted. On this build I used a .70mm drill and some .65mm wire. The wires were glued into the chassis and cut shorter. The body on mine fits very well and i will be able to slip it over these pins. On the Sunoco I used a .45mm wire which was softer and easier to bend. I converted my sizes to metric for you. I captioned the pictures for you to get a better idea. Overall body fit on mine was excellent. Youi can barely see the three small holes I drilled. Close up of the pins inserted and the drill and wire i used. Body sits just above the chassis. This part of the body will be covered in black decals and these holes will not show. And it will make the assembly much better as i will not have to glue the body on. Bottom veiw of my chassis with the side plates glued on and body slipped over the pins. Also note the steering...also drilled and pinned. Hope all this helps. You are an excellent modeler. I am sure you can get your existing body to fit. -

This is a project that has been too long in the works and I figured it was about time to finish it. Color is Tamiya TS-49 Bright red. Interior is Tamiya LP30 nLt Sand and the dark brown accent is LP59 Nato brown. A great kit and I really liked it. I was fortunate when I bought it that the photo etch set (by Fujimi) came with it. They were a lot of fussy work but in the end well worth it it. Other than the hood (mine was slightly warped) the kit went together very well. Captions below the pictures tell the rest of the story. Thanks for looking and comments are always appreciated. I chose to go two tone on the seats. Seat belts and hardware cam with the PE set. The seatbelt material was easy to work with and looked extra nice. The engine had quite a bit of detail. The stick on chrome emblems really set it off. Rear end detail, some nice PE screens and more stick on chrome emblems. The egg crate grill was a very fussy PE item but when done was nicer that the kit chromed grill. Last thing to go on was the chrome Cavallino. Very delicate. Kit had poseable doors if you added the glue on latch piece. I re-engineered the body to accept this so I could display them closed also. The shiny round thing to the left is a magnet that holds the doors closed. They fit very well. Wanna go for a ride....keys are in it. Finished car on its wheels. Stance was just right. Body took some patience but eventually snapped into place. Rear view shows the graceful lines of the car. Phot etch wheel centers and Ferrari emblem were PE items and a nice touch. Pininfarina emblem and door lock were also included. I wound up drilling two #77 hole through the corners of the hood and added some wire aligning pins to help hold it in place. Tjhen touched up the paint. It did the trick and was easier than the magnet solution. Thanks for following.

Dave...this has to be your crowning achievement. What a magnificent model. Congratulations on a job well done. -
Welcome to the forum. If you are going to persue this hobby a dedicated workspace with a paint booth is an absolute must. You are definetly on the right track. What kind of models are you interested in. ?

John...you did a tremendous amount of work on those funnels and they look great. Well worth your efforts as they will be one of the first things seen. !/12 kits are rewarding when but attention to detail is paramount if you are to create a masterpiece. And you are well on your way. The WIP posts are also a lot of work and we appreciate those too.

Rob...thank you for the kind words and the great picture of one of these cars in action. I think most modelers really enjoy complaining. It makes them feel like they are actually accomplishing something. (or have) This is not the first forum I have been on and I have always felt the purpose of the forums was to promote the hobby. Complaining for the sake of complaining is a waste of time and can discourage people. Pointing out problems and how you overcame them is a different story. And I always help when asked. Thanks again -

Bruce..Nice looking livery...I like it. Every once in awhile you get a kit where the body is so nice no paint is needed. Why try and fix it when its not broken. I v'e done a few, my Gunze Hi Tech Jaguar convertible comes to mind. -

Tim...I went to racing school there in the early 60's. That was the old track and I don't remember the name of the school. We didn't learn much racing Formula Vee's that could barely make it up through the esses. It was still fun. Military sent me to Texas International for terrorist evasion training. We used Formula Fords and Lincoln Limo's plus early Mustangs. Much better. About 15yrs ago I got to go around WG in a friends Ferarri. We hit 168mph through the traps on the front straight. We still got passed twice. That was great. -
That is one outstanding Ferrari , luv the paint and interior.

Thanks Gary....sometimes a project has to sit in the box until the skills ,materials or tools are in place. This was one of those. Approximately 10=15% of my collection is diecast too. -

AMT Piranha Super Spy Car - Original Art Series
Rich Chernosky replied to ea0863's topic in Model Cars
Nice to see this kit built. You did a great job. Recently pulled mine out and its ready for painting. I have the PE kit for it and the hinges and some magnets should solve the door problem. They don't fit too badly. I have had the original AMT kit for years as a glue bomb. Also just finished a Corvair project so I have plenty to spruce up the engine. Hope mine turns out as nice as yours. -

Pierre, what a beautiful conversion. All the trouble you went to and the changes you made certainly paid off. Well done...very well done. Did you know how Fireball Roberts got his nickname ? He was a baseball pitcher in high school and his fastball pitch was so fast it was called a "fireball" .
