Revell Ford GT Lemans 2017

Ray, that is a real nice kit and you are off to a great start. Built mine a couple years back and had no problems. Yours should go the same. -
Here are two more from my collection. Both models are 1/28 scale and are made by Mitsuwa of Japan. This company made several Le Mans racers and all used the same battery powered chassis. While considered mostly a toy the bodies were reasonably accurate. there were 8 total in the line (I have all of them built) but only these two were Lemans winners. The Matra MS670. Matra Equip would win Lemans in 1972, 73 and 74. Paint is Humbrol French blue. The Porsche 917KH of Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann won the race in 1970. I had to hand cut the white graphics from white vinyl tape as the ancient decal sheet graphics could not be saved. I did mange to save the sponser decals but they haven't stood the test of time much better.

This is the last of the Revival kits in my stash. I was told this was one of their easier kits. After doing almost all of their line I was ready for something easy. Shouold have known better. It was anything but. The results are nice but getting there is an engineering challenge. this one is the Auto Union Type C , 16 cylinder rear engine car Bernd Rosemeyer drove in 1936/37. Kit features all metal construction with screws, real wire wheels and working steering and suspension. Once done there is a certain amount of satisfaction. More info in the picture captions. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Gotta take a picture of the chassis as it is a model all by itself. This is a mock up because the reas suspension had to be removed to get the body on. And suffice to say after all the fit problem and two days of swear words, it was not coming back off. Fitted body in the background. Engine cover and front cover are removable and fit fairly well...about the only thing that did. Front suspension looks a lot like VW. Getting it assembled and getting it to work was something else. This si where all that effort pays off...aaaahh..the finished car. There are 16 of those tiny tubes that fit on top of the exhaust headers. Getting them all to line up......Engine cover fits better than in the photo. This side view. There was lots of plumbing under the front engine cover. This is where the radiators and expansion tank are located. All of them had to be bent just so. Interior turned out nice. Thanks again for looking.

That is a great kit and your detailing and finish have done it justice.

!979 winner, Porsche 935 (K3). Kit is by Platz NuNu. Drivers were Don and Bill Whittington and Klaus Ludwig. Interesting because they beat all the sports prototypes. The Whittington's went on to later fame when it was discovered where their aviation company got its money. More information on this build as it was posted here:

A Lemans presentation wouldn't be compl;ete with out the famous Ford GT-40 1-2-3 finish. Here they are. All Fujimi kits finsihed in the last 10 years. The eventual winner was declared as the Mclaren/Amon #2 car by virtue of it starting 20 meters behind the #1 car of Ken Miles/Denny Hulme. Third place went to Dick Hutcherson/Ronnie Bucknum in the #5 car. Ken Miles was 4 laps ahead in the final stages of the race when he was pulled in for a brake rotor change. He came back in with a brake vibration because the rotors fitted had not been bedded in. His rotors were given to the #2 car. He was also given orders for the photo finish at this time. All this caused the #1 car to lose most of its lead. When they eventually slowed they were on the same lap and the rest is history. The famous dead heat finish. Just before the checker flag both drivers gunned their cars with Mclaren showing a very slight lead. All the drivers were told this would be a dead heat finish but the sanctioning body changed its mind at the last minute and awarded the win to the #2 car. I know this was supposed to be limited to 1/24 but I couldn't resist sharing the same photo with these A/FX Tomy slot cars.

Helmut..that is one tough livery to get right. I had to paint the purple on my Tamiya kit. But you got this one. Both builds look great. -

Looks good Helmut..you did a masterful job. Ken Miles should have been the winner....he was well in the lead when they gave the order for the photo finish, -
