Other good Tamiya kits
Sandboarder replied to johnfin's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If only Bandai made cars. Tamiya have the cleanest car kits I’ve seen. The Hakosuka Skyline has a curb side and a full detail version which come with photo etch pieces. -
Other good Tamiya kits

+1 to using this site to see what’s in the box for the Tamiya, Aoshima and Fujimi kits. -
@Can-Con when some one post a new kit they have purchased. Probably bought online and waited to open the parcel and then they are excited to show off their new find (probably because it’s not a kit that you see every day) The last thing any one wants is some body pointing out everything wrong with their new purchase. Let’s keep this forum positive. Maybe next time @Casey could say “you don’t see that kit very often, it has a chopped roof. If you want to read more I can share a link” instead of saying “Uh-oh” because not everyone cares if the casting is 100% correct.

Ummm I think that was deliberate mate. OPs version must want the chopped roof. Stop counting rivets when he hasn’t even opened the box. It’s not encouraging and puts people off of the hobby.

I like your plan for this one. What wheels are they? Aoshima’s? I’m keen to see how you get the ride height so low.

Wow! The new pillars look great. the extended roof looks better IMO but also looks very tricky

I have no experience with the Sharpies. Are they durable?? I know most people put their models is some sort of display case but I like to touch mine (and play with them)

Aoshima "Liberty Walk" Huracan
Sandboarder replied to Justin Porter's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah their the kits tires. The rears are huge, very wide! So far the mock up needed no glue. Only 1 piece of tape. Very easy to wheel swap and customise these Aoshima kits. Easily the best instruction manual I’ve seen in a model kits. Also have stickers, decals and I think there was some extra stuff in their too. Great kit!! -
Awesome build!!! I really like the yellow and the stance. The panel lines and the glass (headlight tint and did you clear the windows?) just make this hatch pop. feel free to add some more pics so we can see all the details from every angle.

Who needs a modern alternative when the good BMF is out of production and the current range is inferior. We’ll just stick to brush painting our silver enamel paints from the glory days.

Aoshima "Liberty Walk" Huracan

I opened mine about 5 minutes ago and was greeted by this full colour manual With some aftermarket wheels I had a mock up. Needless to say this will be getting build as soon as Winter ends here. -
Shake it a lot, and then shake it some more. The tip of the marker needs to be fully soaked in the chrome for it to work. My first impression was the same, it’s BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. Then I tried it again a few days later and the more I used it, the better the results get.

Pretty sure there’s lots of different build section of this forum not just the cars as a majority of the comments come back to. There is Trucks, Racing, Sci-fi and Dioramas The majority of participating forum members are into cars. The other builders don’t seem to frequent threads posted in the general area, only what’s in the WIP or under glass sections. Well at least that’s what I’ve noticed in the conversations on here.

Gunpla or Gundam’ is as old as Star Wars. There is currently a cool 40 year anniversary with limited release kits etc. the kits can be moulded in any colour you can think of, glow in the dark, clear with glitter, gloss, flat, fluorescent colour. These are all press for or snap kits with pretty much mould line and zero flash. The most recent TV series has a theme like Pokémon or Yu-go-oh or Beyblades. All of those can attract a youths attention. The Games Workshop and Citadel line of miniatures appeal to a different audience. They have a range of books for the lore behind each faction and the story telling side of the fantasy universe. Then there’s the fact you can play the game with your models, it’s basically a faint board game. So you can see these 2 genres appeal the completely different audiences or to the open minded builder.

Don’t forget about price and availability. When I was young (1990s) I could go to my local Kmart (department store) and there was an whole isle dedicated to Revell and AMT model kits (I think there was boats and planes too) and the kits were $20 AUD Now I have to drive 2-3 hours to look in a specialist Hobby shop which has a smaller range (about 1/2 - 1/4 what Kmart Hadid the 90s) and the same kits have a price tag of $60-80 AUD. Then there is points mentioned above. Today people want instant gratification. Waiting for paints and glues to dry doesn’t fit with the busy fast pace social media and life style expectations. I wouldn’t even blame video games as there are more people watching games being played on YouTube or twitch then kids actually playing themselves. Again it’s the price that not everyone can afford video games so they watch instead.

What bottle paint to use?
Sandboarder replied to Spooky 52's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For water based acrylics? Citadel paints -
Awesome mode!! The build looks just as they do in 1:1!! I really like your colour choice and the wheels and extra details make it pop

Here is a more recent thread that I think covers everything with more current information;

Great idea!! The wagon is a great base with the tail gate and 1/2 of the tray. Your chop looks well planned up and a good choice. 5 stud MK 1 are a good choice very Japanese while retaining a classic centreline look.
