AMT kits suck!
Sandboarder replied to Plumcrazy Preston's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While this is true and many expect people to use the forum as a database or library. With a little look there is an endless amount of information. Reality is youth wants instant answers and turn to sources like Facebook for a quick answer. In a modern world we need to look after youth and teach them where to go to find the right information. -
AMT kits suck!

I have basic knowledge of this but to be honest some moulds need attention before a new owner should use them. I’m what you consider to be new in the hobby with my experience being on and off for the last 25 years. New people in the hobby aren’t interested in history and just want to enjoy the experience of building a model. So while many accept that the kit has been around and the moulds are old, a new comer won’t know this and will have a higher standard. Therefore they’ll think the same kit isn’t worth the effort and money. If you guys don’t want this hobby’s to die, you will realise you need new builders and forum members to keep your beloved hobby alive. So instead of being so harsh on them, explain the history, don’t post dead horse meme’s, try to offer them suggestions of better kits rather then post impossible to find, horrible kits from the past. If you find it offensive be part of the solution instead of getting bend out of shape. +1 This is what I mean, we need to move forward and progress. We have guys making their own decals and 3D drawing and printing parts. Yet so much of the hobby is stuck in a time capsule. While supporting our favourite brands we need to encourage them to lift their game and produce better products. haha big boys ay? Not everyone one here is acting like it!! -
AMT kits suck!

Ok so I’ve read most of this thread and I’m going to throw my 2 cents in. So I’m talking to Plumcrazy Preston as it seems the majority here are AMT fan boys. From my experience AMT kits have a softer plastic and usually have loose fitting location pins and more flash then other brands. Ive built old Revell kits that are just as bad. I’ve built new AMT and Revell kits (from the last 12 years) that I felt weren’t good enough. Now that opinion is base on the price paid for the quality of product. Of all the kits I’ve built not many can be built without test fitting most parts before painting. Lots of stuff needs sanding and extra work to locate parts. So I would build 2-3 kits from each manufacturer before you choose to stay away from a brand. Not everyone wants to put in that extra work and I’ve seen threads on here discussing why builders are turning to different subjects like planes, tanks or Gunpla. Maybe it’s to do with the kits quality and the enjoyment those builders are getting from those kits/subjects of model. I feel that everyone here should hold any model kit manufacturer to a higher standard if they are just pumping out kits of a 60 year old mould. They’ve made enough money off the mould to be able to re-tool and reward the loyal fans with a better building experience. If you want to know what standard I think kits should be made to in this day and age. We have some incredible technology that wasn’t even thought of 15 years ago. So I don’t think it’s a stretch to say if Bandai can hand check and repair faults in moulds etc that every model kit manufacturer should be able to do the same. -
Damm!! That’s an amazing build and it’s awesome that you also saved a previous build and the end rest is just ?

Sorry I haven’t check here for a while. I sanded off the badge and used the kit decal. The base Aoshima kits have a great decal sheet. The LB Walk kits have good decals too where the Grand Champion kit from memory doesn’t have many decal and would need paint or BMF. thanks for the comments guys!!

There is actually a lot of different series. The original is as old as Star Wars and there is 2 series on Netflix I believe. I watch Gundam Unicorn earlier this year and enjoyed it. Most boxes have the difficulty in a gold box and under it is the series it’s from. So it could be HG Unicorn or HG Iron Blooded Orphans etc. pretty cool as well when looking at kits.

I wish AMT and Revell could step it up. Even if it was just snap fit engine half’s that you didn’t need to sand to 20 minutes so the intake sits correctly. I can’t say it enough Bandai’s quality is awesome!!

Muncie There’s a few scales and difficulties. HG is high grade and basically a skill 3 in their line off 6 skills. I attached a image show some differences. But there’s also a vintage original kits that are getting re-issued as FG or fun Grade with the least amount of parts. KPnuts I get lost in there unit codes but have found a bunch I like so I started with them a pick out more as I go looking at kits. Peteski have you seen the RG parts tree? They figure out a way to mould parts together the the tree. I’ve seen hands with moving fingers still sealed in the plastic bag. ?

I apologise for hijacking your thread and getting on forum etiquette. Is the kit you’ve order an RX-178? If so I have a HG version of that and can try a share some ‘what’s in the box’ pictures when I get the chance, if you like. 2 popular things when building these are the Tamiya panel line and to finish them in a flat coat. You have a choice to paint them or just use a clear coat which is why it’s good that they are moulded in the correct colours. Just 2 popular techniques a lot of builders do.
