Anyone Use Revell Whitewall Decals?
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm thinking I'll just stick to painting them. I'm not that good with decals anyway. -
This is a restoration I did a few years ago. I got it in a trade with a member here. It was in decent shape with just a bad '60's paint job, missing emblems, stock tail lights and firewall. It also had most of the trailer. I decided to build it as a curbside and just concentrate on the body and interior. I separated the cab from the bed and filled in the cab wall. I separated the grille from the bumper. Opened the grille, drilled out the molded in headlights, added reflectors and lenses. I modified both bumpers and added bumper bolts to the front bumper. I scratch built a splash pan. I made new bezels for the bullet tail lights with aluminum tube. The holes from the missing emblems were filled. It's painted with Krylon Ocean Breeze with Testors Dull Cote. Wheels are Pegasus with Revell Good Year SCS's with painted whitewalls. The interior is painted the same color with white accents. Can’t see it in the photos. But, I scratch built a tuck and roll headliner and glued it to the glass runners to cover them up. It really tidies up the interior. It's a simple old model. But, it looks the part. Thanx for checking it out!

Nice looking wagon Tom! I really like the colors you chose and the extra details you added really makes the model! Nice work!

Like the ones that come with their kits? I typically paint them. But, if they work well, I may give them a shot. My thinking is that they will be difficult to get on without wrinkles. Then what happens when you install the wheels or do you install the wheels first? If you have a photo, please post them.

Have you sprayed anything with it yet? If you have, I'd like to see a photo to have a better idea of what it actually looks like. -
Have to swap the dog houses as there's a sizable difference in width between the Revell '68 Chevelle and the AMT El Camino. One might be able to swap the header and hood between the two. I hope the '69 grille fits better than the '68 did. Also hope they fixed the dash and door panels.

Round2/AMT would be better suited to do the '69 El Camino as they already have the '68.

How do you edit posts when there is no edit tab?
Plowboy replied to Alan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Threads/posts can no longer be edited after a certain period of time. I don't understand it either. It's something that really needs to be changed. -
No interest in the GTX. But, I'll have to have at least two of the '69 Chevelles. One for myself and one for my older brother.

I think I do Carl. Right now, I'm planning on painting it Tamiya AS-29 Gray Green. It's kind of a stockish looking color. Don't know if I will shoot pearl over it or not. Kinda doubt it. Depends on the shade of the color. The interior and wheels will get Tamiya Light Sand. -

I now have all of the major components prepped and ready for primer. Hopefully, I can get that done today. I didn't do a whole lot of work to the frame. I removed the muffler mount to clean it up. I removed the front cross member of the spare mount, added a new member at the very rear of the frame, narrowed and boxed the truck's gas tank to fit and filled the rear spring mounting holes. Instead of cutting notches for the rearend out of the frame, I cut down the needed amount and gradually faded out the cuts. I removed the running board braces and relocated them to go under the step board. Up front, I added a couple chunks of styrene to the frame horns and shaped them to fit up to the splash pan. This also gives me something to mount the bumper braces to. The floorpan is a combination from both kits. The pickup supplied the floor pan. The convertible supplied the side pockets. A strip of .020 styrene was used to fill in the front. -
I haven't used sprue cutters for years. I got tired of breaking delicate parts and having small parts zing off into oblivion. I started using a photo etch saw blade and like it so much better. No damaged or lost parts and I get much cleaner cuts.

Nice looking Impala! I really like the color on it with the vinyl top!

That's a nice looking Olds! I like the stance and the wheels. Colors are spot on also. I have a JoHan Olds in the stash. But, don't recall exactly what year it is.

Thanx again everyone for the comments! I appreciate it!

I was thinking more like something Homer Simpson would drive. -
1950 Chevy 3100 engine change
Plowboy replied to Wm David Green's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Something else to consider would be using the AMT '55 Chevy pickup (street machine or stock) as a donor. You would get a small block and transmission along with a frame clip that already accepts the engine/trans, headers (custom version), dropped axle, exhaust etc. -

That's a good looking Ford pickup! Hard to believe how old this kit is. -

I did a hardtop conversion on the '67 a while back. It's actually fairly simple if the cuts are planned right. I took the leftovers and created this abomination just to see if it would fit. Can’t make up my mind if I want to take it any further. -

Corona Virus (Covid 19) and Model Kits
Plowboy replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got plenty of projects already and way more kits than I'll ever build. So, I won't even notice. -
So clean and classy! I typically don't like the chrome Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. But, with this model and the wide whites, they're perfect! Nice work!

Biggest pet peeves on builds.
Plowboy replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A pickup is a pickup. It doesn't matter what style it's built in. It's still a pickup and belongs in that section. I do disagree with moving El Caminos and Rancheros to the pickup section as they're car/wagon based and don't have a separate bed. It would be like moving a station wagon there because it's an early SUV. -

Final mockup photos! Everything that needs to be installed has been. Still some tweaks left. But, now I can blow it apart and make some progress. I'll start with the chassis and work my way up. I haven't got a color nailed down yet. It's a toss up between a light gray that may be too subtle or orange that may be too loud. I don't have either one in the stash. So, I may just go with something I have on hand. I also can't make up my mind about keeping the gas door on the fender or putting the filler neck back on the cab. Tail lights are another issue. Use the car's or the truck's?
