Resin body slowly dying!!
Plowboy replied to Lorne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Shame that happened Lorne! I've seen resin warp before. But, not years down the road. At least you can re-body it and salvage the rest of it. -
Thanx for the great comments everyone! I appreciate it! Tom, the tires can be found in any of the Revell '32 Ford kits (except the roadster), '37 Fords, along with several others.

Carl, I use Armor All Cleaner Wax on Dull Cote. It will give it just a touch of shine. Almost gives it a satin look. I would think any automotive wax would work the same.

That's a nice looking little RX-7!! The color suits it very well! I have an RX-7 in the stash. I think it's an Aoshima kit though.

I built this one four or five years ago. Since it was my first go around with the kit, I kept it fairly simple. I lowered front and rear. The inner wheel wells had to be modified up front. I kept the interior stock. It's painted withTamiya Pearl White and Brilliant Blue. The body just got a few simple modifications. The side trim got reduced to a single strip. The hood and header got a slight peak. Headlights are from the AMT '57 Fairlane as are the tail lights. The grille is from a parts pack set. I smoothed the tail gate and added a chrome strip to mimic the side trim. The body was painted with Tamiya Mica Blue and Testors Dull Cote. The rear section of the roof got clear pearl stripes. They're more noticeable in person than in the photos. Wheels are Pegasus. Tires are Revell Good Year SCS's with painted whitewalls. Thanx for checking it out!

It fit as close to perfect as one could ask for as it's from the kit. The problem with vacuum formed glass is that it's always bigger than the kit piece and it usually has what I refer to as stretch marks. Your issue was probably compounded by having a thicker resin body also. I ran into that with a resin '61 Falcon. . -

Thanx James! I don't have a camera any longer. I take my photos with a little 7" Samsung tablet. -
It's Brad's model to build however he wants. JoHan '69 Road Runners aren't that rare or valuable. If they were, you wouldn't be able to find them on ebay at any given time. I'm sure there's still plenty of them being preserved. One more getting built will only make the others more valuable to collectors.

Spark Plug wire details?
Plowboy replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can also make wire looms from .010 sheet styrene and paint them with a Sharpie marker. I use a silver marker. But, you could use any color you like. -
If you can be absolutely sure that your clear won't yellow over time, you'll be OK. If not, don't do it. Many years ago, I ruined a couple of models by spraying Testors clear enamel over foil. One I didn't care about. The other had to be stripped. It's still setting in a box. Haven't sprayed clear of any kind over foil since. It's an unnecessary step if the foil is applied correctly.

Gene, your '66 is one of the best conversions of the old Monogram kit that I've seen! Looks like the '64 GTO chassis is the best option for that kit. I have most of one molded in red. I may give that a try sometime.

They're all really nice models Jason! The '17 Camaro is especially nice and I like the color combo on the '68 Charger!

Thanx! I just drilled out the molded in headlights, made new reflectors and added the lenses. -
Thanx guys, I appreciate the comments!

This is a restoration I did five or so years ago. Most of the work was done on the front end. I opened the grille and header panel, replaced the molded in headlights, separated the grille and bumper and added a splash pan. The hood emblems, door scripts and filler neck were removed. I replaced the glue blob kit engine with one from a '57 Thunderbird. But, I kept the original three carb setup. The headers are from a '56 Fairlane. I added a few details under hood to liven it up a bit. The paint is Tamiya Medium Green (I think) with a coat of Testors Dull Cote and a coat of wax. I actually had the paint polished. But, it just didn't look "right". Wheels are Pegasus. Tires are Revell Good Year SCS's with painted whitewalls. Thanx for checking it out!

AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Plowboy replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A simple way to raise the rear is add a little more arch to the springs by bending them slightly at the rearend. Or you could simply add blocks between the springs and frame. But, if you're building a pro touring Mustang, you need to lower it and not worry about the stock stance. -
The only kit I have a remote interest in would be the Pinto. Even then I would want to convert it to a '79 with the wagon.

They work great Karl! Buy with confidence!

I use Elmers for things where I don't need strength. Tiny drops of crazy glue where I need strength. That's what's holding this model together. Something I just thought of after reading Dave's post is the old non toxic glue in the blue tube. I wonder how it would work as a temporary glue?

AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Plowboy replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanx JC! I thought they kinda looked like wheel covers. But, it was hard to tell for sure in the photo. I checked the covers from the Jeepster and they are almost identical. Another small issue I forgot to mention with the '67 is the headlights are too small. They should measure 7" in scale. Easy remedy is the reflectors and lenses from a Revell '69 Camaro and of course, making the opening larger. -
Nice looking Impala! The Champagne Gold looks good on it!

AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Plowboy replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have a set of wheels very similar to those. They came in the first issue of an MPC Jeepster kit. I'll have to dig them out and check them out a little closer. I'm guessing those are Hurst mags?
