AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Plowboy replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Something else that needs to be addressed on the '67 Mustangs is the line between the quarters and the tail light panel. The full scale Mustang doesn't have a panel line from top to bottom in that area. Fill the line and scribe new lines for the quarter panel caps and rear valence. It's a small improvement that makes a huge difference! -
Chopped 1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe with Y-Block Power!
Plowboy replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Really like that color!! I think it would look wicked with the wheel spokes and hub painted a gold tone color. -
I built this a few years ago. It's just a simple curbside build. The inspiration came from the Brad Leisure box art. For some reason, it really grabbed my attention. I used all of the custom pieces in the box. Up front, it was missing something. So, I added a molded in front bumper and gave the grille a more V shape. The kit I used didn't have wide whitewalls. So, I sourced those from another kit. I made dual antennas from wire and the bases from a '64 Impala. Although I liked the boxart, I wanted to choose my own colors and add scallops. The lower body got Tamiya Lime Pearl with Testors White Lightning scallops. The roof got Testors White Lightning with Lime Pearl scallops. The interior was painted flat white and Model Masters Green Go. The dash got Lime Pearl. Thanx for checking it out!

What about sticking it under a '70 or '72 Chevelle?

Nice models Phil! I really like the little low boy! It has that just right look to it! -
Lot of cool stuff Bob! Love the El Camino! I also really like the Streaker 'Vette! I had that model way back in the day and it was one of my favorites. I'd like to get my hands on another one and build it right out of the box.

Nice looking Galaxie Ray! To me, there's nothing cooler than a model built like an actual car that was once owned or remembered. It gives them more "soul" IMO.
-
The easiest way to get a decent looking '66 Chevelle is to convert the Revell '67 using the front clip from the El Camino, tail light panel and rear bumper from the Monogram. I can't remember if I had to narrow the tail light panel or not. But, I did have to narrow the rear bumper slightly. The only issue with the clip swap is the bottom of the fenders don't have exact matching shapes. But, one could leave that portion attached to the body.

AMT made the '61-'63 and they actually look like the full scale pickups. I'm glad I still have one more minty '62 promo in the stash for when and if the urge hits to build another one.

You had a great year of building Bernard! I can usually pick a favorite out of any group of models. But, I can't here! I like them all equally! Well done!

Do you keep your instructions?
Plowboy replied to VanSpence's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't keep instructions or the box unless they're from the '60's. Anything after that goes in the trash. I see no need in keeping them after the model is built. -
Nice models David! That Charger is really nice!
-
If I can turn one into a two door Biscayne or Bel Air fairly easily, I may get one then. Like David, I'm going to wait until I see a few of them built before I buy one.

Thanx! I never did like the outlaw cowl hoods. Even when they were so popular. I'd rather have the engine sticking through the stock hood. To me, the cowl hoods only look right on a GM. Anything else, they just look outta place.

Thanx Luke! Seems like the more I work on this project, the farther away the finish line gets. I had an old Monogram Glidden T-Bird that I had stole the wheels from in the stash. I snagged the engine and stuck it between the frame rails. It fit. But, even with the spring/shock towers moved out, very little room for headers. So, I whacked off the frame rails at the firewall and replaced it with the tube frame clip from the T-Bird. Now, I have all the room I need for the headers. I still need to trim down the frame connectors and fabricate an X brace. Plus fabricate a roll cage on the top side. I didn't want to use the tunnel ram intake and Dominators. So, I made a modern air intake/throttle body setup for it. I may use coil packs for the ignition. Depends on how much room I have for a distributor. I'm going to use a different type of electric water pump. I'm also thinking about doing a Nitrous setup. I've never done one before. With the engine in place, it was time to see how much I needed to cut out of the hood. I first trimmed the hood to fit closely to the intake. But, there was just too much sticking through for my taste. I was actually surprised at how low the profile of the intake was. It barely sticks through the hood. I made a scoop to barely cover the hole in the hood.

Very nice track racer Phil! Makes me want to build one! Could you post a side shot photo? -
Krylon Short Cuts spray paint.
Plowboy replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I haven't used the Krylon Short Cuts. But, I have used the Krylon in the larger cans. It's an acrylic paint. Pretty sure it's lacquer also. I've sprayed Testors, Tamiya and Dupli Color over it. Make sure you read the instructions on the can and check for a recoat window. The paint I've used has a recoat window of before four hours or after twenty-four. If you spray additional coats between four and twenty-four, it will wrinkle like crazy! I learned that lesson the hard way! If you want a little paler blue, look for the Ocean Breeze in the big cans. This is over gray primer with Testors Dull Cote. -
One of the nicest General Lees I've seen yet! I like the changes you made. I would have done it similar. There are things that just shouldn't be done to a car! You did it justice. Nice work! Now, you just need to build a pro street GL to go along with it. Big blown Hemi, roll cage and steam rollers tucked up under the rear.

That little '62 Corvette is sharp!! Is that Tamiya Pearl Green paint on the body?
-
Nice group of models Tom! You had a good year!
-
Nice! I really like the Starliner!
-
You had a good year Bucky! I really like the Datsun and the Catalina!
-
This is a cool project Chuck! Maybe think about adding fender flares and a rear spoiler? You could pirate the flares and probably the spoiler too from a Gran Prix. More work, but bulging the fenders and quarters would look cool too. Kinda like a wide body.
-
Excellent work on both! I really like the Galaxie!

Johan 63 fury... preserve or modify?
Plowboy replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If it's like most JoHan kits, it's a body and dash donor anyway. I say go for it and make something out of it!
