AmericanMuscleFan replied to AmericanMuscleFan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for the kind comments Steve and sorry, I just realized I missed your post! Speaking of color choice, I'm still thinking about it, I would have liked to do a candy paint but since I want to install the cabin floor before finishing, it will limit me to painting the interior through the door openings, and there are a lot of nooks and crannies so the fewer layers the better. As they say, I don't want to paint myself in the corners...lol. Regarding the sharing of my other builds, I will see if there is any interest, I like to take the time to document well and there are some of my models (as for the 72 Roadrunner) which I can no longer find much of the photos of the construction process. My other models were built between 12 and 20 years ago, so I was also less meticulous about documenting everything at the time... I'll try to post some pics of my latest progress of the pickup in the next few days. Thanks again for your interrest and take care, Francis -
They shoot horses, don't they?
AmericanMuscleFan replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I saw you managed to punch the holes on the hood and it's harder to do than it looks. I don't know if you have drilled them by under as you mentioned but I usually take measurement with my digital caliper and drill from the top. If unfortunately the holes (one of all) don't line up perfectly, I drill a larger one and glue a piece of styrene tubing with the hood in place and sand the piece flush when the glue has set. It's just another option to save the day when sh... happen! Great job by the way, the Mustang is heading in the right direction sir! -
70 Plymouth HEMI GTX 1/25 Scale
AmericanMuscleFan replied to AmericanMuscleFan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Eric! Glad to know that my GTX made you laugh for the reason you explained and not the other reason... I spent a lot of hours on this car so I am happy you liked it! Take care, Francis -
72 Plymouth Roadrunner 426 HEMI 8 Pack

Thanks for your kind comments Kurt! The smallest nuts and bolts are from RB Motion or Scale Hardware, I don't have the time or patience to make them... and I need a lot of them for my builds! I usually machine the bigger ones like the lock nuts on the suspension components but I save most of my machining time for shiny parts! Your Mustang project is progressing very well by the way! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Claude! I bought these ACCEL coils several years ago from Replicas & Miniature Company of Maryland and they were sold for 1/24 and 1/25 scale but yes I think they are a bit off scale. However, I remember that these super coils were very big (I had one under the hood of my 'Cuda 340) and I would be curious to have another real one in hand and check its actual dimensions. For the moment I no longer use them on my projects because as you know, my under hoods are quite full and I need all the space available for the shiny parts... Take care, Francis -
'30 Ford Coupe hot rod 'The Notso Special'
AmericanMuscleFan replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in Model Cars
Very beautiful and clean build! The chop is drastic but gives a very hot rod look and the all black finish is perfect for that car. Looking at the construction pics, I was reassured to see that I am not alone with a busy workbench! Well done sir!!! -
This Rustoleum metallic paint is very convincing to mimic matal, I have never tried it but definitely will if I can find any. Did you apply it straight from the spray can or with an airbrush? Amazing machined parts Charles, this is an extraordinary project that you have invested yourselves in and everything you have done so far is worthy of a museum! Very ingenious technique for machining the steering wheel by the way! Great update, keep doing your great work!!!

Thanks John! I must admit that a configuration with 2 carburetors gives a more aggressive look! Take care, Francis -
A 41 Willys Roadster mash up... made of leftover parts!
AmericanMuscleFan replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Leftovers have never been sexier than that Claude! As we say, nothing bad can happen when you mix quality ingredients... just need the right dosage and voila, another great build! There is nothing that gets lost in your parts bin and it's a good thing! I am impressed... It looks like you filled the tires with nitrogen seeing the green tire valves? Well done again my friend!!! -
Thank you for being forgiving about my English my friend ... besides being a fantastic place to share our skills, it is also a good place for me to practice Shakespeare's language! A pleasure and a win-win situation!!! ? Speaking twin turbo engine you will have to be patient...lol

Thanks for your kind and sincere words about my work sir I do appreciate it! I don't think there is a short answer to all of your questions, so it deserves an answer at the same level as your kind comments! Not wishing to expose all my professional life on this thread, I will send you a personal message. Thank you again, Francis -
Another 62 Ford
AmericanMuscleFan replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is a very nice body style! I love this era of pickup trucks and it will look great no matter which direction you take! That gray paint looks very glossy! Sorry Roger, I have to ask, is it another '72 Duster waiting patiently in the background or a photo taken at the start of the construction of the California Flash you just completed? -
Very nice and well detailed engine (all this build is awesome with a lot of attention to details)! You did a great job on detailing the carburetors and I specially like the work done on the transmission. Very convincing and realistic with the weathering done, not too much, just enough! Well done sir!

72 Plymouth Roadrunner 426 HEMI 8 Pack
AmericanMuscleFan replied to AmericanMuscleFan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Glenn! Like for metal, nothing looks more realistic than real material... the radiator hose is a small section of a rubber o-ring. I bought a set on the internet for a few dollars so I have plenty of sizes available for most situations. Hope it help, Francis -

Thanks Russel for your great feeling about my build ! I would dare say this is a pretty old build, so I'll set the bar higher and hope I don't disappoint you! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Bill for your kind words! Despite the great metal-mimicking paints we can find today, I think nothing is more realistic than real metal... Take care, Francis -

AmericanMuscleFan replied to AmericanMuscleFan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for your kind comments Ray! I think the carburetors are pretty simplistic design comparing to what I can do today but I was always obsessed by the ones supplied in the kits. Glad you like them... as well as the rest of the build! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Seth! I think it was one of the fastest builds I've done... imagine... 15 months... I'm embarrassed... Take care, Francis -

Double thanks Guido! Take care, Francis Thanks for the comments Roger! More photos of the build are posted in the WIP section if your interested. Take care, Francis -
Superb Cutlass Steve, I love it, one of the nicest body style! I wanted to put a twin turbo on my current engine build but I changed my mind to keep the engine bay as original as possible but I will make one with that set-up one day or another! You really are a tempting demon... Well done sir!!!
-
Beautiful and very well built Chevelle Steve! Great details all around, the stance is perfect and that red... You're like a tempting demon and you give me ideas for my pickup...
-
Still a very nice and clean build Roger! I don't remember this one in particular, but it's cool to see these older funny cars with their bodies closer to their original versions than the heavily modified bodies of today!
