Hello Everyone! Not a lot of activity lately apart from my new 72 Plymouth Roadrunner 426 HEMI thread which I posted a few days ago. Summer is still here in the Great North but I managed to find some bench time to add another little part to the engine. Using a small aluminum rod I machined the oil pump cover and the gear housing. The filter is a piece of orange styrene sprue that I rounded on the milling. I also wanted to drive some hoses to the oil pan so I drilled 2 holes in it and welded 2 brass rods in place to create the shoulderings for the fittings. The hoses are electrical wire sheaths from which I removed the metal wires and slipped them on a small brass wire at both ends. Aluminum nuts are from RB Motion and brass bolts will be used to mount the oil pump on the engine block. I will add a sponsor decal on the oil filter at final assembly. I hope to make more progress soon with the fall, which will inevitably come its way in the coming weeks. Take care, Francis Oil pump cover in progress. Another superb build Steve! Great idea to use the matt finish on the body and gloss for the board. A Ford body with a Mopar engine... not bad for a Chevy guy... ?

Superb build of a superb car Tim, you know your subject for sure! I love it! The 70 model year is the nicest one IMHO and your build brings me some great memories. My very first car was a 70 barracuda with a 318 engine and a flat hood, painted the same blue color. We could never have suspected at the time that these cars could be so valuable all these years later even for lower end versions!

Thanks for the kind comments Tom! Everything being relative, I used my last completed build (70 Plymouth HEMI GTX) as a comparison point which I think was my most detailed model to date. I feel very flattered to have the approval of a model car builder of your competence sir! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Jim! Plum Crazy is one of my favorite Mopar high-impact color and I think it fits like a glove to this car! Take care, Francis -
Just another ordeal to test your strength of character my friend! You will overcome this with an even better paint job I'm sure! You mentioned that you will only put the side stripes but I was wondering if you have considered painting the stripes (hood, top and trunk) instead of using decals?

Hey Lorne, long time no see! I'm glad to see you back on the forum and hope to see more update of your fantastic Chevy pickup soon! Thank you very much for your kind and superlative comments on my builds, but I just consider myself to be an avid miniature car builder who enjoys sharing and learning from other members of this forum. Looking at all the great work and new projects that are added every day on this forum, I am confident that our hobby will be in good health for years to come! Thanks again my friend! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Guido, I have found a lot of photos and information on this mysterious engine myself, so I will continue to search the internet for more if I ever decide to embark on a new project where I can use it... Take care, Francis -
Glad to see another Maverick project underway Roger! There can not be too many of these rare small Ford body builds and especially in Pro Stock version! Probably a lot of work to perfectly fit the Mustang's chassis, but certainly the best option for a more detailed result. Very good start!

Thanks for the info and pics guys, I didn't know anything about this engine. Would be an interesting engine to build for another Mopar project... another rarity... ? Strange that the spark plugs are placed like a wedge engine but advertised as hemi heads? The engine seem to be under the hood of a 68 or 69 Barracuda? Now I know which door to knock if I need more information on this mysterious engine! -

Absolutely superb build Mark! No matter how good the aging products you used, the product didn't work on its own, you perfectly rendered the appearance of a vehicle that has been ravaged by the elements for decades. Very very well done sir!!! -
Very nice build Mark! Unusual color combo but I must say that's very beautiful and very different. Super clean build, I love the 69 Camaro, who don't like them... Well done sir!!!

Thanks for the kind comments Steve and sorry, I just realized I missed your post! Speaking of color choice, I'm still thinking about it, I would have liked to do a candy paint but since I want to install the cabin floor before finishing, it will limit me to painting the interior through the door openings, and there are a lot of nooks and crannies so the fewer layers the better. As they say, I don't want to paint myself in the corners...lol. Regarding the sharing of my other builds, I will see if there is any interest, I like to take the time to document well and there are some of my models (as for the 72 Roadrunner) which I can no longer find much of the photos of the construction process. My other models were built between 12 and 20 years ago, so I was also less meticulous about documenting everything at the time... I'll try to post some pics of my latest progress of the pickup in the next few days. Thanks again for your interrest and take care, Francis -
They shoot horses, don't they?
AmericanMuscleFan replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I saw you managed to punch the holes on the hood and it's harder to do than it looks. I don't know if you have drilled them by under as you mentioned but I usually take measurement with my digital caliper and drill from the top. If unfortunately the holes (one of all) don't line up perfectly, I drill a larger one and glue a piece of styrene tubing with the hood in place and sand the piece flush when the glue has set. It's just another option to save the day when sh... happen! Great job by the way, the Mustang is heading in the right direction sir! -
70 Plymouth HEMI GTX 1/25 Scale
AmericanMuscleFan replied to AmericanMuscleFan's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models

Thanks for your kind comments Kurt! The smallest nuts and bolts are from RB Motion or Scale Hardware, I don't have the time or patience to make them... and I need a lot of them for my builds! I usually machine the bigger ones like the lock nuts on the suspension components but I save most of my machining time for shiny parts! Your Mustang project is progressing very well by the way! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Claude! I bought these ACCEL coils several years ago from Replicas & Miniature Company of Maryland and they were sold for 1/24 and 1/25 scale but yes I think they are a bit off scale. However, I remember that these super coils were very big (I had one under the hood of my 'Cuda 340) and I would be curious to have another real one in hand and check its actual dimensions. For the moment I no longer use them on my projects because as you know, my under hoods are quite full and I need all the space available for the shiny parts... Take care, Francis -
'30 Ford Coupe hot rod 'The Notso Special'
AmericanMuscleFan replied to Rocking Rodney Rat's topic in Model Cars
Very beautiful and clean build! The chop is drastic but gives a very hot rod look and the all black finish is perfect for that car. Looking at the construction pics, I was reassured to see that I am not alone with a busy workbench! Well done sir!!!
