I've built a few police vehicles over the years. First is a Revell Audi R8 with some aftermarket decals to make up a Dubai police car. I have a couple more decals to make some other Dubai cars also. Next is the Fujimi model of the I believe Italian Polizia Lamborghini Gallardo. The next picture I found online of a Lamborghini Gallardo that was donated to the LAPD that I thought looked really neat, so I decided to build a version of it. I'm pretty sure the kit was a Fujimi one, and I made up & printed my own LAPD decals to use on the build, and I thought it looked better with a thin design light bar that I found online. The next one is a Testors metal Crown Vic police kit that I made NOPD decals for and built for my step-brother as a gift. He is a corrections officer in New Orleans. While on a business trip to Taiwan in the late 80s I saw these BMW 5 Series cars used as police cars on the highway, and thought they were pretty interesting. I used a Fujimi BMW M5 kit to start, modified some Mercedes wheels to look like the ones on the car, and this was before I was making my own decals, so the emblems on the door were hand painted. I built a police model that was a give away one year for the NNL West show, but I don't have any pics of it. I'm also working on a model of a Nash Metropolitan and an NYPD Smart car police car. I don't know if anyone else saw this on the internet recently, but apparently with the success of Top Gun Maverick Tom Cruise is looking into making an update to the Days of Thunder. I'm sure it is too early for any details, and sounds like it is more in the "Lets take a look at this idea" stage right now. With Salvinos JR producing the new NASCAR models, maybe they can get a tie in if the movie does get made. Steve A.

I don't know if they will specifically the '50 Olds kit, but AMT did a sun visor in the '55 Chevy Cameo Pickup kit (and there are a couple of the parts on eBay. Also, Galaxie had a sun visor in a couple of their '48 Chevy kit. I don't know of any resin casters offering any, but I do know there are a few 3D files out there that could probably be adjusted to fit the Olds body. I downloaded one from Cults3D that just said it was for 1/24th vintage scale autos. Steve A.

Bob, I did a set of these decals for the Galpin Gasser III a few years ago, if you are still looking for them you can contact me about them. Attached is a pic of a model using the decals I made up. I tried sending you a PM, but it says you aren't accepting messages. I'm also going to try and do up some sheets for the Galpin Gasser I and the Galpin Gasser II at some point also. I've been trying to find a '56 Ford body for the Galpin Gasser I decals, but the only one I've seen is a resin body that is hard to find. Anyways, if you still are looking for the decals just let me know. Steve A.

To answer your question about increasing the size from 1/24th to 1/12th, yes you can do this but sometimes it isn't as easy as just increasing it by 200%. I've had to change the size of a part a few times, as an example fitting a hubcap to a kit supplied wheel, you have to adjust the size a little to fit the kit part. Other times you might have to modify the kit part to fit the 3D printed part. I've 3D printed a lot of parts for myself and some modeling friends, and sometimes the parts work just fine as is, and sometimes a little modifying is needed. I hope this info helps you. Steve A.

I've been using an Alps MD-1000 for a really long time, and doing basic cleanup on them isn't too difficult to do yourself. As far as if they need some repair or parts for them, I've heard that there is a company I believe in Japan that can repair them, but the cost can be pretty significant. It has been awhile, but I seem to remember something like $700+ for them to be repaired. I've not heard of anyplace in the US that will do repairs on Alps printers. The cost for the ink cartridges is going up also. I remember being able to buy the cartridges for about $15-$18 each when I first bought my printer. I recently needed some white cartridges, and the best deal I found on eBay was about $34 each. I hope you can get the ones you have working. Steve A.

Yes, my plan to make them available to buy. Also, I used the 2 pics you posted above, and I think this is what the sheet originally looked like. Steve A.

The first picture I posted is a scan of the decal sheet I have, and you can see 2 areas of missing decals. I was able to find a somewhat decent pic of a full decal sheet to see what the missing ones were. The one at the top is a Chevrolet decal, and the other area was an Engle Cam one. Here are the images I was able to find of them. To me the other 2 decal sheets look like they are the same sheet, just with different decals missing, so by combining the 2 you can come up with what the full original one looked like. I will try and see if I can duplicate that sheet also. Steve A.

Thank you for the image, that will help a lot with the sheet. So now the only 2 I haven't been able to find good pics of is the Mickey Thompson Alum Piston and the Wedge Engineering ones, but I'm still try. I really appreciate all the help so far. Steve A.

After typing my response about the other 2 decal sheets I was looking at them and realized they are the same sheets, just showing what was missing from each one. Steve A.

I'm trying to replicate the decal sheet in my original post, and the first one in the above post, and make them available to buy. The other 2 sheets would be easy to do also, just need to know what decals are missing from the cut out areas. Steve A.
-
Thanks for the pics, I've saved them for reference. The first one is the sheet I have that I'm trying to replicate, and it looks like yours is a little clearer and in nicer shape than the one I have. I've found some good images of almost all the decals on it but like 3 of them so far. The other 2 sheets you show would be fairly easy to replicate also, would just need to know what the missing decals were. Steve A.

Thanks for the help that has been provided so far to try and do up this decal sheet. I forgot one other decal from the original sheet I don't know about. On the right side is an oval shape with the lettering of "Checkers" and some sort of image. I've never seen a decal like this before, has anyone else? Steve A.

That came out nice Curt. I also did a 1/16th scale one for John Teresi, can't wait to see what he does with it. Also, the 3D files were ones sold by Ron Olsen at 3DModelspecialties. Steve A.

Thanks for the info, I tried looking online, but still haven't found a pic of it yet. I'll have to do some more looking and hopefully find a pic to use. Steve A.

Thanks for the pic, that helps out a lot. Steve A.

Hello, I have an old Revell Parts Pack decal sheet that is missing a couple of decals, but I know what the images are. I'm wanting to try and recreate a new version of this old sheet, but with better images on it. I've found good images of most all the decals on the sheet, but I'm having problems with a couple of them. I'm looking for a good pic of the Shift Master decal, I've found a similar pic that I can probably modify to work, but was hoping to find a better pic. Same with the Deist Dragin Chutes, I found a pic but would like to find a better one if possible. I haven't been able to find a pic of the Mickey Thompson Forged Aluminum Piston decal. There is also a triangle shape decal that I can't make out, it has a figure and looks like it has the first word of "Wedge", but is blurry when I try to zoom in on it. And finally in the last picture attached I can't make out the name to try and do a search. It kind of looks like it starts with a "P" and then looks like the word "Parts" and the last word looks like either "Complete or Obsolete". Any one have an idea what this one is? I'm hoping to have the decal sheet finished up in the near future and have it available to order. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Steve A.

Nice creativity, detail and weathering. Looks kind of like one of the vehicles in a Mad Max movie. Steve A.

That turned out nice. Was it as challenging as some of the F1 kits you build every so often? Steve A. -
I printed up a 1/16th scale 3D Uncertain-T model for John Teresi, and he was asking me about printing up the trophy that was in the original kit to go along with it. I've looked, and couldn't find any 3D files out there, so was going to try making up the parts to do one. I need to see about getting some basic dimensions from the original Monogram 1/24th scale kit to make up the parts. Would someone happen to have one of the original kits that they can get me some measurements from the trophy parts? Attached is a picture of the trophy from the instruction sheet for reference. I found some 3D files of the winged angel and a globe that I can use, but could use measurements like the height of the angel and diameter of the globe. Thanks. Steve A.

Revell Corvette C5.R Decal Placement
Leo64 replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looking online I found a review of a previous version of C5R, and the instructions and decal sheet show 2 carbon fiber decals that I don't see on the decal sheet you posted from your version. So it looks like they removed the decals from the sheet, but forgot to take the decal placement off the instruction sheet. You can probably use tape to make a template and use some carbon fiber decal sheet from someone like Scalemotorsports. I hope this info helps you out. -
Very nice collection, I especially like the Cobra Daytona Coupes. I hope they make it safely through the move. What part of AZ are you moving to? I'm up in northern AZ in Williams. Maybe I'll see you at the next Desert Scale Classic Show. Steve A.

Those all turned out really nice. Now if you want to be a gluten for punishment, there are the Slixx decals to do the AER, Glidden & Royal Oak versions of the Camaros. I did the Royal Oak version for my build a few years ago. Steve A. -
Early 60s Indycars -- Watson Roadsters

My friend Curt Raitz and myself had all the issues of Motor Racing Replica News, and I scanned them into PDF files. Curt happened to know Mike Quarterman(sp) and got permission from him to sell them on CDs. If you find Curt's profile on here, you can send him a message asking about how to get the CD. On the CD I created one file that has a scan of the cover and table of content of each issue, so you can open that file and look for a certain article, then open the file for that issue. Steve A. -

I use Firefox and found that nothing happens when I try clicking on the messages or notification icons at the top. I have to use Microsoft edge to be able to open them up. Steve A.
