55-56 Mercury taillights
Leo64 replied to Lunajammer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know Norm at Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland offers several different tail lights for custom work, but looking at his latest price sheet I only see '54 Mercury ones and '56 Lincoln as anything close to what you are looking for. I also tried looking to see if there might be anything available for 3D printing, but so far can't find anything. There is a resin 1956 Mercury Montclair kit on eBay, but it isn't cheap at around $200. https://www.ebay.com/itm/355605329703?itmmeta=01HTVQB8S88M2HBC30W50BFRVC&hash=item52cbbab727:g:CmUAAOSw5QJmDwHE&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4N8rDA4iy0yD%2FiJrUYm%2B%2BBaRD5a5LuvEASDKFyU1SQWUliEg4P9zCQtNu6Darc%2FWahboNDSWE4cRU9Eepne0rhLGXkRsbQWEAG7OF7ahx22Y%2FIav1qInTSqSf5Aqc6earLcryohBG8PLsQumE49ssffBJlM6WHFD8c24v85opXhgCHpS4vJdHEPMffdH4XI2YplHzD5TpSBI0m30L5cC0p%2BKUB%2BMHJH7%2Bnxgnc%2BranMinRXvJn%2BNK158cC%2FHyt6kPUHzZcGGpdTqtP5LX%2FV7nqbfM%2Fvcv0c0g67cGag7qU7m|tkp%3ABk9SR9iMrffWYw Steve A. -
I have the Avex NSX model kit in my closet, I just saw it the other day. As for the Xanavi kits, I know they are in my storage, and unfortunately it will be a couple of weeks before I can try looking for them. On March 22nd I had surgery on my Achilles tendon, and I'm currently recovering from that, and the doctor said it will be another 2 weeks before I can try driving again. When I can get to my storage, I'll see what I can find and let you know. Steve A.

I've built a few small scale models over the years. I have a couple I don't have pics of and they are packed away from a couple of moves, so can't get a pic of them now. But I do have a few that I do have pics of. First is a 1/32nd scale 1959 Cadillac El Dorado Seville from Gunze Sangyo. I masked off the model and painted the flames using Tamiya spray paint. Next is the Airfix 1/32nd scale Jaguar XKR GT3 model. Those newer Airfix 1/32nd kits a kind of nice little kits to build. And last is the Monogram 1/43rd scale Ultimates 1967 Corvette 427 convertible. The photo etch parts in that kit will test your eyesight for sure. I also won an award with it in the small scale glass at a GSL show one year that I went. Steve A.

Need Pantograph wipers and belt hardware........
Leo64 replied to Allan31's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Detail Master makes some nice sets of wipers and racing harness, but it looks like they say sold out on their website. However, I do see a lot of their stuff on eBay listed. Here are their wiper sets: https://www.detailmaster.com/search?type=product&q=NOT+tag%3A__gift+AND+wipers* And here are their harness sets: https://www.detailmaster.com/search?type=product&q=NOT+tag%3A__gift+AND+harness* Steve A. -
Looking for a 1/24 Scale Curtiss OX-5 Engine.
Leo64 replied to stavanzer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There is a file available on the Thingiverse website that says it is a Curtis "Number 3" engine that looks like pics of the OX5. It is listed as a 1/8th scale build, so if you were to scale it down to 1/24th-1/25th scale you are going to lose some of the fine detail that you would have to try and add back in: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4329451 I don't know if you have someone that could try 3D printing it for you. If not I can try helping you out, but it will be a while before I can print it out. I just had surgery on my Achilles Tendon, so I can't get out to by work area to do any printing for awhile. I did 3D print some radial engines for Curt Raitz & John Teresi for their Radial Engine Biker Build Off that was posted on here awhile back, though those engines were 1/12th scale. I did try printing some out at 1/24th scale for someone that contacted me for a project they had planned, and at that scale the exhaust pipes were so thin they just didn't print out. Anyways, if I can help, just let me know. Steve A. -
The decals may have been from Yesteryear decals, looks like there is a set on eBay listed. Steve A.

If you know someone that has a 3D printer, there is a file of the 002 car on Cults3d available for a little over $4. It doesn't state what scale the file is, but you can scale it to fit a 1/25th scale kit. It is a one piece car it looks like, but if someone is good with some of the programs out there, they might be able to print just the scoop area out. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/home/tyrrell-ford-002 Steve A.

You don't mention what the driver figure looked like, but another place to get driver figures is Competition Resin, I see 2 listed under their 1/24-1/25th scale section. https://ecsvr.com/cpr/shopexd.asp?id=382 https://ecsvr.com/cpr/shopexd.asp?id=216 I tried looking to see if someone has done something like the resin figures in a 3D file, but I've only been able to find modern drivers or vintage road racer figures. I'm still checking out some other 3D suppliers that I know of. Steve A.

I just looked on Vintage Racing Miniatures website, but don't see anything like that listed. Patto's Decals lists a Dragon Snake sheet, but it doesn't show those decals, unless it is for the different lettering shown on one pic I saw of the car. Steve

I have the NSX car, but I ended up building it. I think I have one of Tamiya's other NSX cars in my stash, the AVEX Dome Mugen car (see the attached pic). I think I have a couple of the Xanavi cars, but not sure which versions of the Tamiya kits I have. I'll have to check my stash, and see if I can find them. Steve A.

Lamborghini LM 002 - 3D print
Leo64 replied to 89AKurt's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Hey Kurt, I sent you a PM to see if I can help you out with this. Just let me know if I can. Steve A. -
This is such a wild custom, and the work involved that you are doing is really great. It's too bad more people on here aren't checking out this section to see your work. It was fun learning some new 3D printing techniques to help you out with this build. Can't wait to see how the finished model comes out. I bet it will be a big winner at some shows. Steve A.

If you PM me your mailing address, I'll get them sent out to you. Steve A.

I did not realize that those were Weiand valve covers you were looking for. Maybe when I get my new glasses I'll be able to see better. lol Anyways, I had resin cast a bunch of different valve covers I had in my spare parts stash awhile back, and thought there was a Weiand one in there. I checked my stuff in storage, and found the resin cast stuff, but the Weiand one I have looks different than the one you showed. I have 5 sets that you are welcome to if they will work for you. Wilshire Shaker decals, and SLIXX???
Leo64 replied to Hondamatic's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I bought a sheet from that seller (funny thing was the set I bought said it was the last on also) and the quality look okay to me. I haven't tried installing them yet, so can't say for sure how they are when trying to put them on. The only think to me, was when looking at pics of the real car, the "502Much" lettering for the from air dam, the coloring looks a little light to me. But I couldn't find too many really good pics of the car online to say for sure. Steve A. -
The only 3D Mopar valve covers that look somewhat like those are like the ones in the attached pics. I found a seller on eBay offering a set, and the 3DModelspecialties and Cults3D website where you can buy the files to print. I don't know if any resin caster offers something like them, but I don't know Mopars all that well. Steve A.

Wilshire Shaker decals, and SLIXX???
Leo64 replied to Hondamatic's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
In a video that Steve did on Youtube he mentions that BadHabit Motorsports use to do the Wilshire Shaker decals, but it looks like they are no longer doing decals that I can tell. I looked on eBay and 1 seller was offering a decal sheet that says it was from Yesteryears decals, but I don't think they are around anymore either. Like was suggested above, it would be nice if Slixx would come up with a sheet. Steve A. -
What Porsche kit is this?.......
Leo64 replied to Allan31's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You might be able to try using one of the Revell Competition Porsche kit to complete it. You can usually find the Revell kits a lot cheaper than the Fujimi kits. It might take some modifying to make it work, but would be cheaper. Steve A. -
I'm a Corvette model collector, and have always wanted to get one of these kits, but the prices have just been too high for me. But I happen to be on eBay looking, and found a kit in pretty good condition and at a really good price, so I grabbed it before it was gone. See the attached pics. The only thing the seller said was missing was the engine display case (no big deal to me), one side glass (figured I could modify a spare glass to fit) and the decals were bad (did plan on using them anyways). The body just needs to be dipped to remove some green paint. From the pics and his description, the rest of the kit is there (oh except the instructions, but I downloaded those). I saw that yours and Steve Milberry's kits don't have the engine, if you're interest when I get my kit I can check with a friend to see if he can cast it and how much it would be. You showed the pic you found online about the engine, and I found an interesting story about that, and why the Corvair engine ended up in the real car and the kit. You can read about it here (it's about halfway down the page): https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/1967-chevy-astro-i I look forward to seeing more progress on yours and Steve's builds. Steve A.

The "Illusion" by Rick Dore.......on the Bench 12/9/23
Leo64 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm glad I could help out with such a great build you did. It was fun learning a few things when doing the stuff for this model, and some of the other projects you have planned. Can't wait to see what you come up with in the future. Steve A. -
A few years back I bought an XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro filament printer that included a 3D scanner and laser engraving attachments with it. I have not had a chance to try either of the attachments, and now the XYZprinting company has ceased operations, so hopefully I won't need any help with it when I can actually get it set back up and running. Due to a few moves in the last few years, I had to put it in storage because of no space to set it up right now. There are a few different scanners on the market, plus I've seen a couple of DIY instructions on building your own, but when I looked into sometime back the limitation I found with them in regards to using them for modeling was that anything smaller than about 1/2" the scanner had difficulties. Plus with any of the scanners you aren't really going to be able to just scan a part and have a file ready to print. There is usually a lot of work involved with cleaning up the scan to come out with a good usable file. And with most things the old phrase "you get what you paid for" really applies to scanners, the less costly scanners are not going to give you the best detail compared to the more expensive ones Steve A.

Just for clarification, I'm pretty sure that Anycubic model you gave a link to is a 3D printer only, it isn't a 3D scanner. I have 2 Anycubic printers and their first gen wash & cure machine, and really like their stuff, but I don't believe Anycubic has a 3D scanner available at the moment. Steve A.
