  1. Curt has spent a lot of time and money perfecting his wire wheels, and they are really nicely done. I'm sure your model will look great when it is done. Steve A.
  2. Yes, Curt had it at the Spirit of Speed Show before he sends it off to the museum. I was at the show also and had a few models entered & had a table selling some kits and some decals I made up. Curt had the table next to me selling his Tru-Wire wheels and some kits. Steve A.
  3. John had the Red Porsche Killer at the Spirit of Speed Show on Sunday, and won an award in the Fast On Two Wheels category. Someone in a post I did in the Contest area gave a link to David Dale's pictures he took at the show, and one was John's bike. Steve A.
  4. The show was really fun, lots of great models to look at. I enjoyed the trip to the show, got to catch up with some friends and meet some new guys. Sold a few kits, a couple to a lady that was looking to get them for her son, so hopefully there is a future modeler there. Sold a few of the decals I brought, and may do a couple of future ones also. A couple of John Teresi's models that I helped out with decals won some awards, including Best In Show. Hopefully John will be posting pictures of the models on here soon. Overall I had a great time and Scott and the other guys put on a really nice show. Steve A.
  5. That turned out really nice. I did the "Hodad Making The Scene" one awhile back, I'll have to see if I can find it and post pics of it. Can't wait to see how the other ones you have turn out when you get them done. Steve A.
  6. Hey Dan, I hope to do well and sell some stuff. After this show I need to start planning for the next Desert Scale Classic Show. LOL Also, I lurked on this forum for quite awhile, but actually signed up some time ago, I just don't do a whole lot of posting, but I'm getting better. By the way, just an fyi, but the link at the bottom of your post doesn't take you to the new DSC website with the .org, it takes you to the old site. Steve A.
  7. Anyone else planning on going to the Spirit of Speed Show at the NHRA Museum on Nov 6th? I'm planning on being there and will have a table selling some kits and some decals I've done up. I hope there is a good turn out for the show. Steve A.
  8. I know John has been really busy lately with some model projects and working on his full size Chopper, and getting ready for the Spirit of Speed Show coming up on the 6th. Hopefully he will be able to post some updates soon. Steve A.
  9. Nice job on the build so far. I like how the dash came out. That color looks close to Ferrari Rosso Dino. ?
  10. Thanks, but like I mentioned before, Curt deserves most of the credit for how the model turned out, I just did some body work and the decals, he did all the hard part finishing it up with his building skills. Steve A.
  11. When I was doing research for some decals for Curt I found a few times that Curtis Turner ran race cars at some odd events for him, as he was mostly known for NASCAR and I think it was USAC when he got banned. He raced at Pikes Peak and the Pan-America race, and Curt did models of those cars, and I found this Mustang that he raced with Peter Lake at VIR in 1966. I also found some info that he raced Joie Chitwood's '67 Camaro at the 1967 Paul Revere 250 race at Daytona. I've found several pics of that car and will be doing the decals to build a model of it. He also raced one of the Corvette SR-2 race cars at Nassau, and I think Curt is planning a model of that car. Steve A.
  12. Thanks Charles, the decals were fun to figure them all out and design and print them. I've done quite a few for Curt for his Curtis Turner collection, and I'm planning another SCCA '67 Camaro that I found that he ran at Daytona. I've done a few recently for John Teresi also, and hopefully he will be posting pictures of his builds sometime soon here. Steve A.
  13. Thanks Jim, Curt deserves most of the credit for finishing the model up. I only did the body work, mainly scratch building the area that would show with the bumpers removed, and made up the decals. Curt does a great job at replica race cars. Steve A.
  14. Thanks, when I read it I guess my mind thought country. The Moyer Racing Team was from the Silver Springs, MD so the company may have been well known in the NE area only, so that may be why it is so hard to find a decent pic. At least I was finally able to find a somewhat decent pic of the car showing the decal the original poster was looking for. I found a group on Facebook that said it was for A/FX - B/FX & Fliptop Comets, and in the media section of pictures I found that pic that was actually post by Sam Auxier Jr himself. Steve A.
  15. Rob, I did a Google search and found the following info, oddly it was on a British Car Forum website: "AEI was a high performance shop that built, raced and maintained cars built both for street and strip. It was owned by Pete Hall and he had two mechanics that were top-notch. Pete had the contract to maintain the local police cars, so it was not unusual to be working next door and hear a dragster smoking the tires down our business street ( Aaron lane ) and everyone would stop work, come out and watch. Pete was very successful himself, and was responsible for most of the fast cars around the county." I keep trying various searches to see if I can find a better image of the decal, but so far I haven't been able to find anything. Seems odd that the guy was responsible for so many fast cars around the country at the time, but finding a good image or any info is so hard to do. Steve A.
  16. I've been helping my friend Curt Raitz with his builds of the race cars Curtis Turner raced that he has been doing for the museum back east, and while researching online for some decals for him I came across some different cars. Curt has been mostly focusing on Curtis' NASCAR cars and the other series he raced in when banned from NASCAR, I found a couple of cars I thought would be interesting to do. I previously posted a Ford Falcon he raced, and I decided to also do a 1966 Mustang he raced. I did the decals up for the car, and started the model, but because of several moves I had to do, I wasn't able to work on it, so I gave it to Curt so he could see about finishing it. He just sent me the pics of the finished model and said I could post them here. I started with the AMT '66 Mustang kit, but swapped out the chassis, suspension, and engine with a better detailed one from a different kit. I think it was a different AMT kit, but it has been awhile and I can't remember which one it was. If I remember, the Torque Thrust wheels came from a Revell John Greenwood Corvette kit and I bought Indycal tire decals. The paint was '66 Mustang Rangoon Red from Scalefinishes. As I mentioned, I designed and printed the decals for the project. Curt did a great job finishing up the model, and I hope they like it at the museum. Steve A.
  17. Bruce, Sent you this pic on the Spotlight board, but figured I would post it here also, in case anyone else was interested. Steve A.
  18. Looking at the post from Swede70 on his builds, Dave Van posted that he did the decals for the Coachworks model mentioned in the post. Dave is on the board, so maybe send him a message and see if he still has the decals. Steve A.
  19. There seems to be a problem if you try using www.sclefinishes.com, but I got to the website by doing a Google search and it came up with http://www.scalefinishes.com/Paint.html and you can also get to the home page by using: http://www.scalefinishes.com/welcome.html I think this was what I did last week and placed an order. Received my order in just a few days. Steve A.
  20. That turned out really well. It kinda reminds me of a Lambo Promod pic I came across while searching the internet. Steve A.
  21. I contacted my friend Dwayne on FB, and he said he does not recall anyone offering decals like you describe. I also asked him about Mark Brown like you asked and he said unfortunately Mark passed away like about 6 years ago. Sorry to have to give you that info. Anyways, I'll see what I can come up with for old Bonneville decals for you. Steve A.
  22. I have a friend that is one of the founders of the Straight Line Modeler group, I'll try contacting him to see if he might have an idea who it was selling the decal sheet. In my research online, I have come across some decal sheets with a bunch of equipment companies on them, but I don't know who made/or makes them as I don't see a name on them. Steve A.
  23. I sent you a message about this. As far as the old decal sheet you had, I've done a lot of research online looking for different vintage decals, and I've seen a few Vintage/Nostalgia drag and NASCAR contingency decal sheets, but don't remember ever seeing one that had a bunch of Bonneville decals. It is possible that someone back then did a limited run of the sheet and they are no longer in business. There has been a bunch of aftermarket suppliers of model stuff that are no longer around, and decal sheets are tough to have last a long time. Steve A.
  24. I've done a few decals for myself and some friends, and I'm trying to understand what you are meaning about "Bonneville Salt Flats/Speed Week" decals. Are you looking for decals of the different year races at Bonneville, or are you looking of speed equipment companies that racers used at Bonneville? I've found a website that has a bunch of different vintage decals, and I sometimes use it when looking for samples online of different images. They have a section called "Bonneville" but other than a couple of equipment companies, it is mostly race event decals: https://nostalgicracingdecals.com/shop/index.php?rt=product/category&path=52 Most of the nostalgia Drag Contingency decal sheets that are out there have most of the speed equipment companies that the racers at Bonneville used on their cars at the time. I'm not sure of any companies that were specific to only Bonneville racing, but I'm not sure about that. Steve A.
  25. I can't remember where I saw this tip, but I tried it out and it works pretty good. What I did was buy a set of not too expensive tweezers, you can find them at a bunch of different places, then I went to a local bicycle shop and they gave me a used bicycle inner tube. I used 5 minute epoxy and glued a small piece of inner tube to each of the tweezers tips and then trimmed them with a sharp x-acto or scalpel. It helps with gripping small parts. Steve A.
