Model Cars Opinion Poll
BIGTRUCK replied to Jairus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree with Harry on this one , you'll never please everyone..I like the magazine as it is but I'm done when I get to the die-cast in the back...I dont hate it , I own my share of it, but it will not entice me to buy more of it. The company I drive for has a sister company that hauls media from the presses to the post offices and another division that handles newstand copies , some big titles have been toying around with the idea of a subscriber only magazine , others an on-line magazine. I pick up my issues of the magazine on the road from hobby shops I buy from across the country to read while I'm away...if I had to subscribe I would , this is my favorite model mag and I never miss an issue..Gregg and Jairus and all contributing writers do a great job , bundled up with this forum its the best 1,2 punch in the business . -
Started out as a Lindberg ''T'' pickup , built as a hot rod and torn down to make a ''rat tow truck'' MPC 32 Chrysler wheels and in-line engine or the 385 cube MPC '28 Lincoln engine for power.. frame was extended for the in-line..frame was Z'd from the previous build so I had a quick start. dont know where this is going yet just changing things as I go...I thought of setting in another rear end for tandem axle look or a duel wheel single axle as I have enough tire/wheel combos from the Mpc kits...have some big bullet head lights to use but all the grille shells I have are huge... This is the in-line This is the 385c.u. with the boom... just simple mock up , I use thin plastic rod to pin things together

Job well done Virgil...you hung in there for the long haul changing things as you went along and your ''never say die attitude'' handled them all....again well done on a really cool build off the pages of Model Cars and appearing here in 3-D...
-
Your a pretty darn good father Steve.......nice job..
-
Quality and subject matter........ superior in quality to the cheaper kits , some have photo etch , higher detailed tires, prep work is a breeze, just to name a few things...Hasegawa and Fujimi are also upscale kits..

Looking For A Particular 60,s Mustang
BIGTRUCK replied to ajulia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You could'nt be more right on that annual..atleast a $100.00 or so..Danbury mint did one, but that can cost you also.....Motormax does a 1/24 diecast, but its a 64 1/2.......... -
Aaron , the bodies are promo style made of styrene, the interiors are resin....the glass is a coin toss. Johan has had issues for awhile now , depending on who you ask answers will vary...Okey keeps trying and hanging on , I heard some good things are happening at Johan , but again it depends who you told you....I would love to see some good things happen at Johan too, but it has to start with ownership......

Welcome Chris, you'll find every style of builder here and the best support group on the web...
-
It acctually looks like the body is not sitting in the ''Zd'' pocket, the front of the body is sitting on the high rails
-
When I did one last year I ''Zd'' the frame as low as I could, then modified the body to let it sit even lower....Virgil your build is very good..I really think the interior is super...when you think its low enough...go lower.. they take them looooowwww
-
Randy, thats not an easy kit, but you made it look easy...great job, I still have the Jota on the shelf , but not ready to start another project.......but seeing your Miura its tempting...

This year @ Toledo I picked up 3 of these from Okey...1955 Pontiac 2 door, 1956 DeSoto 4 door , 1956 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door...the 4th a 1959 Dodge 2 door I bought last year...there is another one a 1955 Pontiac convert but that one got away... 1st...1959 Dodge..$17 plus $12 for a resin interior thats a little rough, red tail lights , slight chassis detail, plus all the chrome and vacuum windows, steering wheel is very rough on mine..It also has the Torsion-Aire Ride parts.. the Dodge is my favorite one. 2nd is the 1955 Pontiac 2 door with plastic glass, it come with green but Okey will swap it out for clear. It comes in white , black or red. $17 and $12 for the resin interior, I also seen this offering as a convert but I was a little late to get one ...molded in rear lights , chrome front and rear bumpers , grille and head lights...no chassis detail. 3rd is the 1956 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door molded in powder blue..$15 plus $12 for the resin interior, vacuumed clear windows, red glass tail lights, chrome front and rear bumpers and grille, no chassis detail.. 4th is the 1956 DeSoto 4 door molded in green..interiors are available , but Okey was out at this time.. $16 plus $12 for the resin interior $14 if you do not buy it when you purchase the kit..again vacuumed clear windows, molded in tail lights and the chrome, no chassis detail... the Dodge is getting hard to get, E-bay is fetching some high prices...donor kits are still easy to find for higher detail builds on all of these 55 Chevy , 58 Plymouth etc.. Okey had some 59 Ramblers and the Plymouth police cars, a few Olds Cutlass kits ,decals and tires.. Right now I'd be happy with the 55 Pontiac convert...maybe he'll be at NNL East....
