  1. After the last Model show/swap a couple weeks ago, I told my son on the way home "I'm not buying any more kits until Modelpalooza( one of the better model swap shows held every October in Kissimmee, FL) not looking forward to boxing up 600+ kits for the move to the coast." Stopped by Ollie's this morning and that went out the window.
  2. Stopped by the local Ollie's on my way to the grocery store this morning. Not quite the selection as other's have posted, but I snagged 2 of the Galaxie's and a Model T. These were in two different locations in the store.
  3. I will have to check the couple Ollie's around me. Florida is hit or miss when it comes to kits. Last time neither the Lakeland or the Merritt Island stores had kits.
  4. I second this. I've built a couple of the snap kits and they are quite nice. Plentiful too, I got mine at model shows for $5 each.
  5. Very nice work! Reminds me of all those Gene Tracy jokes about Carolina Freight drivers, most of whom would never have kept their truck as clean as yours!
  6. I was fortunate that my Dad was into building as was my grandfather who lived next door. My grandfather was by all definition of the term a Master Modeler. The first car kit that I remember buying with my own money was the old Pyro/Lindberg 1/32 1934 Ford. I was 6 or 7. The first kit I got for a gift around that same age was the old Entex Model A Tudor meant to be a joint project between me & my dad to match his 1:1 Tudor Sedan. I'd love to find another one of these kits in this boxing! The third pic is of me & the old man in his Model A with a Model A model in my hand during a Christmas parade.
  7. Took a load of stuff over to my other place on the coast early this morning. After the offload, I stopped at the Waffle House for breakfast. While waiting for groceries, I checked my email- I have a buyer for the rest of my C1 & C2 Corvette parts. That was a major hassle solved as I'm not moving 4 speeds, fiberglass parts, etc. The manager at the Waffle House comp'ed my meal because "you're in here all the time". Just one of those rare days where everything goes smoothly!
  8. A few pics from today. I didn't get a chance to look over the contest entries as they had it roped off for judging. One of the better shows in Florida, lots of good deals!
  9. Got these at the Pamscon show today, filled in a few gaps for the car side of things and a few more vintage Airfix kits for my aircraft collection.
  10. I have knee issues, one of which is arthritis that is progressing faster than I care to admit. You've gotten some good advice in this thread. Part of the reason I'm moving to the coast is to be able to go for a swim whenever I can. The saltwater in the ocean has tremendous properties that are desirable to the human body. Granted not everyone can do this, but it's worth posting.
  11. Here's a couple photos from last year's show. Quite a few car/truck kit vendors....
  12. I went to this show last year and scored some great deals. If you're in central FL, it's worth the visit. I have no connection to the event other than as a buyer. If you attend let me know, always up to meet folks from the forum!
  13. For ones that aren't in cabinets, I use a bulb type blower used on camera equipment. It works great for other things like computer keyboards, etc. You can get them fairly reasonable off Amazon.
  14. As a photographer who does it for income, there is no reason to blur out the names. In public there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. It's no different than me posting a business card on those little bulletin boards you see in restaurants. You shouldn't have any problems!
  15. My favorite BBQ place here locally is getting ready to close for the summer so I went all out and got the sampler platter. Walked outta there stuffed!
  16. I'm a big fan of Berlin School/Krautrock and this has been getting heavy rotation lately.
  17. My wallet is safe again this month. I'm hoping they dig more stuff out of the archives that hasn't been reissued 10 times in the past 20 years!
  18. The one ton Ford is a friend of mine's and hasn't moved from this spot since 1997. Note the cactus growing out of the cowl vent! The red '62 Galaxie was a pleasant surprise. I owned an identical car back in the late '90s- 390/4spd except mine was an XL and this is a base model. I tried several times to buy this car to no avail, even waving a handful of $100 bills didn't work! Oh well there will be another one....
  19. That's a nice looking '56! I always wanted an early Bird until I built one for a customer. One of the most uncomfortable cars I've ever driven. C1 Corvettes are a tight fit too, but there's ways around it with a C1, with a 55-57 Bird you don't have much recourse if you're 6ft 230 lbs like I am.
  20. My build time is limited to mostly weekends and the odd day off here & there. I do get in a slump and since I build multiple genres(cars/trucks, Aircraft & Space and the odd naval vessel or two) I switch to a different build Ie- from a car build to aircraft. Usually have several projects going at the same time so it's easy to transition from one to the other. I'm fortunate that all 3 of my almost grown kids build as well and us hitting up a model show/swap and pizza afterwards is always good to keep the creative juices flowing.
  21. Chrsyler was doing that in the '30s and I think some GM designs did as well.
  22. I've been meaning to get down that way and visit this museum. Your pics only reinforce that! Looks like a varied collection. If it's open, the House of Refuge by Stuart beach is a neat place to visit.
  23. I used to work for the company that made those offset T-arms in the back. I probably built 500 of those and 1500 or so rear bearing supports! Good folks to deal with.
  24. Nice looking bikes! I've been toying with the idea of getting an older Heritage for something to knock around on, but traffic here in central FL has gotten so bad.
