Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
Steve H replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I’m just looking forward to seeing the smoke from the exhaust stacks when you fire it up.😁 -
Hi folks, got some better photos today. I will aim for having this “under glass” in the next couple of days. Thanks to everyone who followed along, added their stories, or shared links to their favourite builds of Plowboy’s. Roger left us way too soon, and his presence is missed here on the forum by many. I know I’m repeating myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing from all of you, and it is heartwarming to know how many of you that Roger influenced. I loved his build style, and definitely miss him. RIP Plowboy, we miss you pal. Cheers, Steve

Really cool build Scott. Always enjoy seeing unusual subjects being built. Very nicely done sir. -
Luke!! Thanks for posting the link to this one, I hadn’t seen it. You sure know how to lay down a wickedly smooooooooth paint job mate. Thought I should give this a bump.

Holy schnickey those are small! Nice work Greg. That is some seriously small finicky bits…
-
Keep the “things” coming Rooster! Looking good. Man those wheels look sharp…

I managed to get my tribute build finished today. I still need to take some photos, but here’s a few for now.
-
Thanks Carl. I not so sure he would have been impressed, but I do think he would really like it. I appreciate your kind words Greg, thanks for following along. Very nice words Francis, thank you. I hope to one day build at the level Roger did, got a ways to go yet. He and I did share similar taste, albeit diverse. Thanks Spike! Hi John, I really appreciate all your comments on this build. Heck, it’s a “speed shop” shop truck, it better look fast!! 😜 Thanks Brian. I might add some cargo later too….🤔

Hi folks, got this build “almost” completed now. I have added a rubber mat to protect the box from damage when hauling parts to and from the speed shop. Found some Kentucky license plates, the bumpers and grill are now attached, and exhaust is done. Still to do: paint the tailgate chains, and door locks, add a nav antenna, probably a few touch ups, and I MIGHT add a few more details to the chassis. I will add a couple photos once I get those final little details done, but she’s pretty much done. This has been a very enjoyable build for me, I hope it has brought back some memories of Plowboy’s contributions to this board. Thanks to all of you that have been following along and taking the time to comment, and share your thoughts, I’ve truly enjoyed hearing from you. There a few of you following quietly in the background, and I very much appreciate that too. If anyone wants to add more links, or photos of Roger’s (Plowboy) creations, please feel free to do so. Cheers, Steve

BEAUMONT STATION WAGON: this time a 1966
Steve H replied to TheBEAUMONTGURU's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Awesome! Nice to see another Beaumont from the guru. Excellent solution to fitting the grill on the body, well played. -
Yes sir! She’s a beauty. I’d like to take credit, but it’s just a fantastic looking engine. Thanks for the kind words. Thanks Brian. On the home stretch now, hoping to finish it up this weekend. I appreciate you following along.

Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
Steve H replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Absolutely fabulous work Brian. I need to have a look for some of those wave springs, they really look the part for looms. Your fabrication of the various parts is very tidy, first class work sir. -
Great looking build James. And those wheels DO look fantastic, also like the mock up with the wire wheels, looks like you found a good home for them.
-
Thanks Zenon, there is a full build thread in the truck section if you are interested.
-
Thanks Anton! I’m going to keep my eyes open at swap meets to see if I can score another one of these just for the engine. Thank you Francis. The colours play nice I think… glad you approve sir. Hi John, I was surprised at how much the engine filled up under the hood. Also very pleased as it gives the truck some serious attitude. I appreciate your comments.

So, I have been holding off on posting this link. I actually thought maybe someone would beat me to it. This was one of Roger’s last completed builds, and I absolutely love this car. I had fully intended to start building a 64 Nova in a similar style back in early 2023, but got sidetracked by those pesky bench squirrels. I will still do the Nova, but probably about a year away, I have at least2 more builds ahead of it. I have been waiting till near the end of this thread to post this as it does somewhat tie-in to my next project which will be a pro street 67 Beaumont. For anyone newer here, or if you haven’t seen Plowboy’s work, I would encourage you to click on the links that have been posted throughout this thread, and check out his amazing work. I can’t recall EXACTLY all the work Roger did just to correct the body on the below build, but I know the rear window was completely redone. If I recall correctly, he actually had a “mini WIP” just on the body mods. Enjoy….

Hi all, Very rewarding build session today! Got the body mounted to the chassis for the last time. The engine compartment is pretty much done, probably a few touch ups here and there to do. As I had mentioned earlier, didn’t get too carried away with engine details, just a few hoses, and lines. Added a wiper motor, brake master cylinder, windshield washer fluid jug, fuel lines, a 3d printed battery with scratch built battery terminals (female), and battery cables, and the coolant pipe was modified to suit. I must say, I think this is one of the best looking engines I have built. Not the most detailed, but man, it looks good. I’m not saying that to toot my own horn, it’s just a great looking motor. Still need to scratch build an exhaust system, might add a few other chassis details, attach bumpers, and grill. Some detail painting and then it’s about done…

Spectacular scratch building Greg! Nicest scale rad cap I’ve ever seen by a lot. Drilling the hole lengthwise through the lens…..😳 verrrrrrrrry nice. I think I have one of those rad caps in my stash somewhere, I had no idea that it was replicating a real piece. Thanks for sharing the story, photos, and your beautiful craftsmanship.

Hi Carl, seatbelt material is ribbon that I ordered online. It is just a bit on the narrow side, but I think it looks good. The buckles were scratch built from sheet styrene. I have seen some really nice 3d printed buckle sets, and plan on ordering some of those soon. You are never a bother my friend, always happy to answer any questions.
