The Official EBay Discussion Thread
Beans replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My favorite lately is hiding the word "box only" at the end of the long description. It is usually obvious by the price but the general misleading nature of the listing irks me. -
That makes sense because the more I look the more I find different examples. The way I figure it (which counts for nothing really) is if it recognizable as the model of car it is then it's good to go for Restomod. Something like this, probably not. whatever guidelines get hashed out I'll go with.

Great articles. The key take aways for me are, "the intent to restore it so it looks identical — or very nearly so — to the way it originally looked. That is, from the outside, it would be difficult for someone to determine that most restomod projects aren’t a fully-restored vehicle." and. "Restomod involves restoring a classic car so that its aesthetics match the original, but its engine, transmission, and other parts are high-performance upgrades."

Interior update. Bench seat wasn't going to work for me and what is the deal with the total lack of door panel detail? Back to the design and 3D printer and some new door panels were created. Also some cutting and fitting and the bench seat is no longer a bench seat. That is electrical tape holding everything together for now.

That's the truth. I for one struggle with getting a decent paint job and can't take a decent picture to save my butt. I look at the cannonball as a chance to do things I don't normally do on my builds. I know I am pushing my limits in skill level and never really think about taking home the prize. I just have fun with it.

I look at it this way, Restomod is more restoration. Modern running gear and engines but the overall esthetic should remain true to the original. Pro touring is turning a classic into a race ready car with wide body kits, large spoilers, and the like. I consider the Camaro I didn't be pro touring based on the extensive body alterations.
-
I can do restomod..even have an idea I think will work well. Hard part will be not crossing over into pro touring.
-
First thing done was to look at the parts I would need to modify the kit. I ended up designing and 3D printing the tires and wheels, a GMC specific steering wheel, tailgate and grill and a center console for the interior. I also printed out the weapons box but I'll get to that later. I am pretty sure I still have the STL files for most of these so if you want them, let me know and I will make them available for you.

Looks great! I can still hear the song...that name again is Mr. Plow... -
I do the tape thing as well but use electrical tape.

I'm in. I have 2 or 3 Ford builds I have been thinking about for a while. Probably about time I commit to the experimental LID mustang I have been putting off.

Awesome job!! Congratulations -
The theme is usually defined with enough detail that more rules aren't necessary. Take a look back at some of the starting posts for the other cannonball group builds and you can get a feel for the guidelines.
-
The details may need to be hashed out some but either way, I'm all for it. Funny thing is, growing up in the 80s, my friends and I all had late 60s and 70s cars. The rich kids all had the newer cars and Toyota pickups.

To my thinking, this pretty much sums it up. Radwood itself is pretty much about cars from 1980-1999. Stock or otherwise, with the owners dressing the part at events. For our purposes I would think it would mean the base of the build had to be a car built between those dates but could have modernized components. The detail and paint scheme should replicate a style from those decades somewhat. This is my non expert opinion anyway.

OK, I am starting to really like the Radwood idea! The Magnum PI theme keeps bouncing around in my head.

2023 Cannonball Run "Run-What-You-Brung" Official Finished Builds
Beans replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
This year was a glue bomb redemption build. Redemption for the horrible mess someone made of this poor model as well as for me finishing last year but never posting and missing the finish. I started with the busted up mess of a Pontiac firebird formula. No engine, no glass, and three wheels. A Ferrari California provided the engine, trans axle and rear suspension. The rear seats were removed and rear frame modified to also include an auxiliary fuel tank . The dual electric fans from the Ferrari also made their way under the hood, which was modified for fitment. The passenger seat was removed to make room for a arm to hold a tablet, police scanner, and IR camera screen. Also some snacks and monster energy drinks. A three point harness was added to the driver's seat. Other mods include, custom spoiler, widened fenders, all new homemade glass with rear carbon fiber panels, custom mirrors, driving lights, and the brakes wheels and tires from the Ferrari....oh and the vanity plate. Thanks for looking. This was overall a challenging but fun build. Not the cleanest or nicest I have ever done but it was a lot of fun. -

Some cool ideas floating around. One I have been wanting is Wagons/Hatchbacks.
