  1. white ish is right. Even in the clasic starting line photo you can see how dirty and greasy the tires were even before the race. The other photo has thee advertising writing painted on and the tires have seen better days.
  2. The color of the Wasp has long been a bone of contention among us modelers. Back in the 60s Rod & Custom paper wasp painted it dark orange, the ISM has it painted bright yellow which, I believe, was the Marmon co. standard in the 19 teens. Ray Harroun raced the Wasp throughout the previous year 1910 before it was entered in the 1911 500. My theory is that the color change was due to oil staining from the Yellow to a rusty orange color by the time it was run in the 1911 Indy 500. The photos show the car today and you can see this staining on the oil and fuel tanks and around all the bolts and recesses and even see finger swipes on the underside of the fuel tank even though the ISM probably is more meticulous in their cleaning that when it was originally raced. Still doesn't answer the question of color at the start of the 1911 race. A personal choice anyway, but I do hope you'll do the white tires.
  3. The Ultimate Spinach. Probably listened to it only once in a hazy dazy day back in 69.
  4. Thanks for looking at EG's post Ismael. You are not alone in your love of the Wasp.
  5. Thank you for looking Ismael. as you can see you are not alone in your appreciation of this wonderful car. I wish that EG had included the Marmon Wasp name in his title he would have gotten a much greater following and we could have inspired more modelers to take up the cause. Over the years i have gathered a sizable reference library of info on the Wasp but I soon discovered that EG's passion far out paced mine. Though I started working on the chassis in CAD my love of engines soon had me developing the heart of the beast. I really need to get back to that project and see if I can get it to a printable stage before the end of this decade. 🙂 Definitely want to follow your build.
  6. I am sorry I missed out on the limited production from Indycals. looks like you are doing a great job on this iconic race car. For more reference details check our EG's 3D CAD layouts at forum under "One of the most famous race cars nobody seems to know anything about" He was doing some fantastic work, unfortunately I think his medical issues caught up with him, I think Indycals missed the mark on the water pump however well the rest of the car came out... Just being picky here. Looking forward to seeing your progress... Model On!
  7. Hi Eg, Hope you are doing well and hope to see more of your fantastic details on this iconic Indy Car.
  8. In my opinion the XKE v1 was one of most beautiful cars ever designed. You've certainly don it justice, and red is so iconic.
  9. Thiis is one of my favorite NOVI build pics. I just love the characters working on the engine.
  10. So, what was the cost of having the parts custom plated as apposed to $35 a can for Revell spray?
  11. I expect that all those wonderfully detailed kits coming out of the Ukraine will soon be unavailable.
  12. Indy NHRA Nationals maybe.
  13. I don't think they speak Italian at the post office... Good thing it was only an old rubber tire ashtray, but still...
  14. You might also check out the current listing for the BLUEBIRD 1933 record breaker FPPM from Fernando Pinto Portugal he also sells wheel and tire sets on the side.
  15. Ouch! Had no idea the prices were that extreme. Yes, the V12 in back was my first concept with injectors, second really after 5 Strmberg 97s, all scratch built around a Monogram Ford Flathead block.
  16. My fantasy take on a Lincoln flat head with Ardun heads and a 6/71 Potvin setup. 1/8 scale. May someday power a Bonneville streamliner. No not really chrome but a nice polished aluminum look, and durable. It looks like the Revell chrome is the best bet.
  17. another option... On the big intake tubes I used Tamiya Bright Silver spray and over coated that with the Tamiya "Semi-gloss Silver Anodized Aluminum". The seemi gloss is like a clear coat and durable to the touch.
  18. Show nuff, just horsing around.
  19. Automobiles aren't nearly as Auto as Musk would have you believe.
  20. These are on ebbay, 1/24 scale for the Golden Arrow and Bluebird.
  21. James, if you are going for the early 30s look there are also sets of tires and wheels that were used on both the Golden Arrow and Bluebird.
  22. Mind over matter doesn't seem to get my models done!
  23. Not exactly my #1 (that is already stated) but I am sure this one is the fave of many others... John Milner's 32 from American Graffiti.
  24. Another option for LSR tires would be Indy racing wheels and tire combos available in cast resin, available at certain on line auction site.
