Tamiya....lets get it right.
Jon Cole replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always pronounced it "Ta-my-ah". Now it seems that may be incorrect. Yet, I have been pronouncing it that way for many years, and I don't think I can change. Old habits, ya know. No disrespect meant... and I promise to change should Mr. Tamiya stop by to visit me. -
Dodge tracked vehicle

These next two photos... iirc I found them just a few months ago, probably on Jalopnik: Labeled as a Tucker Sno Cat for sale somewhere in NJ: -

I don't know if this link has been posted or not, it has more info on the Tucker Sno Cat http://www.gwim2.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/743cstat.htm -
Many contests & shows, each with its own criteria. It seems like there is no one absolute. I wonder if our hobby had some type of organization, with one set of standards, would anyone follow them? Would that even be possible? Is the 'Point System' the answer? This is a great topic, and shows that, if nothing else, how difficult it is to nail down one set of standards.

when to glue parts
Jon Cole replied to modelbuilder22's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As for clear parts, some ideas: Instead of a white glue, such as the typical Elmers brand, find something labeled as Tacky Glue, or Craft Glue. Once you try that, you could move on to 2-part epoxy. The beauty of epoxy is, should any excess squeeze out, wait about 5+ minutes for it to firm up, but not cure. Then just gently slice away with a #11 blade, or use a wooden toothpick to peel away. It can be removed usually without any damage to the clear window. -
Six of one, half dozen of the other. I guess... model.

It is one of my favorite parts of the magazine! Please keep up all the creativity!

Anthony, where... did you get that idea from? Perhaps you should actually look in my Fotki albums. I have no restrictions, I photograph whatever catches my eye. I take pics of whatever I want. Also, the Nascar comment... I used to build Nascar, as well as photograph them. Funny how people "know" me, and while my memory isn't what it used to be, I have no recollection of meeting or communicating with you.

I added the photo of the AMT T600 because it was stated (or implied... whatever) that it was ignored. The photo proves otherwise. I never said anything about quality. Interesting reading all the comments on the Lonestar. Judging by what some are writing, one would think their quality of life depends on it.

Why Did Figures in Model Kits Disappear?
Jon Cole replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now when you find these kits, you can almost be certain that when you open the box, the figures are gone. That is so frustrating. Seated or standing, I think they are a plus. Just don't make us pass on a first issue of a kit, because the figure(s) won't be available to the second+ issue... seems to me that has been the situation in recent history. -

Not finding it in 1/24 scale at that link, just 1/32

I don't have the Lonestar, but I wouldn't mind having a go with it. As for the so-called aweful instructions, how about someone show a photo or three? A picture is worth a thousand words, goes the old saying. I am currently building the Hudson from Moebius, so I would like to compare instruction styles.

Pace spray booths on sale?
Jon Cole replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have the small Pace booth... uses same size filters. In fact, I plan on buying more this weekend @ Home Depot. -
At one time, Perry's Resin cast those wheels. I was able to use them on my 2D.

Sweet! Thanks Chuck.

Can someone please help me with part #'s 108 & 109? The wiper motors? They have a strange tapered tab that looks like they won't fit into the corresponding mounting holes on the firewall bulkhead. Do they fit, and did you do any mods to make it fit? Thanks.

Harbor Freight Score
Jon Cole replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Way back in the dark ages, I was painting a 1:1 car in a room w/ no ventilation, and my respirator was probably loose. I nearly passed out toward the end of the third coat of DuPont Centari Enamel. I literally crawled outside on all fours, spitting up the color of the day from my lungs. Fortunately, I had no adverse reactions. Also, I had no adverse reactions. Paint is not the only enemy to your health in this hobby. Every time you sand, you are breathing in tiny particles. The resin dust is even worse, from what I have been told. A dust mask is a must in these situations. When using a moto tool on resin parts, I mocked up this square-mouthed funnel to my shop vac. I did add a piece of window screen inside the funnel to catch anything I may drop. -
How often do you go on this Forum...?
Jon Cole replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am on here multiple times a day. I love this place. In the past few days I have been at the workbench again, still pluggin' away on the Hudson. This board helps motivate the desire. With any luck, I just might have a model to show this year! -
Beautiful! Like the unusual color also!

Wife has owned hers for at least 3 years now. Trouble free. We have the non-turbo, so we get to run regular fuel. We are now over 100,000 miles, time to consider the timing belt replace. My -personal- gripe, the Japanese have not a clue on how to adapt tilt steering to suit Americans. I have a heck of a time getting in the drivers seat... requires inserting foot up behind the brake pedal as far as I can. Wish they would design the column to tilt up about 2" further.

Real sharp Merc! Is that the AMT, or the Revell Merc? I don't recognize that rear window.

That color really works on a Hudson!
