  1. Decal? I can't even see the dashboard! 1/87 scale...brave man
  2. Work on prepping the body before paint is turning out to be pretty easy. Some cleanup and very little fab work. I did carve out the molded in front grille, added a radius to the lower opening and made a new grille from 0.5 mm Evergreen. The only other change is fixing the abrupt cutout of the rear fender flare. Minor stuff to fix. And finally I tackled the hood louvers. That part of the job really scared me without good cause. AM's engineering of the PE parts is as good as it gets. So far the front opening louvers went together easily with only minimal under hoof finessing to get a nice flush fit.
  3. Mark, I can't wait to see the finished model. No doubt it will turn out great. Thank you for sharing your build process. I always learn something new from following your work.
  4. Thank you Maxx, this is great insight into the history of the car. I will try to match this color in my mixing experiments.
  5. Thanks Mark, I have seen these 2 pics as well as the video showing the car being unloaded from the ship. Looks like a bright blue with a touch of gray. I think the restored car may be too much on the bright side, possibly from a basecoat/clearcoat paint process. The original paint would have been a lacquer and not with so much travel. I have an idea of where I want to go for my color mix but just inquiring in case someone has better knowledge of the period color.
  6. Starting work on the body. I plan minimal changes other than the usual prep. I will fab a front grille to better represent the specific car I am modeling and a minor change to the rear wheel opening. As I work on these small changes I am doing my color development. My understanding is that chassis 004 at 1964 Sebring was still painted Mecom blue. I also read somewhere that Mecom blue was basically Cadillac Pelham blue. The 2 ref pics below are of the restored GS 004 and the Cadillac Pelham blue. I will aim for a blue in that range but would appreciate input from anyone who would have a more definite knowledge of the original color of this car.
  7. Absolutely gorgeous build and very real looking. I followed your build process and you obviously surmounted many challenges. Congrats on your photo setup, it definitely optimizes the presentation of this great subject.
  8. My modest contribution...just to keep this thread moving. 1971 winner, OOB Fujimi kit.
  9. Yeah JC...we need our fix!
  10. The interior looks super nice. What did you use for the cage padding?
  11. Awesome build. This is like attending advanced scale modeling school!
  12. Thank you Rich. I have another GS kit in my stash and want to acquire a roadster resin transit for it so I'll definitely follow your lead on that one.
  13. Chassis is done and painted. Only have to loop oil lines to filter and cooler after chassis & body marriage. Only recent mod was the side pipes to reflect the configuration of the specific car I am modeling and making the exhaust outlet look more "muscular" Final adjustments body to chassis with 0.5 mm shim at the front.
  14. Pretty amazing stuff Bill. Lots of work ahead but you'll create your own scale models. Super cool. Can a 3D printer handle a complete body or will you break it down to body panels?
  15. Working on a similar one myself. Your's will be a tough act to follow. Congratulations Jung-min, this is a superb build!
  16. She's taking shape. Beautiful!
  17. I just did it with a dullcote followed with Tamiya weathering master rust color and finally a sand colored pigment to fill the threads. Done 3 years ago and still looks good.
  18. Wow Dave, this is just wonderful. Us mere mortals will assemble existing kits and make some improvements along the way, but you sir are a true creator of scale models.
  19. Now that's unique. Don't forget to add the propeller!
  20. Simply gorgeous detailing!
  21. Jim, your work on this kit is exquisite. True that the large scale allows for more detailing but I would rather say it demands it and you nailed it. Your weathering techniques add a lot of realism too. Bravo!
  22. I thought the first picture was a 1/1 reference! Through the roof authentic, all of it! Inspirational
  23. Love the 60's Cadillacs. Your work on this oldie is mighty impressive. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Looks like you are working through a lot of the Wood Brothers decal sheet! I like the W nose Cyclone the best and your interpretation of it is superb.
