  1. Hold on Andrew, I want to make sure I get it right. You made the most fabulous wire wheels I have ever seen, then you spun beautiful wheel covers front and back...to cover the amazing wire wheels? Your dedication to accuracy is unmatched. Makes me feel lazy about my modeling techniques. ?
  2. Jason, beautiful work and fast! If I may suggest, having built two, do a lot of testing on suspension installation. Some mods needed to get a proper NASCAR ride height. The rear is pretty easy by tweaking spring shapes but the front is trickier. Suggest you consider separating the lower arm (and attached torsion bar) from the K frame so you can move it up to lower the stance.
  3. I also use Vallejo, 70.615 Ghost Grey. I never see any grit in it. Your's definitely looks thicker than mine. I would get nowhere near that coverage with 20% reduction.
  4. With the right mods and adds this kit can convert to a really good racer. I love the approach you are taking so far. I remember your wonderful 63 Petty Plymouth and look forward to following what you choose to do on this one.
  5. Beautiful combo. I love the orange color as you did it, so vibrant!
  6. That body looks mighty good. There's something about the 64 Ford, perhaps my all time favorite NASCAR. Close your eyes... can you see it? Red Line 7000!
  7. This is fabulous. You are very effectively leveraging advancements in 3D printing to create your own models.
  8. Glad to be of assistance. The lighting was not very good for pics. The slight purple hue you see on the test hood is not really there. FYI I also thin my primer, with 10-15% water, then 2-3 thin coats, then after 24 hours cure time 6000-8000-12000 polish before the color coat.
  9. Mark, hope you are ok if I post directly here a suggestion for formulating your color. I made pics of a test hood I did today. 2 drops of 70.899 Dark Prussian Blue 1 drop of 70.930 Dark Blue 3 drops of 70.521 Metal Medium 9 drops of 70.524 Thinner Medium 3 thin coats over a gray primer.
  10. I'll be glad to help. Let me work on ideas today and I'll send you results, either post here or send as a pm at your preference. Thinking medium-dark blue with some pearl in it?
  11. John, the engine looks fabulous. I can't wait to see it all dressed up. It will be glorious!
  12. Mark, looks you are set to go thanks to Bill's advice. In the end you are following what you see on your ref pictures. I have a pic of Junior's car taken at Darlington 2 weeks prior to Charlotte and the exhaust is fully clear of the rocker panel. Go figure.
  13. This looks great Mark. Question, didn't NASCAR ban Ford from running the exhaust running through the frame after Daytona in 64? I remember pictures of Fireball's car wit the patched up lower body. Perhaps Ned's car was handled differently?
  14. Thank you Larry, Bob and John. I am more than happy with the results, particularly the paint all done with a brush (a 5 year journey to get there) I received a lot of input from fellow builders on the WIP which helped me solve a few issues. Keep posting WIP updates of your Matra John, a pure joy to follow!
  15. Congratulations Gary. I'm sure this build required a lot of modifications and head scratching and you pulled it off beautifully!
  16. Beautiful build and an absolutely stunning color combo. Bravo!
  17. Thanks Mark for showing the tools. I wish I had known about belted sanding sticks before. Oh well, never too late to learn and definitely getting one asap. Great job on prepping that body. You're moving pretty fast on this one.
  18. Beautifully done Steve. You revived a little piece of history that could have easily been forgotten. Well done!
  19. Wow, nicely done. I always struggle removing trim. You used the dremel with a sanding drum?
  20. I was wondering which driver you would choose for your 64 Ford project. This will be a great project!
  21. If you plan to go white I would not recommend pure white or arctic white. Back in the lacquer days GM never did this because the reflow oven would not handle a pure white. These types of white colors only started in the early eighties as the GM plants were gradually converting to BC/CC technology. GM's cleanest white of the era would be off-white or ivory by today's standards.
  22. Really nice. Beautiful finishes with just a touch of dust and weathering. Super!
  23. Beautiful with superb detailing. Your builds are always so lifelike. Well done sir!
  24. This is simply outstanding in detailing and particularly in the various paint finishes that look so realistic. Can you provide info about your sources for the various type fasteners? Thanks.
  25. From the graveyard and back to life. Wonderfully done Helmut. These old kits and a bit of TLC can turn out into very nice models. I should be on the lookout for some of these Heller kits. They look nice and the topics are great. Thank you for sharing this.
