This Corvette was my first AM kit and I sort of learned by trial and error. The kit has great parts but integration is somewhat lacking. I took my time and worked through the issues. I know the McLaren would be a bigger challenge but I'd love to take it on

Congratulations Terry. A great rendition of a beautiful and brutaly fast race car. Is this a conversion kit or complete with chassis, engine, etc?

Built from the Accurate Miniature kit with a a few changes to reflect the specific car I am particularly pleased with the paint finishes. Everything is brush painted. Vallejo primers and color coats. I did my own mix for the body color to look as much as possible to GM Silver Blue color. Tamiya acrylic clear, again brush painted then polished. A brushed Future seal coat applied over decals. Modifications limited to wheel opening profiles and a scratch built front grille. A few detailing adds such as PE seat belts and underwood plumbing & wiring. I also substituted the way too big kit tires with the ones from a Fujimi GT40 kit. Extensive work to get the proper ride height and hood fitment over the engine as described it the w.i.p. of this project. Final items done on this build. Glass, exterior trim etc. I tried something different on the clear headlamp covers: Painting a small edge and the mating surface prior to bonding to hide the glue joint. I tried to twist the wipers to improve the orientation on the glass with limited success. I might eventually replace them with PE parts. So she is finally done. I will get the photo setup installed and post pictures in the Under Glass Other Racing section later today.

58 mm. I measured them and they are to scale. Makes for bad ass engine for sure!

Another Southern 500 winner successfully coming off your bench. You should post a pic of all them together. Bud Moore had some of the best looking rides from the sixties and the transformation you made from a basic AMT 67 road car to a full blown 66 race car is highly successfull. Your brush painting is really good. It took me so much more time to achieve this level. Wondering, how did the polishing compound help vs only sanding cloths? (going through experiments myself) Beautiful car with tons of scratch building challenges. My hat's off sir!

Wow, beautifully done. Particularly impressed with all that perfect chrome.

Decals done. Simple design yet the center stripe was a bit tricky to do. I still have a dozen items on my list to complete this build. Most of them easy but 2 requiring some thinking. The clear headlamp covers and the wipers will need some work to look good.

Andrew, shaking my head in disbelief looking at your magnificent work. I will never be capable of doing stuff like that but it is inspirational nevertheless. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful to watch.

Thanks Bill. I moved to the city in a condo, no work shop so airbrush or rattle can is not an option for me. Brush painting has required some technique development but I'm happy with the results I am now getting.

Thank you for sharing this. I reviewed your build process with great interest. The kit has it's quirks and a few dimensional misses but I still think it's great.

Thank god there is that little roll cage to protect the driver if things go sideways. But if a turbine blows off...good luck! Beautiful build of a unique vehicle. Well done!

Thanks Mark. Funny thing, when I looked at the posted picture I thought I had to go back and do more polishing on the front end but I can't see it with my own eyes. Possibly the same phenomenon as the camera adding 10 pounds to the actress...lol. I'm not touching it for fear of doing more bad than good. Moving on to decal day. Yippee!

Nice going David. The almost but not quite black color you chose for the body is really nice. Most of us would have gone black but your way is better I think.

The body has been polished with 6000-8000-12000 cloths and then Tamiya fine and finish compounds. Ready for decals

Interior work very straightforward. I used the gauge decals from the VRM sheet Added seat belts with lever style Detail Master PE. Very detailed instructions but I took a few shortcuts considering this is not open cockpit. The only other add is a fire extinguisher.
