Ok, calling it done. Came out ok I guess. The decals for the rear panel area broke with me. I could have painted it silver but since there is no detail in there I decided it would look best just to leave it as body color. Thanks for the comments. More photos under glass. It's getting too cold to spend much time at the bench in my shed so I'll be taking a couple weeks off, but been thinking about building a military aircraft kit, so may give that a try. I've been having problems with the last 3 or 4 auto kits I've built, maybe time for a change.

Thanks Mike. Thanks Carl.

Revell 1969 Chevelle SS396 in Fathom Green W/Green Vinyl Top.

Very nice. Great work. -
Beautiful 57. Nice work.

Had to open up the hood for the tall intake on the engine. Still need to finish up the body and interior and do a little touch up, but I like the way it's looking.

Thanks Jim. Thanks Bob. Thank you Chaz.

Got a rolling chassis. To make the Chevelle chassis work under the 57 I had to remove some of the fender wells. Got paint on the body using Testor's Purple Metallic enamel.

Thanks Bob.

Looking good Bob. The wheels look great.

Krylon or Rust-Oleum for primer
bluestringer replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tried this and it went on too thick and runny. The rustoleum 2x I was using beat it hands down. -

Very nice. Great job.

I know what you mean Mike. This was a ill fitting kit to begin with, add in my aging eyes and shaky hands just adds to the problem. I'll finish it sooner or later, may not be as good as it could be though.

More problems. Back in the box for right now, I'll try to get back on it later.

That is a beauty Mike. Great job. My first car was a 66 also but it was the Impala SS with the 325hp 396 and Muncie 4 speed. Had a lot of fun with that car, cruising the back roads of South Georgia and I would take it to the local drag strip for Saturday night grudge matches.

The top on mine is smooth, but I do have that same thing around the back window. I'm not a body man, so it will have to be as is. But I think I'm going to paint it a different color, just not sure what yet.

Thanks Carl. But I had a mishap with the paint that has slowed me down. I was painting the trim with a Molotow pen and somehow smeared some on the body. I tried lightly getting it off with alcohol on a swab, but it smeared the paint. I didn't want to take the time to strip it and repaint so I just sanded it off and sprayed some more red over it. It doesn't look too bad and you have to look close to notice anything, so I'm going with it. The glass really gave me fit also. It's a one piece for the front and back and did not fit well at all. I cut it in half and got the back to fit good, but the front windshield still doesn't fit right. Trying to correct it so I can finish this up, I'm ready to get started on that 57 Chevy Pro Street I'm working on.

Thanks Carl.

Thanks Chaz. Don't know if I can get that stance to stay. Thanks Bob. Just noticed the photo is not accurate. The white balance on the camera made it look blue. It's actually a teal green, but it still looks pretty good as is. Here's a corrected photo.

Going to try some kit bashing. I'm messing kits up anyway may as well do two at a time. Going to try and use the 67 Chevelle chassis on the 57 Chevy Bel Air HT. Seems to fit fairly well after some hacking on it, still need to do some more fitting. The 57 interior seems to work well with it also. I'll probably use the Chevelle engine if it works out. The 57 colored plastic looks pretty good, may just shoot some clear on it, not sure yet. I've got some other colors in mind. Need to finish up the 70 Chevelle first.

Thanks Greg. They are the stock wheels for the Chevelle that came in the kit. I painted the centers black and the photos are too dark so the detail is lost. This is what they should look like.

Deteriorating Chrome
bluestringer replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
LOL.........could be, but it only affected the one kit, but I have now cured it by removing the bad parts, stripping the chrome and painting them with bright coat metallic. -

Yea, I'm blaming the kit because I have no problem with other finished builds on the same shelf. -
