  1. Very nice build sir.
  2. That makes 100% sense. I did place the car in the dehydrator after each wet coat for about an hour... in hindsight that probably made zero difference. I have used their clear once before but thinned with Tamiya X-20A. As I recall it was also very slow drying.
  3. Thanks Bainford. I usually remove tape within a half hour after painting. It did take a long time to mask around the door handles, wipers, rear emblem and trim. I'd say the tape was easily on for 10 to 12 hours. I can tell you the damage it caused happened well within that time as I had to remove a piece that had only been in place for a couple hours! I did not put the masked car in the dehydrator... I made that mistake once in the past.
  4. Wow that's sharp!
  5. One of best builds of that kit that I've seen. Great colour and choice of wheels/ride height.?
  6. Very much like what you did with this build. The finish looks top notch! ??
  7. Good evening, Completed and photographed AMT's '63 split window Corvette. I understand it's a bit of a cliché kit, however it was the first go at it for me. :^) This version was moulded in white, had plenty of flash, but went together relatively well. The main issue was the glass - it's one solid piece and I found I had to compromise a little with front-rear fit. With this build my intention was to focus on a decent candy paint job, forego the engine and build it as a curb side. Paint is Tamiya X-27 Clear Red over Tamiya LP-62 Titanium Gold then clear coated with Tamiya X-22. I replaced the kit wheels with Pegasus Daggar's Chrome. What I learned 1. Tamiya tape may not play well with X-22 Clear. I know X-22 has the reputation of taking a long time to dry, but I thought 10 days, including many hours in a dehydrator would have been enough. Not the case as you can see in the photo below. At first I thought it was glue residue left behind but the tape actually crazed/reacted with the paint. There were so many layers of X-27 that I wasn't too concerned with burning through so I sanded it down with a 3000 grit sanding sponge and recoated with X-22. 2. Applying too many layers of paint made it difficult, impossible to dry brush the raised script and use panel liner to fill in the recesses in the 2 hood grills. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
  8. Exceptional work. ?
  9. Very clean build.?
  10. That looks great. You made excellent choices with your mods. ?
  11. Yes it was the 1K Clear. I have not tried their 2K system - I understand this dries rock hard and is easier to polish? I do like Mr. Color GX 100. For acrylic paint, Tamiya X-22 is really nice as well, however you have to leave it for like a month to fully harden.? The body does look a little plain without the stripes. I didn’t care for the Italian stripes as they seem a little out of place to my eye. The red ones would definitely have added interest and I planned on including them at the start of the build. After my disappointment with the fit issues I wasn’t prepared to battle all those tiny red stripes on the tires and the edges of the splitter fins. I knew the way things were going I’d get halfway through and tear or wreck some of them.
  12. 100% agree. I feel I’m still in the early stages of this hobby and trying to narrow down my favourite tools, paints, supplies and perhaps more importantly, techniques.
  13. So very well done! Gorgeous paint and great engine detail.
  14. New background is awesome. Was there a car in the photo? ? Been eyeing the Esprit as well. Yours turned out nice. Any issues with chassis/body fit (starting to dislike Fujimi for this).
  15. That turned out and congrats on bringing home the hardware. ?
  16. Can’t tell they were hand painted. ? Looks like you made boots for the plugs… did you use little blobs of glue?
  17. Beautiful car. That colour really pops in the sunlight. Spark plug wires look to be the perfect scale. :^)
  18. Nicely done! Love that first photo. Great interior as well.
  19. Nicely done, beautiful paint and finish.?
  20. A lot of effort put into your build and it shows.?
  21. Super-clean build. Awesome paint. Beautifully detailed.?
  22. Superb??
  23. Sounds like a real bear of a kit, but you did a great job correcting and fitting it all together.?
  24. Thanks fellas. It’s a very forgiving way to photograph models.
