Revell Germany Landrover series III? false alarm
Casey replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, messed that up, didn't I? I'll post it in the correct topic. -
Think the production Edsel was bad????
Casey replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
More good Edsel stuff here: http://internetdebris.blogspot.com/2012/03/case-of-murderous-vice-president.html Shades of '62 Dodge Dart (!!) in the below drawing: -
Today I loosely assembled the front subframe and unibody floorpan pieces from an AMT '71 Dodge Charger R/T kit, then placed both inside the MPC '77 Dodge Monaco body shell (with the Monaco's interior tub in place, too) like so: Looks like a great fit, eh? Well, it is. A very, very good fit, in fact, and that's the problem. Not sure why I never realized this previously, but the wheelbase on the MPC '77 Monaco Sedan is incorrect, probably because this kit was derived directly from the annual Dodge late B-body kits/promos, which were all coupes, not sedans. You see where this is going, right? The '77 Dodge Monaco sedan's wheelbase measures 117.4", while for a '77 Monaco coupe it measures 114.9", for a difference of 2.5" between the two. Now, admittedly, that equates to only .100" on a 1/25 scale model, but, to some, that matters. The '71 Dodge Charger's wheelbase measures 115", so it's no surprise the Charger kit's 'chassis' wheelbase lines up nearly perfectly with the (incorrect) MPC '77 Monaco sedan's wheel openings. I'm sure this minor wheelbase discrepancy has been mentioned previously, and probably well known among fans or this particular kit, but did nobody care? Or is it a case of things being fudged here and there to make it all look close enough to fool the average Joe? Maybe that .100" is below the threshold for noticing? TL;DR: The AMT '71 Charger R/T's 'chassis' is a near perfect fit under the '77 Monaco sedan's body.

That was fairly common, so there was bound to be some design overlap among the Big Three (and AMC, Packard/Studebaker, etc.) back then. I love the '63 Tempest design, so Edsel was on the right (wide) track. -

I think the Off-Topic Lounge should stay.....
Casey replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Do you want to read about it in this section? Why people come to a forum dedicated to automotive models to discuss other things which aren't model related is an open question, as there are plenty of other places on the internet and IRL to do just that, but people are gonna be people. The O.T. section was created because two particular members kept posting obnoxious hockey fight and other videos in Gen. Disc., having nothing to do with model vehicles. There were other posts, too, but those particular posts were the spark for creating the O.T. section. Now, why there is 1:1 auto related discussion allowed in Gen Disc on a model building forum is another question for another day, and something Harry would never budge an inch over when discussing it. -

Agreed. Great sculpting going on back there, especially how the spear/bulge meshes with the wrap-under style bumper.. What do those letters across the tail panel spell out? -

stait front axle assembly, aftermarket?

Looks like the bulk of the parts were crammed into the bag to allow everything to fit inside the narrower box: Looks like both 13" and 14" tires were included, though: And those decals, too...wow:

Looks like Greg hasn't been on the forum since July, but here's one source: https://www.hiroboy.com/112_16_Watanabe_8_Spoke_Wheels_set_of_4--product--11836.html Figured I would mention these Riverview Hobbies 6-slot wheels, too: https://www.riverviewhobbies.com/Products

So, if we roll with the assumption that all but five molds for Tom Daniel designed kits went to Atlantis, that leaves which five still in the possession of Revell U.S.A.? The two currently in the Revell catalog, as James mentioned, listed first, and the other three listed below? 1) Rommel's Rod 2) Baja Bandito 3) Circus Wagon (last reissued in 2009, made in China) 4) Tijuana Taxi (last issued in 2009, made in China) 5) Beer Wagon (last reissued in 2016, made in China) Partial/incomplete list of kits molded in the U.S. when last reissued, so should now be in the possession of Atlantis: Ice-T Cherry Bomb
-
No, it doesn't sound like any molds remain in Illinois. Unfortunately, the statement from TD's page isn't very clearly worded. I agree with Dave in that it's probably safe to assume Tom Daniel meant to say Atlantis acquired all of the Tom Daniel-designed kit molds, except for the five which Blitz kept, but there's too much ambiguity in the statement to take that as fact.

361 V8 in Dodge L-700 kit: Same as car 361?
Casey replied to ChrisBcritter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I should have been more specific in suggesting this engine might be better starting point for an early B-series V8, at least compare to the L-700's V8. I think it was the '58 Fury review topic which covered the shortcomings regarding this particular engine, so I wouldn't suggest Chris use it straight out of the kit. I assumed he would be doing some kitbashing to get closer to the actual 361 V8 he needs, and I thought the trans from the '58 Fury could be used, too, but it looks like that trans ended production in '61. -

Chris, you may want to loo into the engine found in the AMT "Christine" '58 Plymouth Belvedere, to, as it appear to be an early B-series V8: -
361 V8 in Dodge L-700 kit: Same as car 361?
Casey replied to ChrisBcritter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I edited the image, as I wasn't sure that engine block/heads/valve covers were original to the car, which is what I believe Chris is aiming for on his model. -

361 V8 in Dodge L-700 kit: Same as car 361?
Casey replied to ChrisBcritter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The B-series Chrysler big block has a slightly lower deck height than the later RB-series V8s, but the difference is hard to notice in scale, and that's if all of the block dimensions are accurate. The Wikipedia page does a good job of explaining the differences: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_B_engine#361 So yes, the IMC/Lindberg Dodge L-700's basic 361 V8 is the same externally as used in cars, but the details will be slightly different. 427 Ford SOHC engine source
Casey replied to Paul Payne's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Here's a close-up look at the SOHC valve covers from the AMT '65 Mustang AWB kit: Here's a good shot of the real valve cover: If a scale valve cover doesn't have those clearance 'bumps' at the bottom edge of the valve cover, I would immediately rule it out. Here's the 1/24 scale T'rantula's left valve cover, which I would agree this is the best version in scale: Has anybody tried the T'rantula's 1/24 scale valve cover(s) and other parts on one of the better 1/25 scale Ford FE-series engines (Revell '64 Tbolt, AMT '60 Ford Starliner, etc.)?
