Nice start, Pavel. and lots of nice detail in the cast parts, too. -
1/25 Jeep Gladiator

Thanks Jeff. I'm sure I will take you up on that offer at some point. This kit is a bit crude and simplified in areas, and looking at the engine compartment shows it better than I can say it: Yeah, not too impressive, and not very accurate, either, so I removed it all and will make something more accurate: The MPC Jeep Commando kit's inner fenders might work here, but I'm not sure yet. The firewall is going to take some work, but I don't plan to go too crazy on detailing it. At some point I have to permanently attach the rear wall to the cab, so I'm trying to leave that as one of the last steps before priming the cab. The interior will need to be re-done so it can be assembled inside the finished/closed cab, so I will probably use only pieces of the floor section, if anything. I already have a few bench seats from various truck kits on hand, so I should be able to scrape together all the parts I need. I also hope to add the snowplow from the MPC Universal Jeep kit, so that may save me from having to scratchbuild the front bumper. -
Welcome to the forum, James. I haven't ever seen the Lindberg '67 Olds 442 with anything but a red car on the box. As far as I can tell, all the issues of the kit through the years have a red 442 on the box, save for the "Trunk Popper" kit, which I believe was just a body shell with a toy-like motion chassis mounted underneath:

Why did Round2 include two engines? I see two different intake setups (dual and tri-carbs(?)), headers and exhaust manifolds, but only one fan? I would say "maybe it fell off the runners", but the same corner on the second engine's runners is occupied by completely different parts.
-
Keep in mind they'd need to set up and run the injection molding machine three separate times to create the parts for such a "combo" kit, and even IF Round2 was crazy enough to try it, consider the retail price on what is essentially two-and-a-half kits all stuffed into the same box. A better idea would be to issue one of the trailers (prolly the same as the Blueprinter issue) as a parts pack, stand alone deal, then issue both vehicles separately, and drop a not so subtle hint on the bottom of the box such as "Combine this kit with PP17 (Four Axle Trailer) and AMT 1012 ('63 Chevy AWB) for even more fun!!!" Less risk, more profit, and far easier to fit into those spots on the shelves at your LHS/mass hobby retailer.

Here's a look at the engine parts from that kit: The AMT AMC Pacer Wagon's inline six-cylinder engine, which is decent, but not great IMHO:

I think this one would be best avoided, unless one likes the everything-molded-in look: I guess we can add the Buick V8 from the 1/25 Revell '29 Ford Model A Roadster kit, too, but I think there were some exhaust post spacing inaccuracies involved?
-
AMT at it's high point! That is rather poor, and I agree there is no clear mounting point, but maybe the engine just drops as far into the floorpan piece until the flair of the engine block stops it from going any further? Does the bellhousing(!?) end pass through the half-round hole in the floor pan or just butt up to it?

I thought about the Westcraft boat combined with the AMT '65 El Camino, considering the boat was orginally included with AMT's '64 El Camino, and I don't recall Round2 reissuing the '65 El Camino...yet. Reading Tim's quote again: ..."we came up with yet another future old tooling/new tooling combo kit idea." That would seem to eliminate an old/old combination, and it really depends upon which accessory piece is being considered (or has already been chosen) for inclusion, but a motorcycle or go-kart could stand alone alongside any vehicle, needing nothing "extra" to support it.

Window opening reveal added: I also removed some material at the bottom edge for frame frame and driveshaft tunnel clearance: -

I was hoping you'd see this, Jeff. I wish I had a real one in the garage for reference. -
revell 4Q2016 Release Annoucement

Odd. The lettered tires are included in the reissued the Pro Street '67 Chevy Chevelle kit, which is a current item in Revell's catalog. -

Thanks. They do at times sell for more than I'm willing to spend, and the Pink Poison version is the only one which includes a non-tinted windshield, so that's why I specifically targeted this issue. I got this one for less than $30 on eBay, so I was happy. It's an interesting kit, and to be honest, if I hadn't been familiar with it, I would have been hugely disappointed upon opening the box. It "feels" like it was designed as a snap-together kit, and the suspension is very simplified (axles and leaf spring all one part at both ends), but to my eyes, the body is very very well done. The basic shape is very good, save for the slightly flat roof, and a lot of the details, like how the front edge of the fender flares meet the header/valence panel, etc. are very well done, too. It's a great starting point, but it's essentially a curbside model out of the box. -
revell 4Q2016 Release Annoucement

Yes, that time period was a real high point for Revell, and they certainly maximized their investment in this specific Pro Street tooling, creating three different bodies to air with the same basic chassis. Does the current Beretta reissue include the Firestone( I think) tires like previous releases? I don't think these tires ever had their sidewalls wiped clean. Those Brian Borden geometric block graphics, tho...so '80s! -
Thanks for the excellent preview, Tim. Glad to see Round2 fixed the sink mark issue, too. My guess on the future combo reissue is the '60 Chevy Fleetside paired with Triumph motorcycle from the '63 Chevy Apache kit.

1/25 Jeep Gladiator

I've been wanting to build a Jeep Gladiator pickup for a long time, so I bought Revell's most recent "Pink Poison" reissue of their '81 Jeep J-10 pickup and got started. I built this kit in the mid '80s and recalled most of its shortcoming and faults, but it's the only game in town for a bi-scale Jeep J-series truck. so off I go. First step, separate the one-piece(!) cab and bed along the vertical joint line between the two: Next, create a rear cab wall using styrene sheet and reference photos. The Full Size Jeep Forum has been a lifesaver for reference photos, so breaking the rear cab wall down into smaller pieces and different levels, I was able to come up with something close. Here's a good look at the earlier small window rear cab wall on a real truck: I did cheat a bit with the ribs/depressions, as the inside corners should have much smaller radii (essentially making each depression much more rectangular in shape), but I also knew very little of the lower two-thirds of the rear wall would be visible once everything was assembled, so it was a compromise I decided to accept in the name of progress. Anyway, here are the pic of my progress so far: Base piece, step one: Second piece layered on top, to add rib detail. The depressions with be filled slightly to soften/gradually taper the depressions: Greenhouse band/layer added: Same stage as above image, but you can see how the rear wall is just slightly inset from the cab's rear wall. This "step" will also get filled to soften the transition between the wall and cab in the greenhouse area: Tonight I added the raised section around the window glass, most of which will be removed when I create the window opening: -
I picked up (ba-dum-tish) the AMT '60 Chevy Street Machine kit yesterday and noticed it has different front spindles and shorter rear coil springs to lower the truck, as well as a true dual exhaust system to match the dual outlet exhaust manifold shown above. A different front bumper, grille, headlights, decals and wheels and tires round out the changes compared to the stock Custom Fleetline version.

The Mean Maverick and Super Digger were released once in 1970, and never seen since. Factor in the Great Monogram Purge of 1980, and, well, I suspect both are gone for good. Even if they do still exist, I would be shocked to see Revell choose to invest their money on either of these two. I think the Poison Pinto (and Sand Crab) would be excellent candidates for backdating, but the Pinto Street Machine was also reissued as part of the SSP a decade plus ago, so not sure how eager Revell would be to investing in it. Yes, there's one on eBay right now with a BIN price of $26.99. That said, there's no question both this kit and the Tijuana Taxi will be in the perpetual Tom Daniel kit reissue cycle. It might take a few more years to see it, but Revell didn't recreate both of these to not make money off of them.
-
It's the regular version, not the Pro Street version. Not sure if they box will look like this or not, but it sounds like this kit has sold well enough that another production run was in order: I was hoping they'd reissue it with both the stock and custom parts (yeah, it's ugly, but it contains a nice set of Euro-style headlight lenses with good detail), but the original kits are still fairly easy to come by for the same or less than what a new reissue would cost. In fact, I can't think of any Mueller-era kits which are difficult to find or expensive to acquire yet (at least here in the U.S.), but there are some far worse choices IMHO Round2 could've chosen to reissue,
-
Yes, we are literally witnessing round two now, with the '60 Starliner, '49 Ford Coupe, and '70 Super Bee all being reissued a second time by Round2. I hope that's a fluke, and not a sign of things to come.

Might have to buy one of these early next year:

Yes, that SOHC engine could fill a need for many people longing for an accurate scale version. Fingers crossed.
