Agreed, much like Revell did with the '32 Fords and Rat Roaster kits. You can make the AMT '67/8 kits work with the '69's chassis/floorpan, etc., but the AMT body (and I'm talking the new in the '80s Lesney era AMT '68 Camaro, not the original annual) is thicker than the Revell body and the corners of the '69's unibody need to be trimmed a bit to fit under the '68 body. IMHO, that's your best option, though I admittedly don't know how accurate and original AMT or MPC '68 Camaro body is.

Another Hemi Car: Come On..REALLY?
Casey replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For many people, building a model allows those who would never be able to own the real vehicle to own it in scale, so "cost" is no option, and many will go for a maxed-out, top of the line vehicle, be it a Hemi 'Cuda, a Ford quad cab King Ranch F-250 or a (insert vehicle of your choice here). Yes, some will want the bench seat, column shifter, 4-cylinder '68 Chevy II 4-door sedan with poverty caps, but they are in the minority-- the vast minority. If low-line, stripper vehicles of what the majority of kit buyers wanted, we'd have no Hemi Cudas, no 427-equipped '69 Camaros, no Baldwin-Motion Vettes, etc...but we have them, and many others which are similarly optioned. For the minority who want what most others don't, they can turn to aftermarket suppliers and kitbashing to fulfill their scale fantasies. -

Didn't you mention a while ago you need to upgrade your Mac's OS? I'm on an older MacBook Pro running an outdated OS (though not sure which OS), and can no longer update Flash Player, but have no issues here on the forum. Which web browser are you using? I think every person save for one who has had posting problems here and posted in this topic about it was using Internet Explorer. -
Perry's Dodge Ram 4x4 conversion kit
Casey replied to Sportabout's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
You are correct, Joe. Here's the front suspension removed from a '97 Ram 2500: -
I wonder if Round2'd even consider releasing a kit with a tow vehicle, trailer, and race car all in the same box? They have released a few double kits, but maybe we need to start e-mailing them some more suggestions.
-
Actually, when it comes to Round2, Cliff, it's quite the opposite. Revell still has Firestone and M&H sidewall detail, so the licensing issue only seems to apply to Goodyear tires: Which manufacturer's name is on the Lambo's sidewalls? The name must be on the hidden area in Jon's pic, but I think they should be Pirelli P Zeros, correct? Is the only place you can view the engine with the bonnet closed through the three hexagonal-shaped holes? I live how they molded the tiny amber marker light lenses(?) separately, too.

Frog and Airfix are brands which are far more popular in Europe, so changing the brand name on the box from AMT, MPC, etc. to something more recognizable isn't that unusual. I suspect the two kits you mentioned are '60s era. Is this the FROG kit in question?: These are probably the original AMT kits?:

Another Hemi Car: Come On..REALLY?

The Revell '68 & '69 Charger kits have separate transmissions for both the 440 and 426 Hemi. The '68 Dart's 383 has the trans molded in halves with the engine block, while the Hemi has a separate A-833 4-speed trans. There should be pics and more info for each kit in the Model Cars: Ket Reviews section. -
OK, we're getting way off track again. Let's get back to Revell new line of kits, please.

Perfect use for those "Dean's Marina" decals in the Revell '65 Chevy Stepside/Hemi Hydro kit. I seemed to have resolved the issue I was having with the wheel lips slipping inside the tires when I discovered the bead area on one side of each tire is slightly smaller than the other, to match the slightly smaller O.D. of the outer wheel lip (compared to the inner/rear lip). I still need to locate some mini backer rod to stuff the tires with and "inflate" them a bit for a better fit on the wheels. Overall I am loving this kit, though.

With apologies to Shalomar, this is the second time I've purchased two AMT '60 Chevy Fleetside kits to make a longbed, and this time I put the razor saw to styrene and did some actual cutting. The way the bed sides are molded with and attached to the bed floor and sidewalls makes the bed sides very easy to cut free, so that was step one. Step two involved getting the forward edges of all four bed side pieces flat and true to their mirror image piece, so they could be permanently bonded with liquid cement. Here's a pic of that step after completion: I then added twelve scale inches to the forward section of the bed, but tapered the bed walls too much on both sides, so I'll add a wedge of .040" styrene to fill those two gaps: After the bedsides were cured, I measured the correct length for the forward section, then cut off the excess. Again I trued, bonded, then trimmed the rear half of the bedsides, leaving them looking like this: The bedside crease needs to be evened and defined a bit more, but the profile is pretty consistent along the length of the bed, so a tip of the hat to AMT's designers for giving me a very nice starting point.

Looks like you got it to work, Joe, correct? I see six pics in the '65 Chevy topic you mentioned, and three in the S-15 post of yours, too. I don't know of a way to copy multiple image links from a PB account, then paste them all in the body of a message in one step. I have always copied and pasted each link, one per image. On the right side of your PB album you'll see "Links to share this album", then several different image link options. You can change which types of links are displayed, and I would suggest you change some of them. I don't think you will ever use the "Flash embed" nor "HTML embed" links, but you might want to keep the slideshow link. I suggest you add the "IMG code", which is what you will use (and it will be much easier to) copy and paste images from your PB album to here. To change your image link settings in your PB account, click on your user name at the top right corner ("kingiguana", I think yours is?), then select "User Settings", then look on the left side and you should see something like this: Links Show these share options for all of my albums. Email & IM Direct Link HTML code HTML thumb IMG code IMG thumb Easy Linking Mode Turn on easy linking mode You may never use any other types of links besides the IMG code link, but it's up to you which you want to use. I rarely use anything but the IMG code link, so even if you only select that link, I think you'll be OK for now. You can always add other links at any time. The "Easy Linking Mode" allows you to copy the link with one click of the mouse, so I'd recommend you select that, too. Let me know if that works for you. -
Dale, you may want to start with the Revell Cabriolet instead: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76805&hl=beetle Is your kit similar to this coupe?: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=35544&hl=beetle

Maybe the fact that these new kits are subjects which Revell doesn't (won't) offer in their "regular" SnapTite or glue kit lineup (like they did with the '63 Imp, PT Cruiser, New Beetle, etc.) will help, too. IIRC Revell currently offers the original Monogram 1/32 scale '69 Camaro, '70 Mustang, etc. SnapTite kits on blister packs, and they have a sub-twenty piece parts count, so it'll be interesting to see how those do or don't factor into the new tiered approach.

I think the original JO-HAN '64 Dodge Super Stock kit was the only other kit to include these manifolds, but don't quote me on that. Hopefully someone who bought the recently reissued AMT '49 Merc isn't using the optional engine and can help you out, Michael.

What kit has a good Ford Y-Block?
Casey replied to Terry Sumner's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Has the Y-block in the new-ish Revell '57 Ford Custom 300 kit(s) trumped the AMT kit's Y-block? -
Good, I guess. I have the right bedside fully polished, and the bed and left bedside pice are almost done, too. I was unhappy with my previous splicing/patching work on the right inner fender, so an AMT GMC Sonoma gave up its inner fender, and I spliced a section into the S-10's after some reshaping and slicing. I also filled the front framerails and will sand them flat/smooth, then add a thin strip of styrene to ensure the fit flush against the bottom edges of the inner fenders. Monogram's tiny tabs at the bottom of the inner fender, which slipped into the framerail gaps, wasn't a very secure way to join those two areas, so I will have to figure out something. Still not sure what I'll do with the suspension, but the upper A-arms in the kit are atrocious, and the 2WD crossmember with the lower A-arms molded in is not much better. I'm leaning toward AWD or 4WD at this point, but planning to stick with the 4.3L and T5 5-speed manual trans, even if that means fudging the transfer case-to-trans attachment a tad.

'59 Rambler wagon, '73 Olds Cutlass, and Chrysler Turbine Car? Don't want to put Steve on the spot again, though.
-
No offense to Ernie and Steve, but I didn't read Steve's post regarding Ernie's comments as 100% certainty: If the molds are overseas (assuming that means China), I wouldn't consider them 100% gone forever, just missing. Yes, odds are good they will never be used to molds kits again, but considering the strange history of the AMT '34 Ford pickup molds, I'm not going to rule out the ex-JO-HAN kits yet.

Try selecting the "Compatibility View" option (I think it's in the IE header bar?) and see if that helps or fixes the problem, Joe. -
You posted in the correct place, Michael...thank you. The AMT '49 Mercury Coupe has an optional 426 Ramcharger engine, which includes the exhaust manifolds I think you are looking for. Here is a pic:

So Testors buys up previously molded (essentially very recent N.O.S. parts) which SeVille actually molded at the Moran St. location(?), then distributes them in new boxes-- as you said earlier, very similar to what Revell did with the AM Grand Sport Vette kits. The HSO series kits' chrome sprues look the same as those in previous JO-HAN kits, so they only appear to have changed in the Testors non-HSO packaging kits. If SeVille molded all the kits Testors ever released, why the need for the change in the "tag" on the runners? I'm not doubting you Carl, I'm just wondering aloud why that change was made, and if it was made to the non-chrome parts, too? It'd be great of someone had one of the non-HSO Testors kits and would be willing to post some pics.
